“【Clean】Fuuh… Being inside a tent feels a lot cooler than being outside.”
“You’re right… I wish the air outside could feel this cool…”
After the three of them returned, I cast [Clean] all over our body before we entered the tent. The temperature inside the tent was regulated with magic hence why being inside the tent felt so much cooler compared than being outside. Only good quality tents had this temperature regulation system so I really needed to thank Malik-san for this tent.
I was sweating and sticky from the summer heat but thanks to [Clean], my body felt so refreshed. Magic was really convenient but still… I still wanted to take a bath if I could…When we’ve arrived at Laserna, I will definitely take a bath to my heart’s content!
“Today Chris-san and Sig-san will be keeping guard but we still have another turn tomorrow, right?”
“Yup. Tomorrow Luce has two turns. The first and the last shift. Ren-chan, do you want to keep watch together with me tomorrow?~”
“No, no. Come with me instead.”
So tomorrow we got two shifts… There were eight people in the guard team which made four pairs and Luce had four people which made for two pairs. We had five shifts everyday that meant there was one pair free from guard duty.
Both Sig-san and Chris-san, who were on guard duty tonight, asked me to stand guard with them but… What should I do? I didn’t want to choose between them…
Ah! I haven’t taught them about that yet.
“Umm… There’s this simple method on how to sort people into groups that I used to do back in my old world when I was a kid but…”
“That sounds great, isn’t it? If neither Sig or Chris would cave in, I was thinking of deciding it through the lottery but if there’s a simpler method, please do tell us.”
“I taught you guys how to play rock-paper-scissors, didn’t I? It’s like that but we only use rock and paper here. People who take out the same symbol will be grouped together. If there are three or four people using the same symbol, we need to start over again until we have two pairs. The chant used to start the game varies from region to region but we can use something easy to say like… 『rock, paper, split up!』I think…”
I told them I would be teaching them a simple method to make pairs. I think this game was easy enough to understand and you didn’t need any tools either.
Regarding the chant, I’ve had always used 『rock, paper, split up!』. All the neighborhood kids I used to play with always used that chant too but the people from other cities used different chants than us. I remember watching it on the television. I was surprised since I didn’t think there was another chant than the one I used. Though it was interesting to know the different chants used in other cities.
“Okay then! No hard feelings whatsoever here!”
Sig-san exclaimed.
「「「「Rock, paper, split up!」」」」
“…. What the… With Fer again?~”
“I can’t help it. I take that out of habit after all.”
From other people’s perspective, the sight of four adults sitting together inside a tent while doing another form of rock-paper-scissors to make pairs with a serious look on their face must’ve looked incredulous…
I took out rock and turned out Fer-san also took rock out while both Chris-san and Sig-san took paper out. Chris-san and Sig-san were frustrated with the result but since there was no underhanded trick used in this round, they couldn’t ask for a do-over.
“Haaa… Well, it can’t be helped I guess.”
Sig-san said.
“It’s a little bit too late to sleep now so we’re going to stay up until our shift. You two can just go and sleep, okay?~”
Chris-san said.
“No, 20.00 is too early for me to sleep too… I will also stay up with you guys until it’s time for you to go.”
Although the sky was already dark, it was still 20.00. It was still too early for me so after deciding I’d stay up with them, the four of us talked about our future plans to kill time until 22.00. After sending Chris-san and Sig-san off, I went to bed with Fer-san. I clearly remembered I was being hugged by Fer-san when I went to sleep but the next morning, I found myself being surrounded by Sig-san and Chris-san while Fer-san was sleeping on the corner. I wonder what happened while I was sleeping…?
Then on the second day of our trip, I was standing guard with Fer-san.
On the third day, I was paired with Sig-san. The night passed without any incident. Everything was peaceful.

“It’s the fourth day already… At this rate, we will be able to reach Laserna without any hassle.”
“That’s right… But I heard there were some bandit cases near the roads we’re going to pass by today so it’s best if we keep our guard up today.”
“Yes. 【Magic Barrier】… Okay, let’s go now.”
“Yup~ Ren-chan~ C’mere~”
We managed to hit the fourth day without any monster or bandit attack. We were eating breakfast when Fer-san reminded us to be extra careful before we continued our trip today.
Today might be the most important day on this trip. I needed to pull myself together…
After applying [Magic Barrier] to all members of Luce, I asked Chris-san to help me up so I could get on William’s back.
“Okay, let’s go!”
With Mel-san’s enthusiastic shout, we began to move.

“We’re under attack! Ren! Hurry and cast [Barrier] around the carriage! Then cast [Purify] on all members of the guard team! And lastly, please give us some buff!”
“Y-Yes! 【Barrier】!”
It was almost evening and we were close to our campsite for tonight too. As we were running through a road surrounded by a rugged rock wall, the horse ridden by the guard team in front of me fell to the ground like a puppet with broken strings. As a result of the horse falling down, the guard riding it got thrown to the ground with a loud thud.
It hadn’t hit me yet but Sig-san, who was sitting behind me, suddenly jumped down from Oscar and pulled his greatsword from his back. His shout brought me back into motion, I quickly cast [Barrier] around the carriages while still riding on Oscar.
“【Purify】!”
I immediately cast another magic, [Purify], on all members of the guard team who were struck with paralysis. I scanned the condition of the guard team. Although they had fallen from their horse, none of them were seriously injured. They promptly rose to their feet as soon as the paralysis was lifted from their body.
“Huh? How are those guys able to stand like that?”
“Oi! Have you properly cast the paralyzing magic on them?!”
“Yeah… Maybe there’s someone who can use support magic among them…”
“Oh well. We have more people on our flank so there shouldn’t be any problem.”
Men with swords and bludgeons came out from behind the rocks on either side of the road. They approached us while talking animatedly between themselves.
Those must be the bandits…
Their clothes were dirty and they had a vulgar looking smirk on their face. It made me wonder how many days had passed since they last used [Clean]…
The bandits were surprised to see we weren’t affected with the [Paralyze] but they didn’t seem the least bothered. They were taking their time walking toward us while licking their lips. There was one person with a staff. I guess that must be the person with paralyzing magic.
“…【Haste】【Might】【Shield】【Magic Barrier】”
I gave some buff to everyone while being careful of my voice so the bandit wouldn’t hear me. I added [Magic Barrier] just in case the bandit might try to cast [Paralyze] on us again. It’d be terrible if someone were to fall because of [Paralyze]. I still haven’t cast [Purify] for the people in the carriages so I needed to find the right timing to heal them…
“Hey, hey, you lot? There’s at least one beautiful lass inside that carriage, right? If you leave the carriages and that beautiful black haired lad with us, we will spare your life, you know?”
One of the bandits, who already shortened his distance between us to about 5 meters, said that while staring at me as if he was trying to appraise my price. I had goosebumps all over my body as he kept his lecherous gaze on me while making an audible slurping sound with his thick tongue.
GROSS GROSS GROSS!! HE’S SUPER DISGUSTING!!
I literally had shivers run down my spine when he laughed like ‘hehehehe’.
“Stop fooling around. What kind of fool would offer their lovely fiancé to a filthy bum like you? You guys are the bandits that have been attacking the carriages here, right? …. Then I won’t hold myself back!”
Fer-san said as he stared at the bandits with a chilling gaze. In a second, Fer-san launched himself toward the nearest bandit and slashed the bandit with his sword.
