“Excuse me guests, what’s happening inside?” The attendant’s voice came from the entrance. The attendant, dressed in a golden uniform, anxiously stood at the door, stretching his neck to look inside.

The eldest daughter’s tone turned stern. “Why did you just arrive? Something happened inside! Didn’t you say your resort was absolutely safe?”

The attendant was somewhat at a loss. “Ma’am, let me go in and see what’s going on. Please remain calm. Rest assured, our resort is absolutely safe.”

With that, the attendant carefully stepped onto the bloodless floor and walked inside.

Compared to Mr. Nick and the youngest son-in-law, the attendant’s expression remained much calmer upon seeing the scene inside. His pupils only contracted, and his face turned pale several times, but he wasn’t frightened to the ground.

Bai Lixin noticed hus expression and asked, “Did you just come from upstairs?”

The attendant’s face turned even paler, and his voice trembled. “Yes, that’s right.”

Bai Lixin asked further, “What’s the situation up there?”

The attendant swallowed hard. “It’s… exactly the same as this.”

Bai Lixin continued, “Who is the deceased?”

The attendant replied, “It’s… the old man at the far end of the corridor.”

Bai Lixin said, “Mr. Oude?”

The attendant trembled and nodded, “Y-Yes, that’s right, it’s him.”

“That gentleman, just like this lady, had his head cut off and hung under the chandelier, limbs hanging in the corners, and pieces of flesh hanging on the walls.”

Although the eldest daughter and the others dared not come inside, they had been standing next to the door, listening. Upon hearing the attendant’s description, the eldest daughter quickly imagined a scene in her mind, and her eyes rolled back as she slumped weakly against the wall.

The eldest son-in-law, wanting to support the eldest daughter, found himself unable to bear her weight. His frail body couldn’t bear the weight of the eldest daughter, and he ended up being pressed to the ground by her, looking disheveled.

The sticky blood on the carpet immediately stuck to his face.

After touching the wet substance on his cheek and looking at it, the eldest son-in-law’s eyes rolled back, and he passed out immediately.

The eldest daughter kicked the eldest son-in-law to the side in disgust, and cursed under her breath, “Useless coward, go away.”

“Has anyone called the police? With such a big homicide case, the police should have arrived, right?” Bai Lixin cautiously circled the lobby. “Where is the detective who came here yesterday? Did he investigate something? Or should I have him come here to see the scene first?”

The room appeared clean, without any footprints. The bones were nailed to the walls and tied with ropes.

Every room they stayed in looked the same. So these nails were only driven into the walls recently.

Wouldn’t someone hear the sound of nails hitting the wall late at night?

Mrs. Nick’s next-door neighbor was the eldest daughter, and across the hall was the eldest son-in-law. The eldest son-in-law’s neighbor was Hongyue.

Didn’t they discover anything last night?

Bai Lixin was about to ask Hongyue, but the somewhat pale attendant interrupted with a trembling voice, “Sir, what are you talking about?”

“There was no detective who came to the resort last night, and I haven’t seen any detective since I woke up in the morning. Are you perhaps frightened? Should I call a doctor to examine you?”

Bai Lixin’s gaze refocused on the attendant. “?”

The attendant rubbed his hands and continued, “I’m sorry, but there was a problem near the resort. There was a mudslide on the mountain outside, and I just called the police, but the phone lines were washed away, so we couldn’t contact the outside world.”

The youngest son-in-law slowly regained his voice. He leaned against the wall behind him, his legs trembling as he stood up unsteadily. “Then, why don’t we find someone to dig through the mudslide? The weather has been clear all along. How could there be a mudslide? The first day, Mrs. Oude disappeared, and now two people died on the second day. That’s already three people!”

He continued, “Is the killer is someone from your resort? Luring us here, killing people, and displaying them in such evil and cruel forms. Is there some hidden secret in your resort?”

“Could it be some kind of cult?”

The attendant quickly explained with a respectful tone, “Sir, please believe us. The resort’s staff members undergo rigorous training, and ordinary people cannot become resort employees. We would never commit such cruel acts.”

“As for what you mentioned, it’s because it rained heavily here for several days before you arrived. Although there was no water on the road when you came, rainwater seeped into the mountains. We’ve already sent people for help just now, but there’s only one road out of the resort, and it’s blocked by a landslide several meters high. We can climb over it, but after crossing, it will still take a long time to reach the nearest village.”

The youngest son-in-law: “Didn’t anyone hear the sound and come to help us? With such a large resort, shouldn’t many people have come here out of curiosity?”

The attendant replied, “It’s not like that. Our resort has always been positioned as high-end and luxurious. We only accommodate a maximum of twenty guests during a given time period, and we only open for one period each year.”

