Chapter 60: Twins — Do you believe in the supernatural?

Ye Zhen Zhen walked toward Ye Hong Sheng’s room and subconsciously paused before the door.

“We are still investigating the truth of Li Jia Jia’s adoption. It’s strange for housekeeper Zhou not to know you are twins. We’re trying to find the obstetrician during that time, but she had already retired. It might take some more time.”

Zuo Yi’s voice suddenly echoed in her ear, causing her brows to crease slightly. She came to the Ye Mansion this time simply to grab some clothes and credentials, but when she saw the tightly closed door to Ye Hong Sheng’s room, she couldn’t help but walk forward.

She also didn’t know what she was looking for, but she had a premonition that what she sought was behind this door.

The state of the Ye Mansion was completely different from when she had left. Without housekeeper Zhou and Wang Er Gou to take care of the management, there was even a thin layer of dust covering the door handle. Even though it was broad daylight, the room felt void-like. Moreover, since two people died here previously, this kind of psychological residue made the sunlight filtering in through the window seem even more sinister than moonlight at night.

Ye Zhen Zhen was a person firmly following the philosophy of materialism, but this did not at all hinder her cowardice. During the time she had stayed in the Ye Mansion, she had never entered Ye Hong Sheng’s room. Now…if she had known earlier, she would have waited for tomorrow when Dr. Ji was off work, so he could accompany her.

Because they were eating with Dr. Ji’s parents tomorrow, she had chosen to come here to grab some clothes. Now, however, she was stumped by Ye Hong Sheng’s room due to some irrelevant matters.

Ye Zhen Zhen somewhat wanted to cry.

To enter or not, that was the question.

In the end, her resolution to explore and find the truth prevailed over the fear in her heart. She was a courageous young lady.

Pushing the door open with a bit of force, Ye Zhen Zhen sucked in a breath of air when the door opened with a ka–la—.

Ye Hong Sheng’s room had a large window directly facing the garden. He frequently stood there and gazed into the distance, so Wang Er Gou had taken care of that portion of the garden with the utmost care. The flowers there bloomed year-round.

Now, however, due to the blistering hot weather and the lack of watering, the flowers had all withered.

Behind her, the door remained ajar. A gust of cool air blew in, sending a chill down Ye Zhen Zhen’s spine. There was a ka–la—, and the door behind her suddenly slammed shut. Alarmed, Ye Zhen Zhen nearly shouted for help.

She felt her legs weaken somewhat, but she did not dare turn around. She could only rely on her memory of the room’s layout as she took a few stumbling steps. If her luck was good, she might find herself sitting on the leather chair beside the desk.

The God of Luck seemed to not care for her, however, as the split second she raised her head, she bump it against the bookcase. This bump was not light. A few crisp, beautiful sounds of something being struck rung out.

Ye Zhen Zhen howled in grief, her eyes glistening with tears as she clutched the back of her head and crouched in front of the bookcase. The dull ache at the back of her head was too painful and made her temporarily forget her fears.

Pa–ta— An archaic book fell down behind her. Ye Zhen Zhen’s eyes widened slightly. She definitely hadn’t opened the bookcase, so where did this book fall from?

This time, she really wanted to call for help.

That yellowed book laid motionless on the ground, like a beauty waiting for fortune to befall her.

Although Ye Zhen Zhen’s heart was a chaotic mess because of this, she couldn’t tear her gaze away from the book cover. Only a title was written on the cover——

【Record of the Ye Ancestor’s Instructions】

Her heart suddenly jumped into her throat, throbbing as loudly as rolling thunder. Ye Zhen Zhen pursed her lips, but had yet to reach out to open the book.

Again, a cold breeze came in out of nowhere and lightly flipped through the pages—hualala. The first entry was laid out open in front of her.

One must not think that everyone who lived in a mountain village far from the bustling city would hold science in esteem.

The first entry of Record of the Ye Ancestor’s Instructions only had three words: twins are demons.

Because of the Ye family’s genetics, the family would give birth to a pair of twins every so often. In the eyes of the Ye Ancestors, they were demons; one of the twin must be extinguished.

As for how, each era would have its own method. During Ye Hong Sheng’s case, he clearly gave one away to be fostered.

Ye Zhen Zhen felt her heart clench. It was undoubtedly one of the hottest periods of the summer, as her back was already exuding a fine layer of cold sweat.

Pressed in between the pages was a bookmark, but only a tiny corner was exposed. That spotlessly white color was a stark contrast to the yellowed book pages. A single glance revealed this to be a product of this era.

Ye Zhen Zhen reached out with her right hand, but as she went to pull out that bookmark, she realized that her hand unexpectedly couldn’t stop trembling minutely.

Steadying her mind, Ye Zhen Zhen pulled out the bookmark. Written on top with black ink was a line in small print, seemingly in Ye Hong Sheng’s handwriting.

——When you meet someone who is exactly the same in looks, disasters begin.

In a split second, a lantern lit up within her mind as several things came together. Ye Zhen Zhen sat there on the floor for a while before finally getting up.

She went to the kitchen to try and find something that could be used a brazier. She tore out every page from Record of the Ye Ancestor’s Instruction about twins and threw it into the brazier along with the bookmark. Then, using a lighter, she set it all aflame.

Burning Record of the Ye Ancestor’s Instructions, her ancestors wouldn’t curse her, right… No, no, she was a firm believer of materialism.

