Chapter 134: I Have to Say It Loud and Clear~

This whole chapter will be from Chris’ POV.

ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー

“Fufu~ Asking me to hug him… As I thought, Ren-chan is just way too cute~”

My parents went overboard. Maybe they could realize I was feeling anxious that Ren-chan would hate me. That was why they even said something like that to my adorable fiancé?

I guess I need to warn my father and the others for a little bit for my adorable fiancé’s sake, huh?~

With that in mind, I went back to the room.

“…… What is the meaning of this?! Why… Why is His Highness…”

“Mother, even if it wasn’t with His Highness, that kind of attitude is still too much.”

“Shut up! Mauritz! Did you know that person was His Highness?!”

“Well, I’m more or less still a knight and in the city, the portraits of him, Big Brother Chris and Silver Wolf, who was coming with them too, were selling like crazy.”

When I opened the door, I saw my father and my mother had also moved into the room I had been in. They were sitting on the chair that Ren-chan and the others had sat on. My mother was banging the table violently, looking angry at Mauritz who was sitting with her.

My father and Adele-sama, along with Alex and Syuti, had another set of table prepared. They were sitting there while drinking tea.

Ah~ How troublesome~

I didn’t hear anything about my mother being in this kind of state already. My father was sitting on the table while looking at another way. It was clear to see he didn’t have any intention of stopping her since he already knew my mother couldn’t be stopped anyway. It seemed my mother hadn’t noticed my presence yet so I just stood there while leaning against the door, watching the whole spectacle unfolded.

“That’s right. Although I did say that Chris should just make them his paramour, if Chris can get married to His Highness, then that’s great. If that’s the case, the Hast family will be safe, right?”

“If you said that after saying such an unthinkable thing, His Highness would get angry, you know?”

I was shocked to know my mother was saying something stupid again. I had already told her Fer was also Ren-chan’s fiancé, why couldn’t she understand such a simple fact?

Ah, right. My mother wasn’t here earlier… And it doesn’t seem like Mau and the others have explained anything to my mother either.

I took a fleeting glance at my younger siblings and shook my head. It couldn’t be helped. I had to separate myself from the door and went to sit on the chair with my mother to tell her that kind of thinking was dangerous.

“Christian! Just why? You have a good face just like your father and there’s nothing to complain about your social status. Moreover, you’re an excellent adventurer too…”

“What are you talking about when you’re the one who so vehemently prevented me from being an adventurer in the first place…”

When she finally realized I was there, my mother called out to me and said something absurd again. Talking about me being an excellent adventurer… When I finished school at 15 and was determined to leave the house, she was the one who kept on hurling insult after insult to try to stop me. Even after that, everytime we met, she would always tell me to stop being an adventurer and take my seat as the heir instead. When I became an A-ranked adventurer when I was 24, she still told me to stop being an adventurer while my condition was still good.

“Let’s not talk about that now. You and His Highness are friends, right? And so? Are you going to marry His Highness?!”

My mother placed both her hands on the table, leaning her body toward me.

“I’m not. I am friends with His Highness but His Highness loves Ren, so His Highness will marry Ren.”

While it was true Fer was good looking and we got along well but we never saw each other in that kind of light.

“Huh?”

Besides, he wasn’t my type. I was the type who liked to pamper my loved one rotten after all~

And most importantly, the one I wanted to marry was Ren-chan.

“As I told Adele-sama and the others earlier, His Highness and Silver Wolf are Ren’s fiancés too. I believed I’ve specifically told my father that I’m going to enter a polyamorous marriage with Ren as the center of the marriage? So can you explain this, Father?”

She wasn’t here earlier so it was only natural she didn’t know Fer and Sig were both Ren-chan’s fiancés. But, why didn’t my father tell my mother that the marriage would be centered on Ren-chan? I believed I had already told my father that I’d be bringing Ren-chan and Ren-chan’s other fiancés song with us?