“Furthermore, in order to ensure the privacy of our guests, we deliberately chose this secluded location away from the city. Even the road you took to come here was specially built by our owner for the resort.”

“So, other people don’t usually come here. Occasionally, one or two lost individuals might pass by, but that’s almost nonexistent.”

The youngest son-in-law’s face turned an unpleasant shade of purple. “Aren’t there many staff in your resort? Isn’t the owner capable? Hurry and have him find someone to clear the mudslide. I don’t want to wander around this resort anymore. Let us leave this place!”

The attendant gradually regained his composure. He glanced at the lifeless body above and looked around. He shook his head and said, “I can’t do that, sir.”

“These are two extremely brutal murder cases. If the killer is not among us, then it must be one of you… or several. I can’t guarantee that the killer isn’t you. And even if we manage to clear the collapsed mountain, what if the killer follows you and commits another crime on the way?”

“Moreover, these are just possibilities. Currently, with our capabilities, it’s impossible to clear the collapsed mountain in a short period of time. The soil on the mountain is still loose, so as soon as we make a hole, another landslide might happen.”

Bai Lixin asked, “Have there been cases of landslides here before?”

The attendant shook his head. “No, this is the first time.”

Bai Lixin redirected the conversation back to the beginning. “You mentioned earlier that the person who claimed to be a detective didn’t come here? If you had seen him, he would have left a deep impression. He would be wearing a white suit, have a set of silver hair, and light blue eyes. You really haven’t seen him?”

The attendant tried to recall. ”Really, sir. The characteristics you mentioned are quite distinctive, and I would remember if I had seen him.”

“I apologize.”

“It’s alright,” Bai Lixin’s gaze fell slowly on Mr. Nick’s face. Mr. Nick was already sitting in a disheveled and stupefied manner on the ground. He seemed to be overwhelmed by fear.

It had been a while, and he still hadn’t recovered. He sat there, pale-faced, with his eyes trembling and twitching. Although this scene was terrifying, it hadn’t reached the point of making one question their existence. Mr. Nick’s reaction was somewhat strange.

Bai Lixin walked up to Mr. Nick, his slender body blocking the light above and casting Mr. Nick into darkness.

“Mr. Nick?”

Bai Lixin called out softly.

With the light blocked, Mr. Nick raised his head in confusion, fear and tremors evident in his eyes.

“What’s the matter, Mr. Nick? Did you discover something?”

Mr. Nick’s body stiffened, as if his consciousness, which had been detached, was completely awakened by Bai Lixin’s voice. His gaze shifted nervously, avoiding eye contact, and he said, “No… I didn’t find anything. I was just scared. In my memory, although Mrs. Nick was a bit greedy for money and indulgent, she had always been beautiful and exquisite. I’ve never seen her look so horrifying and ugly. So, I was scared.”

“Thank you for your concern, dear Bai Lixin.”

Mr. Nick’s words were evasive, indicating that he was hiding something.

Bai Lixin pressed on, “Did you see your wife last night?”

Mr. Nick shook his head. “No, after dinner, I went back to my room. Shortly after, the actress I had made eye contact with during the day came to see me. She was a beautiful wildflower. Who cares if she’s…”

Mr. Nick was about to say “who cares if she’s alive or dead,” but when he glanced Mrs Nick’s horrifying lifeless gaze, the curse he was about to utter got stuck in his throat. He changed his words, “Who… who cares about her.”

“Do you happen to know if Mrs. Nick had any enemies?”

Mr. Nick replied, “Enemies? I wouldn’t say enemies, but my eldest daughter did dislike her, though it was just occasional verbal clashes, nothing that serious to resort to murder.”

Bai Lixin observed Mr. Nick’s expression. “And what about you? How was your relationship with Mrs. Nick?”

Mr. Nick suddenly looked up. “Are you suspecting me? How could that be! I did it the whole night last night, how could I have had the time to come and kill her? And even if I wanted to kill her, I could have done it at home. Was it necessary for me to spend so much money to bring her to this place?”

“Hey, you’re going too far, you know?” Mr. Nick glared at Bai Lixin. “The one who died is my wife. Instead of comforting me, you’re suspecting me. The one who should be the most upset in here should be me, right?”

Bai Lixin retracted his gaze. “I understand, I apologize, Mr. Nick.”

A bald crow flapped its wings and landed on Bai Lixin’s shoulder: “……”

︿(╯△╰)︿ Hey, I’m flying.