Ye Zhen Zhen tightly clenched her fists until she saw that the pages and bookmarks were completely burnt to ash. She then placed the remnants and stuffed it back into the bookcase before grabbing her luggage and leaving the Ye Mansion.

When she returned home, Ji Zhe Yan hadn’t come back. Ye Zhen Zhen had just unpacked her things when she received a call from Zuo Yi.

He said they had found the obstetrician from the hospital of that year, but she had already transformed into another being in this world.

Ye Zhen Zhen glanced at the photo of the public cemetery Zuo Yi had sent and suddenly felt her hair stand on end.

He said she had just died a few months ago from an illness. Unfortunately, all the medical personnel that had participated in the delivery during that time were now no longer working at the hospital or were unaccounted for. The police probably wouldn’t continue searching.

Ye Zhen Zhen expressed her understanding, and after Zuo Yi apologized again, the phone call ended.

The truth about that time was already out of reach. Did her parents even know she had a twin?

Ye Zhen Zhen’s head suddenly ached. She didn’t want to continue delving into this matter and went back to her room to lay in bed——Although her relationship was already like that with Dr. Ji, they still spent the majority of the nights sleeping separate.

When she woke up in a daze, Ye Zhen Zhen saw Ji Zhe Yan sitting beside her. He was giving her a somewhat helpless gaze, but his solemn expression made Ye Zhen Zhen think that he was angry.

“Dr. Ji…”

The hoarse voice leaving her mouth startled Ye Zhen Zhen. Ji Zhe Yan grabbed the ice bag on her forehead and then bowed to give her a kiss on the cheek. “Gou Dan’er, how come you have a fever? Isn’t there a saying that fools don’t get sick?”

Ye Zhen Zhen thinned her lips and used all her might to wrap her arms around Ji Zhe Yan’s neck. Ji Zhe Yan matched her, his arms embracing her waist. His body practically melded into hers. Ye Zhen Zhen, satisfied, hugged his neck and kissed him. “Dr. Ji, I heard that it’s best to sweat out a fever.”

……

Ji Zhe Yan felt really helpless this time. Ye Zhen Zhen’s face was slightly flushed due to a low fever. Her entire body was far softer than usual, and her two round eyes were glistening like gems as she innocently looked into his own.

Basically, her appearance made him unable to resist devouring her.

Ji Zhe Yan turned over and pulled the blanket up. He stared at Ye Zhen Zhen beneath him and tenderly stroked her still burning hot cheek.  “But are you able to bear it?”

“As long as it’s Dr. Ji!” Ye Zhen Zhen replied, a hundred percent certain, and even nodded as well. She hugged Ji Zhe Yan’s waist and restlessly grinded down.

Ji Zhe Yan’s brows furrowed. He grabbed Ye Zhen Zhen’s hands around his shoulders and tightened his grip slightly. He licked at Ye Zhen Zhen’s somewhat chapped lips, his voice dropping into a husky timbre. “If you’re feeling unwell, push me away.”

“Mn…” Ye Zhen Zhen closed her eyes and felt his body envelop her as she was pulled into an endless, heavy kiss.

Because Ye Zhen Zhen’s health was being taken into consideration, Ji Zhe Yan did not take his time. Quickly embracing her close and taking her temperature, he discovered her fever had miraculously retreated.

Ye Zhen Zhen leaned into his chest and laughed softly. “If I have a fever in the future, Dr. Ji will be my fever reducer.”

#Guaranteed to cure all diseases, Indigowoad Root—wait, no—Dr. Ji# 1

Ji Zhe Yan: “…”

He hugged this soft body closer and punitively nibbled on her red lips. “If you have a fever again, you’ll have to run around the neighborhood ten times. This will make you sweat more.”

Ye Zhen Zhen groaned in discontent and laid motionless atop Ji Zhe Yan’s body.

Ji Zhe Yan eyed the lazily resting body atop his chest and pinched her waist. “What did you come across when you returned to the Ye Mansion?”

“Nothing…”

“Then how come you suddenly contracted a fever?”

“I don’t know either…”

The two of them fell silent for a moment before Ye Zhen Zhen suddenly asked, “Dr. Ji, do you believe in the supernatural?”

Ji Zhe Yan was startled. He looked at her and stated, “I am a doctor.”

Ye Zhen Zhen laughed again and moved closer to kiss him on the mouth twice. “Mn, I don’t believe too.”

This intimate position made it difficult to avoid sparking something more. Ji Zhe Yan sensed a flame within his body begin to stir, so he turned over, got out of bed, and put on clothes with lightning speed. “I’ll go make dinner. You can rest for a while.” Kissing Ye Zhen Zhen’s cheek, Ji Zhe Yan hurriedly left the bedroom.

Ye Zhen Zhen stared up at the ceiling and closed her eyes, feeling dizzy.

Everything proceeded smoothly, whether it was Ji Zhe Yan’s parents or inheriting Ye Hong Sheng’s inheritance.

Ye Zhen Zhen gave Lawyer Qian the company stocks set aside for her by Ye Hong Sheng to have him manage it for her. After accepting Kenisni Manor and the Ye Mansion, Ye Zhen Zhen donated the rest of the cash to the newly established Ye Hong Sheng Charity Foundation.

This news became the headlines the very next day and forced the rest of the rich folks in A City to jump on board and donate as well, in order to contribute bricks and tiles to serving the public of A City.

Ye Zhen Zhen amassed a huge reputation in A City during this time, but this person currently in the limelight was now wholeheartedly worried about another matter——would she have enough money, after donating so much, to buy the course credits she needed to graduate?