Curious, I asked my father about it.

“Well… I…. I already told them that you’re going to bring your fiancé but when I mentioned that your fiancé is an adventurer too….”

“Ah… I understand what you mean.”

In other words, before he could go into the details, my mother already went…

“Fiancé?! And an adventurer too?!”

Before my father could say anything else. My father really couldn’t be stern with my mother and Adele-sama. Just like what she had mentioned in front of Ren-chan and the others, my mother was still trying to make me marry another noble.  Alex already had one child and Syuti already had 2 children so basically Adele-sama already had 3 grandchildren. Her own son, Mau and I, were both still unmarried so of course we still didn’t have any child of our own. Hence why my mother was so adamant in telling us to hurry up and get married.

“But still… An adventurer… I believe Christian deserve someone who’s more than a savage adventurer, you know? The young lady from the Lidholm family would suit Christian perfectly. The madam of the Lidholm family is the younger sister of His Majesty so she’s His Majesty’s niece, which will make you the cousin to the Crown Prince. Besides… If that boy is going to be the center of your marriage, does that mean you will leave the Hast name behind?”

My mother, who just didn’t know how to give up, started mentioning about the daughter of the Lidholm family again since marrying Fer was out of the question. My mother still wanted me to become the heir no matter what so a daughter from a distinguished family would be much better for her. I didn’t have any desire to become the heir but for my mother, having a spouse with a blood connection to the royal family would be more advantageous for me in the battle of succession against my brother.

“I have no intention in marrying anyone but him. About leaving the Hast name behind, I’m not the heir to this family anyway so even if I actually marry him and change my name, there shouldn’t be any problem.”

I believed I had met with that girl before but she was still a baby at that time and so, I declined her suggestion right off the bat. If you responded to her half-heartedly, she’d take your answer in whatever way she liked so you needed to be plain and thorough when refusing her.

Just like what my mother said, when you had chosen someone as the center of your polygamous marriage, it was the same as you choosing their last name as your new name. In other words, I’d become Christian Cleva after I got married to Ren-chan.

Well we haven’t told Ren-chan about this so he wouldn’t know about this~

“You are the eldest son of the Hast family, you know?! How could you say such a thing…”

Mother was outraged to hear my response. Certainly I was the eldest but Alex was only 2 months younger than me. I really never saw myself as his older brother nor saw him as my younger brother. If I may say it myself, I felt we were more like twins instead.

“Alex is already doing an exemplary job as the heir, isn’t he? Mother, you must’ve already realized that it’s going to be awkward for me to be the heir at this point, right?”

Moreover, it had been 15 years since I first left this house, you know? I just couldn’t go and say things like..

“I’m going to stop being an adventurer. As I thought, I want to be the heir instead~”

That was simply unacceptable. There was no way my mother didn’t know it herself. Although my mother was prone to anger and egoistic, she was not by any means stupid.

“But, but…!”

She just couldn’t accept the fact that she wouldn’t be the biological mother of the heir of the family. The Hast family was one of the top five families in this kingdom and considering her old age, it’d be better to become the biological mother to the heir of the family.

“I came here today to inform my family about my engagement and to once again reiterate my decision to not become the heir of the family. I already knew my decision would not be welcomed and to be honest I didn’t have any plan on bringing Ren here even after I got married but… He said he wanted to try to meet with my family even if it’s just once. I brought him here because I want to respect his wishes. Although I don’t know what he thinks of this meeting yet, if you won’t change your attitude regarding our marriage, I will never bring him here again so please, keep that thought in mind.”

“What did you say?!”

“I mean, isn’t it obvious? I can’t bring my spouse near you if there’s even the slightest possibility that you’re going to hurt him.”

Judging from my mother’s attitude today… I doubt Ren-chan will be willing to meet with them again though? There’s no way he wants to meet with my parents when they’re the one who has the nerve to suggest that I take him as my paramour instead when he’s here as my fiancé.

