The unfinished building stood tall in the center of the city, a stark contrast to the bustling lights and noise.

There were four people sitting in the car: Big Zhuang was driving, Red Hair and Mr. Mouse were in the back, and Bai Lixin was in the front passenger seat.

Big Zhuang glanced at the rearview mirror, feeling guilty when he saw Red Hair and Mr. Rat were still visibly shaken from fear.

It was all his fault.

If he hadn’t insisted on dragging them into playing some game in a haunted abandoned building, they wouldn’t have been frightened like this.

Big Zhuang was more humble than usual. “Red, Mouse, I’ll take you home first.”

“I don’t want to go home!” Red Hair blurted out; her mind was filled with the constant sound of footsteps in the darkness. “I live alone, and if you take me home now, I’m afraid I’ll scare myself to death.”

Though Mr. Mouse felt a bit embarrassed, he agrees, “Yeah, I don’t want to go home either. My house is in an old neighborhood, and just thinking about passing through that pitch-dark alley makes me scared.”

Big Zhuang felt even more guilty and quickly glanced at Bai Lixin, “What about you? Where do you want to go?”

The young man’s scrutinizing gaze surveyed the city through the window. “I’m going to the police station.”

Red Hair and Mr. Mouse exchange glances and said in unison, “We’ll go there too!”

The place with the strongest yang energy definitely feels safe!

A police station is good!

Ten minutes later, Big Zhuang parked the car outside the police station. It was now five in the morning, and the moon was setting, revealing a faint light on the city skyline.

The police station hadn’t officially started working yet, but there were officers on the night shift.

The duty officer was dozing off when he heard the door open. He lazily lifted his eyelids and saw four people walking in.

Walking at the front was a young man who looked like he had seen the world. He had a calm expression, and didn’t look like he was facing any difficulties.

Behind the young man were two young men and a woman who appear flustered. They looked around as they walked, their shoulders hunched slightly, and their expressions nervous.

Years of professional experience told the duty officer that the young man and woman in the middle must have encountered some trouble.

It was dark outside, did they encounter a burglary or a robber?

The duty officer’s sleepiness vanished instantly. He sat up straight, bypassing the attractive young man and focusing on the nervous ones. “Comrades, what’s the matter?”

“I need help,” the young man at the front responded. As for the nervous young man and woman, they took a seat in the rest area not far from the front desk, rubbing their shoulders and looking relieved.

The last one to enter the police station was a slightly older young man. He looked at the man and woman guiltily, and finally followed the good-looking young man to the front desk. “Hello, officer.”

The duty officer was somewhat puzzled, but he quickly calmed down and looked at the young man, “What do you need help with?”

The young man: “I can’t find my way home.”

Big Zhuang: “???”

The duty officer: “Huh? Say that again?”

Bai Lixin sighed. “I think I’ve lost my memory. I only remember my name is Bai Lixin, but I don’t remember where I live, who’s in my family, or how old I am today. I want to go home, Uncle Policeman.”

The duty officer hesitated and looked at Big Zhuang behind Bai Lixin, “Is he your friend?”

Big Zhuang nodded and then quickly shook his head, seeking help from Mr. Mouse not far behind.

He didn’t know Bai Lixin.

Playing a spirit summoning game in a haunted place isn’t something anyone would easily agree to. Before this, he approached many people, but ultimately only found Red Hair and Mr. Mouse, and was still missing one person.

Mr. Mouse later brought in Bai Lixin to help. As for where Mr. Mouse found such a great expert, Big Zhuang really didn’t know.

They just met tonight, you could say they’re friends, but it hadn’t reached that level yet.

Not friends, but they’re acquaintances.

After hearing the conversation, Mr. Mouse in the rest area answered Big Zhuang’s question, “I don’t know who he is either. Since you urgently needed help, I posted a part-time job online, and he took on the job.”

“I only know his name is Bai Lixin. I have no idea what he does.”

Big Zhuang: “…”

‘I asked you to find someone reliable, and you recruited someone so hastily?!

But maybe I can’t say it was hasty. Without Bai Lixin, they might all have died tonight.

Such a powerful person actually lost his memory?’

S419M: [Lost memory? Lord Host, have you really lost your memory?]

Bai Lixin: [Are you a ten-year-old? Do you believe that too? After completing the first game and before leaving, that little monster mentioned there’s another game waiting for us. In the past, when entering copies, the system would at least explain the background and guide us through the plot transitions. I don’t know if that little monster is selfish or not, but it completely abandoned us. I need to know my identity information in this world at the very least.]

[To put it another way, we can’t keep wandering on the streets forever.]

S419M: […That makes sense.]

The duty officer finally believed that the one seeking help was this good-looking young man who seemed the least troubled.

He brought out a registration form and pushed it in front of Bai Lixin, then skillfully opened the police network query system. “Register your information. Your name is ‘Bai Lixin’? Which characters? Write it down.”

Bai Lixin took a pen and simply registered on the registration form. Because of the memory loss, fields like age and ID were left blank. He wrote “Bai Lixin” in the name section and “Male” in the gender section.

