“Yes, this little brat is me,” the Taoist stuck his head out and took a look, “Look at how young I was back then, full of collagen. Now, I’m really old.”

Bai Lixin casually responded with an “Mhm,” “You’re not old now, you’re not even forty yet. Your life hasn’t even reached halfway.”

The photos in the album were of the two of them—sometimes together in a photo, sometimes individually. Sometimes it was a meticulously posed frontal shot, while other times it appeared to be a casual snapshot of life.

After finishing the buns, the Taoist started eating a tea egg. As he peeled the egg, he slowly asked Bai Lixin, “You seem quite interested in my senior sister? Are you suspecting that those two talismans were written by my senior sister?”

Bai Lixin’s fingertips that were flipping through the album paused slightly. He spoke in a calm tone, “No, why would I? I just think she’s beautiful.”

“It doesn’t matter. Regardless of whether you suspect it or not,” the Taoist shrugged, “my senior sister couldn’t be the one who wrote the talismans. That’s absolutely impossible.”

Bai Lixin: “…”

In the thick album, the young boy gradually grew into a verdant youth within its pages. He later transformed into a young man, and finally began to exude the confidence and radiance of adulthood.

The woman remained the same from beginning to end. In the first photo, they looked like mother and son. As Bai Lixin continued flipping through the album, their relationship transitioned from “mother and son” to “sister and brother.”

Bai Lixin kept flipping through. From the time the Taoist was in his twenties, the album contained only photos of the Taoist himself.

Over time, the expression on the Taoist’s face shifted from the initial confident one, to a mature and reserved one.

Only after reaching the last page of the album did Bai Lixin close it. “Why does your senior sister stop appearing in the photos?”

The Taoist was currently sipping porridge, the thick liquid making a slurping sound as it was drawn through the straw and into his mouth.

“She’s been gone for over ten years,” the Taoist sighed after swallowing the porridge.

Bai Lixin, “Gone… is it the kind of ‘gone’ I’m thinking?”

The Taoist sighed again, “It should be. Sigh, it’s such a pity, a beautiful woman had such a short life.”

When discussing the sad past, the Taoist pushed the unfinished porridge to the side, and his gaze began to wander. “It happened to be a snowstorm on that day. My senior sister didn’t return all night. Later, I found her body by the riverside. She was as elegant and beautiful as ever when she died. Snowflakes fell on her white body, like a soft white blanket. I still remember the scene. She had a smile at the corner of her mouth, a tranquil smile on her face, as if she had merely fallen asleep.”

“I never thought that my senior sister, who was laughing and joking with me yesterday, would become a lifeless body in the blink of an eye. It was me who buried her in the public cemetery that day. To be honest, I had never considered the concept of death before that day. In my subconscious, I always believed my senior sister would accompany me through all the important moments of my life, but from that day on, I suddenly grasped the essence of life.”

“Life is like this, sometimes strong, sometimes fragile to the slightest touch. Only by treating each day as if it were the last, and each meeting as if it were the last, can we avoid leaving behind regrets.”

Bai Lixin placed the album on the coffee table. “My condolences.”

The Taoist continued drinking his porridge. “Sigh, so much time has passed, and I’ve long since come to terms with it. I am a cultivator after all.”

“So, that’s why I said the person drawing talismans definitely isn’t my senior sister, because she’s no longer here. Of course that’s unless my senior sister comes back to life, but how can the dead be resurrected?”

Bai Lixin fell into silence. He scanned the hall, his gaze landing on the altar by the window.

The incense in the censer had burned out, leaving twisted gray ashes inside.

Fresh fruits were placed on the table. On the left side of the altar sat a memorial tablet, inscribed with the words “Senior Sister Miao Pan’er’s Memorial Tablet.” On the right side stood a statue of an ancient Taoist ancestor.

Bai Lixin felt something was a bit odd about the altar, but he couldn’t pinpoint what it was at the moment.

