He picks up the herbs he sees and puts them in his bag.

A gasp escaped his lips. It’s a lot of work for so little money.

The new adventurer, Thermite, lifts the bag filled with a day’s worth of work and chuckles at how light it is.

Adventurers have a wide range of jobs, from guarding merchant troops and mercenaries to collecting medicinal herbs, which Thermite is currently doing. One of the most popular jobs is to exterminate monsters.

The sight of him slaying a deformed monster is like a modern-day heroic tale.

This kind of respect and awe attracts many young people who want to become adventurers. Thermite is one of them.

He trained hard in his hometown village, learned swordsmanship from an old man who used to be an adventurer, and worked hard to improve himself.

However, on his first attempt to kill a monster, he was so terrified that he ran away.

If this were a story, it would end with the words, “The dream of the boy who yearned to be an adventurer did not come true”, but reality is harsh. Unless you die, tomorrow will come.

Even though his dream has been shattered and he lost his goal, he still has to work in order to survive, and so today, Thermite was quietly gathering herbs.

As the sun was setting and he was about to leave, he saw a herb in the corner of his eyes that he had not yet collected.

Being poor, he reflexively reached for it.

As he put the herb away, another one caught his eye.

And he gathered, gathered, gathered. Even though he had to leave soon, he couldn’t stop collecting herbs. Maybe there is a hole in the ground where a lot of medicinal herbs grow. Such anticipation burned in his brain.

He finished collecting the medicinal herbs in his field of vision and suddenly looked around. The area was completely covered by the darkness of the night, and only the moonlight illuminated the area unreliably.

It seemed that he had strayed far from his usual route, and he had no idea how to get home.

“Oh man…”

The sun had completely set and the darkness of the night covered the area. It’s hard to go down the mountain now, relying on uncertain memories. He might become bait for the monsters. If that was the case, it was still more practical to prepare for camping.

Fortunately, he had plenty of herbs, so he didn’t have to worry about food, but the problem was water. No matter how much food he had, he couldn’t stand the thirst.

Since he was so deep in the mountains, there might be a water source somewhere. He dug his ears in, but he couldn’t hear anything that sounded like it.

Just then, he saw something flying in the air out of the corner of my eye.

“That’s…”

In the moonlight, butterflies fluttered effortlessly.

I’ve heard of it. I’ve heard that butterflies in this area sometimes drink water from calm rivers.

If he followed these butterflies, he might be able to solve the water problem.

Relying on a ray of hope, he walked through the mountains. How long had I walked? Just as he was about to run out of energy, he saw some lights in the distance.

As he got closer, he realized that there weren’t just lights. He could see the outline of a house.

With all the strength he had left, Thermite ran off at once.