The duty officer input “Bai Lixin” into the computer, quickly retrieving information on all people named “Bai Lixin” in the city and the information came with ID details and photos. Because the young man’s features were too distinct, the duty officer easily found the young man’s information among the over twenty “Bai Lixins”.

Bai Lixin, male, 22 years old…

This was followed by his contact number, home address, and family information.

Due to the careful handling of the case and responsibility to the person seeking help, the duty officer didn’t directly give the address to the young man. Instead, he called the young man’s family.

A woman answered the phone and, upon hearing that her son had been found, let out a mournful cry. After confirming the police station’s address, she promptly hang up. Despite being over eighteen and legally an adult, parents remain the guardians.

After contacting the guardian to the person asking for help, the duty officer finally relaxed. He pointed to the rest area and said, “You wait there for a while. Your parents said they would arrive in half an hour.”

At this moment, the young man took out an all-black watch from his pocket. “There is also this, I picked it and am looking for the owner.”

The duty officer: “…”

‘So many tasks tonight!’

“You picked this watch?”

Although the young man had lost his memory, he must have received a good education. He spoke gently, “I found it in the abandoned building in the city center. They say it’s a globally limited edition watch, and these numbers are its ID. The owner should be easy to find. Did anyone report a lost watch recently?”

Big Zhuang, who had turned away, saw Bai Lixin take out the watch and suddenly recalled his dream of “soaring into the sky.” He hurried over, “Yeah, this watch is worth 80 million. If the owner wants to thank the honest finder, could you also give him my information?”

The duty officer originally thought that this watch looked quite high-end. When he heard “80 million”, he was stunned for a moment, and quickly sat down and checked the recent case filing information from the public security website.

The results all went back to two months ago, but he couldn’t find anyone that called the police to report that the watch was lost.

The duty officer took the evidence bag and carefully packed the watch, then pushed a registration form in front of Bai Lixin: “Register on this again, and I will notify you if the owner is found.”

Da Zhuang said anxiously: “And me! The two of us found this watch together. If the owner wants to thank the person who found tit, can you also tell him my information?”

Maybe that big shot will happily give him a thank-you fee of one or two million.

Just thinking about it made him happy, hehehe.

The duty officer saw through Big Zhuang’s intentions but didn’t say anything. He just knocked on the registration form, “You also register your information here.”

Big Zhuang immediately beamed with joy, “Okay.”

A minute later, the duty officer carefully examined the registration forms from the two. When he saw the location where the lost item was found, his expression changed. He looked at the two, “Where did you say you found this watch?”

Big Zhuang: “It’s in the haunted abandoned building in the city center.”

The duty officer scrutinized them, “What were you doing there in the middle of the night?”

Although Big Zhuang felt somewhat embarrassed, he still explained the cause and effect of the matter to the duty officer. However, the ghost incident was too supernatural, so he skipped over it.

The duty officer frowned, a look of disapproval on his face, “You young people are so daring, you really dare to go to any place without fear.”

“You’re lucky you managed to come back.”

Big Zhuang shuddered for a moment but curiosity got the better of him, “Uncle, is that abandoned building really haunted?”

The duty officer: “Whether it’s haunted or not, I dare not say. I’m a police officer, I don’t comment on supernatural matters.”

“Byt a few years ago, quite a number of people died inside that building, all in mysterious ways. At that time, I was still at the city bureau, working as a forensic officer investigating crime scenes alongside the criminal investigation team.”

“Even though the deaths were bizarre, our investigations always concluded they were accidental causes.”

Big Zhuang: “Yeah, I heard it started with a young man hanging himself, and then people from the construction team kept having accidents. The young man who hanged himself even claimed that the developer buried his grandparents in the foundation. I don’t know if that’s true or not.”

The duty officer looked somewhat lost in thought, seemingly caught in memories, “Actually, that young man did file a case. However, he had no concrete evidence; he just suspected a connection between his grandparents’ disappearance and the developer. We later conducted interrogations and investigations on the construction site and the developer’s company and found no link to the disappearance of that elderly couple.”

Big Zhuang: “Why didn’t you just break open the foundation after the report was filed? Wouldn’t that solve it?”

“That’s easy for you to say,” the duty officer gave Big Zhuang a disdainful look, “Do you think police work is magical, that we can just do anything without considering other factors? Although the young man reported the case, evidence is crucial in everything. We need to investigate to determine the truth; it’s not a matter of whoever reports first being right. In our cases, many people falsely report crimes, claiming to be victims’ relatives when, in fact, they are the murderers.”

“Don’t underestimate the dark side of human nature.”

“Until a criminal suspect is confirmed, everyone is protected by our laws.”

“At that time, the building was almost completed, and breaking open the foundation without any evidence was clearly unreasonable. But we weren’t idle, we conducted extensive investigations. Despite various rumors about why that elderly couple refused to move, our investigation revealed that they received double the compensation compared to other relocated households.”

“They received twenty million and after getting the money, they moved out on time without any physical conflicts or verbal disputes. Rather than being forced to leave, they seemed quite happy.”

“There should be motives for murder, and in this case, the developer had no reason to kill people due to relocation disputes. The developer had no motive because they had already resolved the issue with money.”

“But there’s still something strange.”