“If you still don’t believe me, you can go to the cemetery and find my senior sister’s gravestone.” The Taoist tossed the remaining porridge into the trash can casually, stretched his neck, and yawned, “Alright, you’ve seen the photos. I’ve been busy all night. If there’s nothing else, can I see you off?”

The master was driving away the guest, so Bai Lixin couldn’t linger for long. After a brief exchange with the Taoist, he left the Taoist’s residence.

As he exited the alley, the lady selling breakfast items was getting ready to pack up. Bai Lixin recalled the hesitant expression she had earlier. After a moment of thought, he walked over.

“Sister, do you have any breakfast items left?” He stopped her before she started packing up her thermos.

“Only tea eggs are left, young man,” the lady glanced up at Bai Lixin, “Oh, you’re the young man who was with the Taoist earlier?”

“That’s right, it’s me. You have a really good memory, sister,” Bai Lixin took out a ten yuan note from his pocket, “Give me two tea eggs.”

The lady quickly took the money and put it in her cash box. “You’re right. I might be ordinary in many aspects, but I have an exceptional memory. I can’t forget anyone I’ve met, just one look and it sticks with me.”

She skillfully put two tea eggs into a plastic bag and took out nine yuan from her cash box. “Here you go, tea eggs are fifty cents each, and here’s your change, nine yuan.”

Bai Lixin only took the tea eggs. “You seem quite familiar with the Daoist from earlier. Are you close to him?”

The lady replied, “I’ve been selling breakfast in this area for over twenty years. This kid has been coming to buy breakfast from me every day for more than ten years.”

As she spoke, the lady gestured with her hand. “How could we not be familiar after so many years?”

“But this kid is also kind of pitiful. He used to be different. Back then he was quite handsome, dressed up like a peacock every day. But ever since his family left, he’s become a different person.”

“He was quite talkative before, but now he’s become somewhat unkempt and withdrawn. He doesn’t have friends and always keeps to himself. Sometimes, I see him standing at the alley muttering to himself,” the lady shivered, “Honestly, it’s a bit creepy.”

“So when I saw the two of you coming together just now, I was surprised and happy for him. He finally made a friend.”

Bai Lixin asked, “His family? What were they like? Do you remember?”

The lady held the money up, lost in thought. “She was a very beautiful woman. Initially, she used to go out with him, but then she disappeared. I asked him and found out she left.”

After a few seconds of silence, Bai Lixin took out his phone and showed a picture of Luo Mei, “Have you seen this person here?”

The lady squinted at the phone, scrutinizing it carefully. “This person looks familiar, it seems like she’s really been here before. But it’s been so long, I can’t recall when exactly. I’m getting old so my memory isn’t that good.”

Bai Lixin silently took back his phone. “Thank you, sister. I’m leaving.”

“Okay, take care.” She watched Bai Lixin leave and then continued tidying up. After a while, she realized that the change she gave the young man hadn’t been taken. She hurriedly went to catch up, but despite only a couple of minutes passing, there was no trace of the young man.

She scratched her head in confusion and returned to her stall, mumbling to herself, “It’s true that strange people befriend strange people. All of them are so odd.”

——————————–

After leaving the Taoist’s place, Bai Lixin sent a text to Shen Mo: [Are you filming?]

Almost immediately after Bai Lixin sent the message, he received a reply: [Not yet, we are preparing to film. What’s wrong, do you miss me?]

Bai Lixin: [Yeah. Are you still shooting that period drama?]

Shen Mo: [Hehe, yes. I’m shooting that recently. The director is perfectionist, so the progress is slow.]

Bai Lixin: [Is Luo Mei there?]

This time, Shen Mo took noticeably longer to respond. After a few seconds, he coldly replied with just one word: [Yes.]

Bai Lixin: [Can I visit the set?]

Shen Mo: [Visit my set?]

Bai Lixin: [What else?]

