With the sun going down Masamune and friends gathered in the garden with Sierra’s parents, preparing for a BBQ.

“It’s been a while since we last had a BBQ, Hilda and Sierra were still little the last time we had one.”

Indulging in his memories Brown and the servants carried firewood into the garden.

“There is a lot of meat so everyone please eat.”

“Everyone is happy but will there be enough? The maids alone make 15 people.”

“I think it should be alright, this is the portion given to us from the request.”

From the material bag Toa held Masamune took out the meat they received from the request and placed it on the table.

“And this is what we bought on top of that.”

Next Masamune pulled even more meat out from his interdimensional storage and put it on the table as well.

“The Yowastein meat by itself would be a bit too greasy and since we have the Walstein meat as well why don’t we grill both.”

“That’s why you left earlier huh.”

Toa now understood why Masamune left by himself earlier. Using [God Speed] he had returned to a meat shop in town buying up all the meat.

“Everyone! Today we can eat to our hearts content!”

Brown, excited by the mountain of meat, ran off into his house for his wife and the servants.

By the time the finished the preparations Sierra and Hilda could be seen under the light from a lamp post on the garden path. Toa and nem ran up to them, and although he couldn’t hear their conversation Masamune gave a relieved smile.

Everyone began to eat the meat in earnest now, although there wasn’t just meat. The chef could be thanked for bringing out a variety of vegetables and soup as well. Personally as the Yowastein meat was greasy I was drinking the alcohol Roberts gave me while snacking on the Walstein.

I had pulled a barrel of the old gert out of my storage. It seems that Mr. Brown, Mr. Maria, and the chef knew about this wine. As soon as they saw the old man on the side of the bottle, their mouths were left hanging open. The chef was so happy he cried, I was pleased that everyone enjoyed the barbecue.

However there was something that worried me, the expression on Sierra’s face ever since she came home. She sat away from everyone on the stairs to the balcony with a glass of wine.

“Masamune, is Sierra ok?”

“Master, Is Sierra alright? ”

“Uugh alright I get it.”

Apparently they were thinking the same thing I was.

“Sierra, may I sit next to you?”

“Masamune-dono, of course go ahead. ”

I sat next to her. Toa and Nem were glancing over nervously. Wouldn’t it be better if the girls talked to each other?

“Sorry I made you worry. ”

“No, not at all. Did something happen? ”

Even though I said that Sierra fell quiet, having no experience in matters like this my only option was to wait for her to start talking again.

“Masamune-dono, do you know what a hero summoning is?”

Well that’s surprising.

“Yes.”

I don’t really know much about it, but it is how I got here.

“Do you also know why its forbidden magic?”

Aries said something that sounded like it could be the reason although this was the first time I heard it was forbidden.

“Because it requires human lives for the ritual to work?”

I basically just repeated Aries’ words.

“…….Yeah, I just learned today that it required sacrifices.”

Sacrifices? …..first I’ve heard of this as well. {T/N: sacrificing human lives for spells and to like the gods. Sierra refers to the sacrifice to a God. Not like a personal sacrifice for the team or something. More tied down to a stone table type of thing. Fun stuff.}

“I didn’t know, to think they even had to torture th-”

“WAIT A MINUTE!? Torture!? ”

That’s when it became apparent that I knew next to nothing about the summoning.

Is that so….”

The things Sierra told me were beyond anything I could imagine.

“I didn’t want to know. Its something I’d normally shut my eyes to but as a white knight its necessary. It’s my duty.”

It seems that for Sierra this was quite shocking.

“It scared me, magic is…”

At this rate she’s going to be traumatized, but I don’t know what to do about it. The two who are still glancing at me are unlikely to tell me, and Hilda hasn’t even looked in our direction. The only person I had to rely on for what to say, was myself.

“But, isn’t that just what magic is?” [T/N:Smooth.]

In every world there exists ways to hurt people, just like the swords and magic that exist in this world.

“Yeah….”

“Even though I don’t want to admit it.”

When I said that Sierra looked surprised.

