“Can I go to the city tomorrow?”
Elena dropped her fork. A dry metallic sound echoed in the area.
“Eh……”
She froze, as if the shock had been too much for her, and I hurried to make an excuse.
“No, it’s not that I’m sick of living here, it’s just that I’ve been ditching my herb collecting job and I wanted to complete it and also give something back to Elena for all the help she’s given me…. You know, in the city, they might have something fashionable for sale.”
“….I wonder if you’ll actually come back.”
She glared at Termito.
“Of course. I’m willing to risk my life.”
He deliberately used strong words to reassure Elena.
“I’m worried.”
She picked up the fork and played with it in her hand.
“There are a lot of pretty girls in town, you know. You never know when Teru might fall for a girl from who knows where.”
Elena puts herself on the shelf and worries unnecessarily.
“Don’t worry. I’m not popular at all.”

No matter what I said, she would reply back and I would be at a loss for an answer.

“My family respects promises above all else. If you don’t come back, I’ll find you to the ends of the earth.”

As he replied, a thought struck him.
“Um, if you’re so worried, why don’t you come with me, Elena-san?”
She sighed, looking troubled.
“You hear me? I’m holed up in these mountains because I hate crowds…That’s why I’m here.”

I gulped down the words, “You don’t like crowds, but you’re lonely, right?”
“Besides, I have sensitive skin, right? If I wear a parasol in the city, I’ll stand out, and then I’ll only be able to go out at night. Or is that what you want? You want to walk around the city at night with me?”
He imagined walking with Elena through the colored streets. I could almost imagine Elena biting a touting prostitute.
“No, that’s not really.”
“That’s why I can’t go.”
“I understand. I’ll be right back.”
When Termito turned away to get ready, he felt a slight resistance on his back. When he turned around, he saw Elena grabbing the hem of the cloth, giving him a wistful look.
“Swear to me. Swear that you’ll come back here.”
Elena tousled her silver hair.
“Kiss my hair.”
“It’s like a spell. In my family, when we make a promise to meet again or a promise that we can’t break, we kiss our hair. It’s a way of saying ‘I won’t leave you behind’.”
I took a handful of silvery hair and brought it close to my face, smelling it softly. I felt dizzy for a moment. I wondered why it smelled so good, even though I had taken the same bath and used the same soap.
“Teru….?”
Elena stares at me anxiously. In order to reassure her as soon as possible, I put my lips on her silky smooth hair.
As soon as it touched. I felt something inside of me break. I let my lips touch again and again, as if my guard had been removed.
This was the only way to make Elena feel safe. If that was the case, kissing her again and again might make her feel more secure. Muttering such excuses in my mind, I followed my desire.
When he kissed her hair for the sixth time, Elena pulled Termito’s face away.
When I looked at her, I saw that her usual composed face was now as flushed as a girl’s.
“….I’m sorry. I forgot to tell you that one kiss is enough for me.”
Elena’s words made Thermite blush as he remembered what he had done.

The aloof Elena is now like a maiden in love. I was both proud and strangely embarrassed to think that I had made her that way. I couldn’t help myself and decided to run to my room