On the other end of the phone, Shen Mo happily waved his unseen big tail around vigorously: [Share Location – My Location] [Here you go, I’ve prepared delicious food for you.]

Bai Lixin: [See you in half an hour.]

Shen Mo: [Alright! [Cute.jpg] [Shy.jpg]]

Bai Lixin: “…”

A tough man acting cute?

Absolutely unnecessary!

————————-

Half an hour later, Bai Lixin arrived at their filming location, the same place as yesterday, just in a different spot.

Probably under Shen Mo’s orders, as soon as Bai Lixin stepped out of the taxi, he saw his assistant waving to him from the entrance.

As he got closer, the assistant quickly approached him. “You finally made it. Teacher Shen asked me to pick you up. He’s currently filming. Let’s go, I’ll take you to his RV for some rest.”

Bai Lixin replied, “Alright, thank you.”

During the walk, they inevitably passed by the filming site.

Shen Mo was suspended in the air again, while Luo Mei had changed into a red costume and sat on a rattan chair, building up her emotions.

Around her were three or four assistants. Some held water cups for her to drink, some touched up her makeup, and one was even kneeling down to massage her legs.

Without context, one might have mistaken her for a queen in her palace.

Luo Mei had been enjoying the service of her assistants when she happened to raise her eyes and caught sight of Bai Lixin in the distance.

In that moment of eye contact, the beautiful young man’s face immediately turned red. He lowered his head in embarrassment and hurriedly followed behind Shen Mo’s assistant.

Luo Mei narrowed her eyes, a gleam of interest flashing through them.

As they walked, the assistant explained, “Teacher Shen has a lot to film this morning, so he might not be able to come until noon. He said everything inside the RV is for you, eat and drink as you please.”

After a pause, the assistant took a deep breath and continued, “Additionally, Teacher Shen specifically instructed that if you’re tired, you can rest on the bed. His exact words were, ‘My bed is yours to use.’”

After saying that, the assistant sneakily observed Bai Lixin’s expression.

However, Bai Lixin merely nodded calmly, showing no change in his demeanor. “Oh, I see.”

‘I’m now numb to the sweet talk, okay?’

The assistant was distressed: “…”

‘Teacher Shen, oh Teacher Shen, you’re at the top of the industry pyramid. How could someone as exceptional as you suddenly turn into a licking dog?

You even have a cleanliness obsession. Previously, you wouldn’t even let people sit in the RV’s seats.

But look at the beauty’s expression. He clearly isn’t giving you a second thought.

Indeed, licking dogs don’t have a good ending!’

After the assistant led Bai Lixin to the RV, he quickly returned to his own work station.

Instead of rushing into the RV, Bai Lixin stood outside and looked around.

Next to Shen Mo’s RV was another one, not very close but not far either, about four or five meters away.

The quality of that RV seemed comparable to Shen Mo’s. Upon closer consideration, it could be guessed that this must be Luo Mei’s RV.

He stared at Luo Mei’s RV for a while, then heard slow footsteps behind him. Bai Lixin pretended not to hear and continued to stare at the RV.

“Why are you looking so absorbed?” Soon, Luo Mei’s unique charming voice came from behind Bai Lixin. She had approached him and was now staring at him intently, her alluring eyes fixed on him. “Would you like to visit my RV?”

The young man trembled like a mouse whose tail had been stepped on. He shook his shoulder as if half-embarrassed and half-nervous, and stood obediently, his voice as small as a mosquito’s, quivering nervously, “Teacher-Teacher Luo, hello.”

Luo Mei stood before the young man, the charm in her eyes mixed with a predatory aggression. “Just one night passed, and you’ve already forgotten our agreement? Didn’t I tell you how you should address me?”

The young man’s hand shook visibly, his eyes reddening, tears almost welling up. “S-Sister Mei.”

Luo Mei was in a great mood. She pointed at the distant RV, “That’s my RV. Would you like to see where I usually rest?”

