Chapter 66 : New Quest?
—————————————-

It was eight in the morning.

I was walking down the road with the morning sun shining above me. Opening the door to the guild for the first time in three days, I was greeted with the sight of Tord-san sleeping face as he managed the counter.

“Good morning, Tord-san. I heard from Malik-san yesterday that there are some quests for us. Is the quest posted on the bulletin board?”

“Good mornings!~ Yes! They are posted on the bulletin board… We have three A-rank monster subjugation solo quests and one A-rank escort party quest. I think these are the quests you’ve heard about?”

When I greeted him, Tord-san shook his head lightly. Maybe to clear his head from the sleepiness before he greeted me back with his usual excited voice. Tord-san told me the solo quests were all monster subjugation quests. I didn’t have many attack skills so it’d be impossible for me to take these solo quests. I wonder even though the quest was defined as a solo quest, was it still possible for multiple people to take it on together?

“Regarding this solo quest… Is it possible for multiple people to take it? For example if I take it with one other person?”

“Yes, it is possible! Only party quests have a minimum number of people participating. You have to take a party quest in a party, no other way! But for solo quests, there’s no minimum or maximum number of people!”

“I see… Thank you, Tord-san.”

Then I could invite someone to join me. I was hopelessly inexperienced after all so I wanted to take on more quests so I could stack up some experience little by little.

“And what about the party quest one?”

“Yes. It’s supposed to be a party quest for A-rank party but right now there are only two A-rank parties in Pedrel, Ren-san’s 【Luce】and Gianna’s 【Casablanca】but… Gianna-san had taken a quest from this client before and they didn’t get along at all. So you can say only 【Luce】 eligible for this quest.”

“Ooh…”

In the first place, there were about 50 A-rank adventurers registered to the guild. Since this quest required multiple A-rank adventurers to complete, does that mean this quest is a dangerous one?

I also wondered what kind of person the client was since they didn’t get along with Gianna-san…But if we didn’t take this quest, no other party left could take it. The client would be troubled if no one took it…

Should I try to talk about this with Fer-san, Chris-san and Sig-san first?

“I see… Thank you, Tord-san. I will discuss this with Chris-san and the others before I decide to take this quest. I will see you soon then.”

“Okay~ I’ll be waiting for youuu~”

The last time I saw Tord-san, he was a little gloomy but today he looked as cheerful as ever. As I thought, being highly spirited suits Tord-san more.

I went to the fifth floor to meet with Chris-san and the others.

But… Really… Why did they have to get a room on the top floor…?

The people staying here were all adventurers and generally speaking, they were physically well built with big, strong limbs so walking up all these stairs wouldn’t pose any trouble for them. But not for me though, these stairs were pretty steep for me.

“If I’m not wrong, Fer-san’s stays in the room closest to the stairs… Fer-san, can I come in?”

I stood in front of a room with the number 503. I knocked lightly while calling for Fer-san.

“Yes. The door is not locked, Ren-kun.”

Hearing Fer-san’s reply from the inside, I opened the door and went inside.

Fer-san was standing with his back turning to me. I could see he was already finished preparing for today. He had a magic bag in the form of a dark brown pouch wrapped around his waist.

“Good morning, Ren-kun. Have you taken a look at the bulletin board?”

Fer-san turned around when he realized I was already inside. The morning sun cascading over his form as he smiled at me. He walked toward me and patted my head as he greeted me.

“Good morning, Fer-san. I haven’t but I’ve asked Tord-san about the quests Malik-san mentioned.”

“I see… Well for the time being, let’s go pick up the other two and then we will head downstairs for breakfast?”

Really. I wonder why the people in Alsar liked to pat my head? I felt like my head had been patted a lot ever since I came here. Maybe because I was smaller than them so I became an easy target to pat?

“Yes.”

Fer-san took my hand into him and the two of us left the room together.

“I’ll call Sig myself. Ren-kun, can you please call Chris for me?”

“Okay, Fer-san.”

“…. Sig? Are you awake?”

I heard Fer-san calling for Sig-san as I walked a little further down the hall. I knocked on door 501, the room where Chris-san was staying.

“Chris-san? Are you already awake?”

“Mmh~ I’m awake~ Good morning…”

“Good morning. You’re already ready to go today, huh.”

As soon as I called for Chris-san, the door opened with a clunk sound, revealing the sight of Chris-san’s enchanting smile. I felt a little relieved to see Chris-san wasn’t naked today. He was already fully dressed instead.

“Fufu~ Do you feel a little sad I’m already wearing clothes?~”

Chris-san must’ve read my thoughts from my expression. He was grinning from ear to ear and leaning against the doorframe as he teased me.

“Wha-?! That’s not it! Come on, let’s go now!”

