A Contractual Marriage with the Best Leading Actor Chapter 109

An Elder Brother is Like a Father (3)

“Aren’t we here for the tea ceremony*?” Xi Chengyun asked.

*The Chinese tea ceremony is conducted on the day of the wedding, where the bride and groom serve tea to their parents, in-laws, and other family members. This symbolizes the union of two families and is a meaningful part of the day, typically taking place inside the couple’s respective family homes.

His question was sudden, and one could tell from the way he talked that he wasn’t close to them. It was clear that he wasn’t trying to sound polite either.

The guests suddenly felt something off about the situation.

Jiang Fangcheng’s facial muscles twitched as he said, “We’re now paying respect to our father.”

Xi Chengyun delightedly continued, “Oh, just as the saying goes, ‘an elder brother is like a father’. Now now, don’t forget to pay your respects to your sister-in-law too. ‘An elder brother’s wife is like a mother’, aren’t I right?”

Jiang Fangcheng was furious with his veins at the verge of popping, whereas Father Jiang, who was standing at the back, also looked pale.

The woman off stage clenched her fist tightly and her newly manicured nails were about to snap.

Han Si glanced around, smiled, and picked up a cup of tea. “Then, I shall pay my respects to my sister-in-law. Everyone should know from the reality shows that our older brother listens to everything sister-in-law says… Then, certainly, our sister-in-law should be well respected in our household.”

Bai Qi, who was standing next to Xi Chengyun, didn’t feel awkward, and neither did he blush. He accepted the cup of tea calmly.

Han Si didn’t forget to elbow Jiang Fangcheng to remind him. “Hurry on now, pay your respects to our sister-in-law. Are you so happy that you’ve forgotten how to act normally?”

“...”

‘I will f*cking kill you.’

Jiang Fangcheng tightened his grip on the tea cup, and it seemed like he was about to break the tea cup.

He stared at Bai Qi fixedly, and in the end, he handed the tea cup over. However, Xi Chengyun was the one who accepted it.

He held the tea cup with one hand and after Bai Qi finished the tea from Han Si, he brought the cup near Bai Qi’s lips.

Bai Qi obediently lowered his head, pressed his lips on the rim, and took a sip.

“That’s enough,” Xi Chengyun said and firmly placed the cup back into Jiang Fangcheng’s palm.

By the time they’d finished paying their respects, Father Jiang was already all shades of pale, and was so angry that he was about to have a seizure.

The photographers took a few more photos.

Once all that was done, Xi Chengyun held Bai Qi’s hand and walked off the stage.

Father Jiang didn’t intend to force them to stay either.

He was worried that if they were to stay for a moment longer, he’d really be sent to the hospital.

Father Jiang wore a strained smile on his face as he sat on the stage with Han Si’s family. Accepting a cup of tea, he tried his best to not look in the direction of Xi Chengyun and that bloody vixen.

“We can go home now,” Xi Chengyun said.

The reporters had already taken their pictures, so Bai Qi guessed that their goal had been achieved. He nodded in response and followed him out of the hall.

When Xi Chengyun walked past a photographer, he suddenly stopped.

“Hi.”

The photographer hurriedly turned around to look at him. “Mr. Xi.”

“Can I have a copy of the pictures please,” Xi Chengyun said.

“Yes, sure, I’ll send them to you after I’ve gotten them printed.”

He accepted Xi Chengun's name card and solemnly placed it into his pocket.

Xi Chengyun nodded and exited the banquet hall with Bai Qi. They slowly walked towards the gate of the manor.

The arc which was made from fresh flowers was still there.

At this moment, the sky had turned dark, and the place was completely silent.

Xi Chengyun held Bai Qi’s hand.

When they walked past the arc, it seemed oddly like something couples do during their marriage ceremonies. Bai Qi blinked and gently freed his hand from Xi Chengyun’s grasp.

Shang Guang, who was in the driver’s seat, winded down the window and waved at them.

“Xi-ge, over here.’

Once they both had entered the car, Shang Guang turned on the GPS and made a U-turn.

Bai Qi looked at the GPS and asked, “Will we be passing the South Third Ring region later?”

Shang Guang wasn’t too sure of the way either and said, “I think so.”

“Then, I think you can drop me off at Suiyang Road in the South Third Ring region.”

Shang Guang immediately asked, “Where are you going?”

“I’m going home.” “We don’t have anything else on later, right?”

“Yup…” Shang Guang said.

The car suddenly entered a moment of pin drop silence, and no one spoke.

Bai Qi was pretty tired today. He yawned and lazily leaned back, sinking into his seat.

After an unknown period of time, Shang Guang asked in a low voice, “Is this it?”

Bai Qi sprang up from his seat and looked out the window. “... Yes it is!”

Xi Chengyun opened the car door and got out of the car.

Bai Qi scooted out of the car too. However, before he moved to leave, Xi Chengyun had closed the door behind him.

‘Huh?’

Bai Qi turned back to look at him.

Xi Chengyun stood clad in a fine suit under the illumination of the street lamp. He chuckled and said, “Didn’t you say that you want to bring me home during the New Year’s? Why don’t I just follow you today?”

Shang Guang waited in the car for a bit.

‘Why don’t I hear the sound of the door opening?’

Shang Guang turned around. “Xi-ge?”

Then, he looked out the window. “Xi-ge?”

Xi-ge was gone! Such a huge human being had disappeared before his eyes.

Come on Xi-ge, you have a program to attend tomorrow!!!