The young man hesitated for a couple of seconds. “Okay, Sister Mei.”

Following Luo Mei into her RV, the door was firmly shut behind them.

There was no one else inside the RV. In the enclosed space, it was just the two of them.

Luo Mei walked directly to the control desk. “Xiao Xin, what would you like to drink? Champagne or whisky?”

“Ah?” The young man blushed and waved his hands in fluster, “Sister Mei, um, I don’t drink.”

Luo Mei asked, “How about some juice then?”

“Oh, yes,” the young man replied.

A minute later, Luo Mei came over with two glasses.

Placing an orange juice in front of the nervous young man, Luo Mei smiled playfully as she sat down. “I’m not going to devour you. Why are you so nervous? Are you scared of me?”

The young man quickly waved his hands, “No, no, no, it’s not like that. I just didn’t expect to be this close to my idol. I got too excited, that’s all.”

He picked up the juice and nervously took a couple sips. “Sister Mei, don’t you have scenes this morning?”

“I have to wait a bit longer. It’ll be my turn in about an hour or so. Are you here to see Shen Mo? You two seem to have an unusual relationship. Are you a couple?” Luo Mei openly scrutinized the young man, asking with a teasing tone.

Inside the RV, a gentle breeze seemed to have blown in from nowhere, carrying a faint floral fragrance.

The young man rubbed his hands nervously. “No, we’re just regular friends.”

“You might consider Shen Mo a friend, but his gaze toward you is far from ordinary,” Luo Mei narrowed her eyes, her voice carrying a hint of allure. “Your gaze toward me also seems unusual. Do you… like me?”

The young man’s face exploded like a red apple. His eyes reddened and his expression so aggrieved that he seemed almost about to cry. “I, I… I’m sorry, Sister Mei, I didn’t mean to.”

“Haha,” the young man’s innocent behavior evidently pleased Luo Mei. She let out a silver bell-like laugh, and with fingernails coated in crimson nail polish, she tapped the table lightly. “Why apologize for liking someone?”

“Xiao Xin,” the woman’s fingertip traced a straight line on the table using the droplets of water, then she came to a stop in front of Bai Lixin, her fingers supporting her chin. Her gaze was sharp as she scrutinized the young man before her. “Xiao Xin, would you like to take things further with me?”

The young man grew even shyer, looking shocked as he gazed at the woman in front of him. “H..how, how would we take things further?”

Luo Mei’s lips curled into a smile. “A man and a woman, is there any way to take things further beyond that?”

After saying this, she glanced toward the direction of the door.

“Ah, it seems you should leave,” she stood up from her seat leisurely, “If you agree, let me know through a text message.”

The woman made a “shush” gesture toward the young man. “Remember, this is our secret. Absolutely no one else can know, understood?”

The young man stared at her with a blushing face, nodding stiffly.

As soon as the woman finished speaking, the door of the RV was suddenly pushed open. Shen Mo stood at the entrance with a dark and expressionless face, his gloomy gaze fixed on Luo Mei inside the RV.

Luo Mei shrugged. “Teacher Shen?”

“Teacher Luo,” the man’s tone was indifferent, “The director is calling for you.”

“Alright, I’ll be there. Xiao Xin, don’t forget what I said earlier.”

——————————-

Shen Mo returned to his own RV with a gloomy expression. His chest was filled with anger, and he forcefully closed the RV door.

He faced the RV door with his back turned to Bai Lixin, silently pondering how to face Bai Lixin.

Should he scold him?

No, he couldn’t bring himself to do that.

How about hitting him?

No, he definitely couldn’t do that, either.

Then maybe he should lock him up, preventing him from going anywhere.

No, that wouldn’t work either. Bai Lixin would surely feel sad.

Ahh, so vexing!

Is this what the troubles of love feel like?

As Shen Mo was torn about how to confront Bai Lixin, his shoulder was suddenly forcefully turned from behind. Before he could react, a pair of warm lips pressed against his own.