“But doesn’t that suck? I wanted Magic to just be that, magical, forever. Something suitable to fantasies and to help people realize their dreams.”

For someone like me who knows of a world without magic this world is like a dream. Magical in and of itself.

“Me too!….. Me too! I want to believe that magic isn’t something created to hurt people! But….. its not like I haven’t used magic against someone before.”

“Well, isn’t it fine that way? You being able to think like that? ”

“I… don’t know.”

“There are good people and bad people. That’s not something thats strictly limited to magic.”

“………”

“But if it ever gets hard for you, I’ll be here to listen.”

“You’ve also got Toa, Nem, and even Hilda. We’ll all stay by your side and listen until the trouble passes.”

I’ve received many things since coming to a new world, but I feel I’ve also gotten something of great importance. And that’s, [Epic pause for effect from your favorite translator. ] an immunity to women. I never thought the day would come when I would be able to talk to women like this.

And it was while I was thinking all this, that Sierra hugged me.

“Huh? Sierra!?”

What do I do? I sat wondering if there was a way to get out of the current situation but eventually decided to just sit still. Although not moving i was aware of something soft pressed up against my body.

“Call me Sierra. ”

Suddenly Sierra something odd.

“Huh?”

“There’s no need to speak formally to me, it felt weird before as well so, let’s just stop.”

“But, Sierra…”

Her hug tightened.

“OK.”

[T/N: this chapter has annoyed me. He used to add the honorific San to the end of her name, and she dono to his. This is a conversation to just remove the honorific. It’s really not a big deal, people will drop san in like a couple hours at an izakaya. Or will automatically just not use it. Dono is like, not used anymore. Anyway yeah its a conversation saying we should act more like friends. It really doesn’t require a conversation to decide this. hence why I didn’t add san to anyone’s name, cuz its the equivalent of saying the name in English. ]

Nem came dashing towards me.

“Wai-,Nem!?”

Sierra moved away in time to see Nem careen into my chest.

“Sierra……what are you doing to master?”

Nem clings to me and looks sharply at Sierra.

“N-no, that..”

“Foul! That’s breaking the rules! You were sticking onto Master too much!”

“Sticking!?”

“You were hugging him! Nem saw you! Toa saw you too!”

Toa soon rushed over too but when she saw what was going on she seemed to relax.

“Nem I was just helping Sierra calm down, there was nothing weird about the hug.”

“Really?”

Once that was settled Sierra explained to them about the summoning ritual.

“Thats…”

As she listened, Toa’s face fell.

“Nem doesn’t know magic, but Nem knows not everyone is kind to Nem. That’s why Nem sticks close to master.”

It seems Nem already knew that there were people in the world that could hurt others with a calm face.
I patted her on the head as she sat in my lap.

“Why did we suddenly start talking about the summoning? ”

“It’ll probably be public knowledge soon but it seems that Greyberg actually performed one.”

“Yeah they did.”

It was already too late by the time I realized that I’d slipped up.

Toa and Sierra turned towards me instantly while Nem sat quietly on my lap.

” Masamune, what exactly do you mean by ‘yeah they did.’?”

Of course, it seemed I wasn’t exactly fluent at talking with others.

“I told you before that I met dragons heart didn’t I? When they left they said that Greyberg performed a summoning and that they were off to investigate. ”

“Sorry, Masamune when exactly did you have this conversation? ”

“Oh, yeah it would have been before we met huh, you remember back when you were suspicious of me? That time you stole my hunting wolf?”

“……Masamune.”

Sierra called my name softly as if blaming me for something.

“What?”

“Is that all that you’re hiding?”

Toa also seemed to be waiting for me to speak… at least Nem was still cute.

“………Well if they say there was one there was right?”

“What does that have to do with anything?”

“Well I felt like it had something to do with what I heard.”

I was unable to meet their eyes, as if there was some kind of silent pressure. It seemed like i could no longer hid it from them, Sierra wasn’t stupid and probably already figured it out.

” That’s, well you see……..basically……I’m a hero.”