“Are you implying you have no intention of letting me meet with my grandkid even after they’re born?!”

“In the first place, will you even accept our children? I’m going to enter a polygamous marriage with him so there’s a possibility I’m not the biological father of our children, you know? Can you truly love our children even though it’s plain obvious from their appearance alone that they’re not biologically mine? Most grandparents will try to love their grandchildren equally without any discrimination regardless of that but mother, I know that’s not the case with you, right? It’d be bad for my children’s education if you, as their grandmother, shows favoritism to even one of them. I will never let them see you with those facts in mind.”

“……….”

Grandchild? We don’t have the intention to especially make a child from each of us with Ren-chan so we won’t be able to know which child is our in the first place.

Most grandparents would still love their grandchild despite that I couldn’t say the same about my mother. For example, if I had 3… Or maybe 4 children and only one of them looked like me! It was obvious my mother would only love that child and if I wasn’t careful, she might even say she wanted to take that child and raise them as the heir instead.

Let alone denying it, she couldn’t even say anything.

“See? You can’t even deny it, can you? ….. Father, even if you personally don’t have any problem with my marriage, I still won’t let you see him nor my children because you are still my mother’s husband.”

I began to address this issue with my father, who had been quietly watching us on the table next to us.

“Wha-?! But I’m not against your marriage!”

His eyes widened in surprise.

I mean, isn’t it obvious? Even though the two of you got married for political reasons and there’s no love in your marriage, you guys are still husband and wife, you know?

Not against it, huh… For the time being, I will wait and see how things unfold. Of course, there’s still the possibility of us meeting again depending on Ren’s opinion.”

Besides, although he wasn’t against it, he wasn’t for it either.

Well I guess, we will need to wait and see how things go for now, huh?

“…… I understand. We’ve done terrible things to them. Lise, you have a lot of things to reflect about too.”

Father nodded in agreement and turned to mother.

“Yeah….”

Mother nodded back at him, she looked dejected.

To be honest, it was better for father to support mother instead and try to think about how to improve things for the better but the two of them had been married for more than 30 years by now. It was hard for the dynamic in their relationship to change by now.

I didn’t want to have this kind of dynamic with Ren-chan. I wanted to be a couple who could talk about anything and supported each other through thick and thin with Ren-chan.

“Haaah… I guess we’re done with the formalities now? Big brother, why don’t we go to someone’s room and talk with just us siblings? Big Brother Alex and Mau would love to do that too, right?”

Having decided that the conversation was already over, Syuti stood from her chair with a smile on her face as she pulled my arm to make me stand from my seat too. I already had enough of this conversation too and having a relaxed, private conversation with my siblings sounded nice. Alex and Mau also nodded their heads in agreement.

“Syutina! Aren’t you going to talk with your mother? We haven’t seen each other for quite a while too, right?”

Adele-sama called out to Syuti. Right. Ever since Syuti got married, they didn’t have much opportunity to see each other so she must’ve wanted to talk with her daughter now that they had the chance. Well it was still forenoon and it seemed Syuti had also just arrived today so I guess they hadn’t gotten the chance to talk together yet.

“Mother, the reason I’m staying over for today is because I want to talk with my big brother. I can still easily meet you tomorrow. Besides, having my mother and the others along is going to make my big brother feel uncomfortable.”

Since I was a kid, I had this habit that I always unconsciously spoke formally with my father, my mother and Adele-sama too. I couldn’t help myself but I guess Syuti didn’t like that. Hence why she always tried to make us talk with each other without our parents around since we were young.

“Wait, Syutina!

“Mother, we will have lunch together later so we can talk during lunch instead. Well then. Father, Lise-sama, if you will excuse me…”

Syuti dragged me to the door with force and turned her face to Adele-sama. She promised she’d have lunch together with them before she then left the room with me, Mau and Alex.

If it’s until lunch… I guess that means we have about an hour and a half to talk?