“Okay, okay~”

I immediately turned my back to him and walked away but Chris-san must’ve already seen my cheeks flaming red from his teasing. The fact that Chris-san wouldn’t stop giggling proved that I was right about it.

“Oi, Ren. Morning.”

“Sig-san, good morning.”

“Your face is so red. Did Chris-san tease you?”

Sig-san said as soon as he saw my face.

“Uuuuh….”

Sig-san’s room was next to Chris-san so it only took us another few seconds to get to Sig-san’s room. This short distance was not enough to make my blush go away yet. I turned my head away to hide it in embarrassment.

“There, there… We’re going to talk about the quest, right? Let’s go downstairs and have a meal while we talk. Come on, Ren-kun.”

“Okay…”

Fer-san gently stroked my head and slung his arm over my shoulder to lead me while Chris-san and Sig-san followed us from behind. When we arrived at the first floor, the three of them escorted me toward a table in the dining area. They pulled a chair for me to sit on as if it was a natural thing to do for them.

“Ren-kun, have you already eaten today?”

“Ah, yes. I will just have a drink today too.”

Just like before, the three of them ordered a meal for them and a drink for me. I was sipping on my orange juice as I relayed the info I got from Tord-san regarding the quest to them. Thankfully by this time, the blush already disappeared from my cheeks so I was able to talk with them normally.

“ーーーIt’s a solo quest but I was wondering if I could have someone tag with me…”

“But Ren-chan, I caught a glimpse of the quest on the bulletin board yesterday and I think the destination for the solo quests might be a little bit hard for you…”

“Oh? Is that so?”

I turned to the three of them for help but Chris-san said it might be too difficult for me. Well, I haven’t taken a look at the quest properly yet so…

“Ah… Chris is right. For one of the quests, you need to go through a steep mountain. You can’t take Oscar and the others with you since the road is too narrow for them. It takes a lot of time to reach the monster’s spot so it’d be difficult for Ren since you don’t have much stamina. Same with the other two so for this time, just leave the quests to us.”

“That’s right. Since there’s three quests, we can take one quest each.”

“Theeeen~ Each of us will go separate way then~ How about if we take turn taking Ren-chan for a date while we wait?~”

Since the three of them were an experienced adventurer, what they were talking about must be right. If I forced myself to go with them, I’d be a burden instead… I guess I had to step down for now… And in the meantime… Date, huh… That actually sounds fun…

“I understand. Then what about the party quest?”

“It’s an escort quest to Lasserna. It’s a ten days round trip. The departure date is between 10th to 15th July. We can take the quest anytime we want as long it’s within the departure date. It’s a pretty easy quest.”

Fer-san explained.

“Lasserna?”

I’ve never heard of that place. Since it took 10 days to go back and forth that meant that place was even further than Calhea.

“Yes. Calhea Plains and Baunov Village are located north of Pedrell while Lasserna is located south of Pedrell, the opposite of Calhea and Baunov. The roads are well maintained and usually there’s no dangerous spot along the way so either C or B-rank adventurers should be more than enough. Well actually there’s a stagecoach that goes from this town to Lasserna so usually people don’t need to hire an escort in the first place.”

“And yet, this is an A-ranked quest and the client more or less already has our party, Luce, in their eyes.?”

According to Fer-san’s explanation, there shouldn’t be any need to hire an escort then why did the client ask for us?

“Are you really that concerned?”

“Well if there’s something fishy going on, the guild won’t accept the quest so I think there shouldn’t be any problem but… What do you guys think? Should we take it?”

Maybe the client was the overly anxious type? The guild already verified the client’s identity first before accepting the quest so generally speaking, there was rarely any trouble from the quest you took from the guild.

I wouldn’t need to worry about getting tangled up in a crime or anything illegal and Lasserna was a new place for me since I rarely ever go outside of Pedrell. To tell you the truth, I was a little curious…

“I don’t know if it’s alright to take the quest when we have a doubt regarding it but I’ve never been to Lasserna before so if possible, I want to go there. Of course, I will still do the quest properly.”

“Then shall we take it?~”

“Let’s take it then.”

“It’s decided, let’s go to the reception desk after we finish eating, ‘kay?”

I wonder whether it’d be alright to take the quest even though we weren’t so sure about it? But… I couldn’t help but to get excited since I could finally take on a new quest.

After we finished eating, we went to the reception desk and had Tord-san register each of them for the solo quests while I applied for the party quest. The requested departure date we put was 11th of July. The blueprint for the house should be already finished by then and if there wasn’t anything worthwhile going on, the three of them said they would be able to finish the solo quest in one day.

I’m looking forward to the date I would be having with the three of them before 11th July.
