“Speaking of which, Sister Hong,” the memory owner turned her gaze, and the figure of the Zombie Queen lounging on the rocking chair suddenly appeared in the corner of the laboratory. “You should be able to do it by yourself, right? Can’t you draw your own blood?”

The Zombie Queen opened her narrowed eyes and lazily replied, “I’m too lazy to use my brain.”

“That’s right, it requires a lot of thinking,” someone added.

“Hey, speaking of it, it’s fortunate that we are now in the form of zombies. We’re not afraid of the cold or hunger; otherwise, we would have died within twenty days, let alone twenty years,” another black-haired man with white eyes and glasses, who was working on experimental materials, remarked. “Thanks to Miss Hongyue’s timely appearance, she bought us such a long time.”

The Zombie Queen interrupted, saying, “Alright, alright, I’m flattered. How far have you progressed with the antibody test?”

Glasses replied, “The experimental subjects caught a few days ago were all injected with the latest antidote, and Sixth Brother has already gone to record the experimental data.”

As soon as he finished speaking, a figure rushed into the laboratory.

The man had slightly curly blond hair and shouted excitedly, “The virus in the experimental subjects has begun to decrease!”

Everyone, including the Zombie Queen, turned their attention to the curly-haired man. The curly-haired man was beaming with joy and said, “Two of the test subjects have regained consciousness. Although they only uttered a few words intermittently, come and take a look!”

Everyone was surprised, put down the tools in their hands, and hurried to the laboratory.

The screen in front of Bai Lixin was shaking, and the images of hands swaying from running appeared.

The Zombie Queen wasn’t far away. Bai Lixin observed the Zombie Queen carefully and noticed that she was much thinner than in the memory from twenty years ago.

They soon arrived at a narrow room. The room was crudely divided into several sickbeds with iron plates, and each sickbed held a fully bound zombie.

Curly led the crowd to the two zombies in the middle. These two zombies were different from the others who would bite anyone. They didn’t attack but shivered and huddled on the bed, their eyes filled with doubt.

The words stumbled out of the zombie’s mouth, “Where… who… you…?”

Several people’s eyes filled with joy. The man with glasses, obviously the leader, began to tremble with excitement as he spoke, “Prepare for anesthesia and blood extraction, Fifth. I want to check the number of zombie viruses in their bodies.”

The image on the screen flickered again, and when it came back on, Bai Lixin noticed that these people had gathered in the laboratory again.

All the people were excitedly looking at the blue screen above their heads. Although they had become zombies and could no longer cry or shed tears, their trembling white pupils and scarlet eye sockets revealed their joy.

Several sets of data and two images of human body control appeared on the blue screen.

The memory owner trembled and said, “After injecting liquid W, the number of zombie virus units in the test subject was reduced to one-fifth of the previous count! This subject showed the most significant reduction, but it’s not only this subject. The number of viruses per unit has also decreased in the other test subjects!”

“Our research direction is correct this time.”

The man with glasses held his nose pads with trembling fingertips and said, “Next, we will proceed with the fifth purification and clinical examination of liquid W. Sister Hong, we are only one step away from success.”

———————-

Bai Lixin’s vision flickered again.

When his sight returned, the once peaceful underground laboratory had been overrun by zombies and corpses.

The corridors were filled with zombie remains, and the rooms were no longer bright but shrouded in darkness and tense atmosphere.

The man with glasses fought off the attacking zombies in front of him, turned his head, and shouted, “Little sister, take Sister Hong and go first!”

The Zombie Queen, was weak, but she supported herself on the ground and frowned, saying, “I won’t go.”

The man with glasses crushed a zombie’s head with the metal object in his hand and insisted, “No, Sister Hong, you must go. The Zombie King’s army is approaching! They are here for you. As long as they don’t detect your presence, they won’t harm us. You’re already very weak, and our experiment is on the verge of success. You are humanity’s last hope for victory. If you’re captured by the Zombie King, this laboratory will be destroyed.”

The memory owner tightly held the Zombie Queen’s wrist with both hands, and Bai Lixin heard the fragile voice of the memory owner, “Brother, take care!” She hugged the Zombie Queen, broke free from the zombie frenzy, and ran towards the outside.

Bai Lixin could hear the crying and panting of the memory owner, as well as the sound of footsteps on the ground.

Zombies pursued them relentlessly, but when they were about to be caught, a team of ability users appeared before them.

The memory owner instinctively wanted to call for help but realized that, in the eyes of the ability users, they were also seen as different.

Ability users stood in front, and zombie soldiers chased from behind.

With no escape route, the Zombie Queen suddenly bit the memory owner’s neck.

In the next second, the memory owner’s consciousness began to blur.

The Zombie Queen carefully concealed the memory owner under thick white snow and gently stroked her face.

Through the eyes of the memory owner, Bai Lixin saw the slightly sad and regretful gaze of the Zombie Queen’s white pupils.

“Sleep well.”

“Perhaps this is my ending. You don’t have to die with me. You’ve done well. Leave the rest to me.”

The image in front of Bai Lixin gradually blurred, and the memory owner struggled to reach out, attempting to catch the Zombie Queen. Helpless, she watched as the Zombie Queen staggered to her feet and resolutely headed toward the team of ability users.

With the convergence of the two groups, she lost consciousness completely.