Bai Lixin shifted his gaze to the youngest son-in-law standing next to Mr. Nick. “Sir, may I ask you a question? Your room is located diagonally across from Mrs. Nick’s room. Did you see anyone entering Mrs. Nick’s room last night?”

The younest son-in-law glanced at the doorway and hesitated for two seconds before speaking, “I didn’t see anything.”

Bai Lixin exchanged a glance with Hongyue, then looked at the attendant. “Although the police’s arrival may be slow, I still suggest that you preserve the crime scene. Does the resort have cameras? It’s best to photograph all the details of the rooms with a camera to ensure comprehensive evidence. I’ll go upstairs and take a look. Farewell.”

No longer paying attention to the people at the scene, Bai Lixin and Hongyue walked out of the room one after another.

Bai Lixin didn’t rush to leave. He first glanced at the eldest son-in-law, who was still unconscious, and then looked at the eldest daughter. “Did you hear any noises coming from next door last night, like the sound of walls being smashed or anything like that?”

The eldest daughter sat on top of her unconscious husband, wiping the cold sweat from her forehead in a disheveled manner. “No, I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. I slept until morning and didn’t hear anything.”

“Thank you for your answer. What happened to you? I see you’re sweating.”

The eldest daughter replied, “Oh, it’s nothing. I become anemic if I don’t eat. I’m just a bit anemic now, but I’ll be fine after eating something later.”

Jia’er remained seated in her wheelchair, quietly waiting at the door. When she saw Bai Lixin approaching, she smiled faintly. “It seems that our trip to the backyard won’t be happening today. Mr. Bai Lixin, I won’t disturb your detective game anymore. I’ll be waiting for you in my room.”

Bai Lixin smiled apologetically before leaving. Before he left, he glanced at the still numb youngest daughter.

While climbing the stairs, Bai Lixin slowly asked Hongyue, “You slept late last night. Did you see anything?”

Hongyue replied, “To be honest, I only saw Mrs. Nick coming out of her room. But it wasn’t just her who went out. The youngest daughter first went out, and then the eldest son-in-law.”

“And also you.”

Bai Lixin smiled awkwardly.

Hongyue continued: “The last to go out was Mrs. Nick.”

“Later, I really wanted to see what would happen in the corridor. After all, I was getting sleepy and needed auxiliary tools to stay up late, so I went to sit on the sofa and wanted to make a cup of black tea.”

“Before the black tea finished brewing, I fell unconscious.”

“Fortunately, the charcoal fire on the tea kettle was only a small flame, so it automatically extinguished itself. Otherwise, the teapot might have exploded, and my glorious beauty would have been ruined.”

Hongyue asked, “When you were talking to the attendant earlier about the detective last night, did you really see someone who claimed to be a detective?”

Bai Lixin lowered his voice and spoke in a voice only the two of them and the bird could here. “Yes, we were following Mrs. Nick when we caught the youngest daughter and son-in-law in the act of having an affair. Mrs. Nick used that affair as leverage against them.”

Hongyue exclaimed, “So the youngest daughter and son-in-law have a motive to commit murder?”

Bai Lixin replied, “Correct.”

Hongyue looked at the bald crow on Bai Lixin’s shoulder with disdain. “Is this bald and ugly crow something you picked up from the backyard?”

The crow flapped its wings angrily. “I am a little demon oord, you fish-lipped human!”

︿(`Д)︿!

Hongyue’s eyes went wide.

Bai Lixin shrugged, “You heard it right. It is indeed an ac demon.”

Hongyue grabbed the crow with her bare hands and poked its belly. “This is a demon?”

She hesitated for a moment and then continued, “Bai Lixin, shouldn’t you fight against fraud? How can such an ugly creature be a demon? Aren’t you being deceived?”

She smirked at the crow in her hand and said, “You clown, what did you just call me? Say it again, I want to hear it. Hmm?”

The crow instantly ruffled its feathers in response, “Your, your Ladyship.”

Terrifying, so terrifying! Humans are so terrifying! I want to return to the demon realm, wuuuu.

Bai Lixin: “…”

Which one of you is truly the demon?

[The little demon is so weak that Hongyue is worried about God Xin being deceived. What a pitiful little demon.]

[Little demon: Hmph, flaps wings angrily!]

After struggling hard to break free from Hongyue’s hand, the little demon vigorously flapped its wings and escaped back onto Bai Lixin’s shoulder, tucking its head into Bai Lixin’s neck.

Hongyue scoffed and then resumed the previous topic, “After the encounter last night, what did you and the detective do?”

Bai Lixin replied, “The youngest daughter and eldest son-in-law left first, followed by Mrs. Nick after hiding the treasure. After they left, I examined the hiding place of the treasure and discovered a small secret compartment.”