After a long period of darkness, a new scene appeared before Bai Lixin.

The memory owner walked through heavy snow, surrounded by severed limbs of countless zombies.

The world was vast, devoid of other zombies, and the Zombie Queen was gone.

The memory owner searched for a long time in the snow but couldn’t find the Zombie Queen. She eventually returned to the laboratory.

By that time, the laboratory had been overrun by invading zombies. She entered the room through a secret passage.

In this familiar room, she discovered her deceased companions.

In the final moments of their lives, the companions who had been together day and night sent a signal to the outside world.

They embraced each other, protecting the last antigen and the partially completed antidote in their arms, and perished one after another.

The memory owner collapsed into despair upon seeing her companions’ deaths. She cursed hysterically, and finally, the zombie virus ravaged her body, turning her into a true zombie.

She lost all her memories and sanity, with only one instinct remaining—to guard the laboratory, the corpses of her comrades, and the black box.

Anyone who tried to enter this laboratory was deemed an enemy!

The surroundings changed once again.

In the hall of the laboratory, a small team breaks in while the memory owner has lost all consciousness. Frantically, she stands, beheading both zombies and people with abilities around her.

While dodging the attacks, the opposing team scolds, “Yuan, what’s wrong with this zombie?”

“Our abilities are gone, Yuan. We have to find a way to break in!”

With those words, Bai Lixin instinctively searched the chaotic vision that was jumping incessantly, and he finally spotted a man among the fighting ability users.

It was a red-haired man, clutching a massive metal weapon in his hand.

Struggling to hold onto the wall, he looks towards them with pain in his eyes.

This was “Yuan,” known as a genius ability user. Through Yuan’s metallic weapon, Bai Lixin can clearly see the appearance of the memory owner.

Previously, Bai Lixin had seen the memory owner’s face through a reflection, when she was still a beautiful girl with white eyes.

Now, looking at the current appearance of the memory owner through Yuan’s metal weapon, Bai Lixin was taken aback.

On the metal screen, a ferocious monster with a decaying body and blood-red fangs stared back at them.

As the zombies continue to jump around, the memory owner suddenly jumps up when they are surrounded.

The zombies instinctively attacked, but the memory owner merely drove away the zombies attempting to break into the laboratory, showing no intention of harming them.

However, one of the ability users thrust his weapon into the memory owner’s body, eliciting a painful roar. The memory owner retaliated, charging towards the ability users, causing chaos.

Facing the memory owner’s overwhelming power, the powerless ability users were unable to fight back. Combined with the interference of other zombies, it didn’t take long for several ability users to perish in battle.

Under the influence of the zombie virus and obsession, the memory owner transformed into a beast driven by a desire for killing.

Just as it extended its sharp claws again, Yuan exhausted his last bit of strength and decapitated the memory owner.

The scene before Bai Lixin’s eyes rotated several times before gradually fading into the corner.

In his line of sight, Yuan removed the crystal nucleus with his last ounce of strength, compelled to leave with his weapon amidst the other zombies.

Yuan’s mission ended in failure.

Darkness engulfed everything once again.

Within the empty darkness, Bai Lixin took a deep breath and gradually released the memories from that period.

That was the complete context of the situation.

The true identity of the special zombie, the mysteries within the laboratory, the owner of the transparent crystal nucleus, why the Zombie Queen appeared in the ark, and the reason behind Yuan’s failed mission… all of these knots were gradually unraveled, each interconnected like rings.

A familiar voice echoed in his ears, close yet distant, hoarse and low, ethereal yet filled with concern.

Bai Lixin frowned. He opened his eyes, and immediately saw Dr. Sang’s pure white pupils.

He was about to smile at the man, but noticed the tense atmosphere surrounding them.

The bearded man and bald man stood at a distance, their eyes filled with murderous intent as they aim their guns and daggers at Dr. Sang.

Xia Chi and the others surrounded Bai Lixin protectively, their gazes fixed on the bearded man and bald man.

Upon seeing Bai Lixin wake up, the bearded man frowned and shouted, “Bai Lixin, don’t worry, we will definitely rescue you.”

The bald man added angrily, “Why is Dr. Sang a zombie? Did he get swapped in the ruined city last time? Damn it, apart from Fourth Brother, Dr. Sang got swapped too. Compared to the identity of an ability user , researchers can move around the ark more easily. Damn zombie, you’re truly cunning.”

The bald man continued, “Not only did you follow the ark, but you also followed our Fifth Brother’s sweetheart. It’s just too bad.”

The bearded man chimed in, “Yeah, our fifth brother cries every day. It’s infuriating.”

The bald man concluded, “Sinister and cunning zombie.”

The bearded man joined in, “Scheming zombie.”

The two locked eyes and simultaneously exclaim, “Despicable and shameless!”

Everyone: “…”

Dr. Sang: “…”

Bai Lixin: “…”

I was so sad after seeing those memories, but now I’m numb.

He rubbed his slightly aching forehead while glancing at Zhou Guang and the others.

Understanding his intent, they swiftly drew their weapons and incapacitated the bearded and bald man before they could react, subduing them.

The bearded man looked at them in disbelief, but as the expressions of imminent doom appeared on their faces, Bai Lixin took a deep breath and said, “Listen to me.”
