After Andrea’s questioning, I chose to shamelessly push forward. I spoke with an innocent look as if I knew nothing, but my eyes hinted at a bit of malice in them.

“Sir, do you know me?”

“It’s not like that” he replied.

Andrea placed his hand on his chest and bowed slightly.

“Would anyone in the Melian Empire not know Sir Del Narcissus?”

“But everyone in the empire knows me only as the character in rumors. I am different from the real me.”

So, even if you insist that I’ve changed, it only amounts to judging people based on mere rumors. Andrea smiled as if finding it amusing.

“Maybe so.”

Of course, he used guild members to observe every move of Del Narcissus, even knowing his specific daily life. Perhaps he knew more about ‘Del Narcissus’ than I did.

But even so, That does not mean in front of this assassin, I can say “I am the soul that has taken possession of the body of the man you secretly love. If I reach 100 favorability in platonic love without any sexual relationship with one of the male candidates, I’ll leave. Isn’t it impossible to say “please cooperate?”

“I have been rude. Please forgive me,” he apologized smoothly. I deliberately remained silent, turning my head away.

“Well, since I’ve been rude, may I ask one more question?”

He smiled like a captivating devil.

“How is Max doing?”

I stared at Andrea without responding. How would I know who Max is? Is he someone important to Del Narcissus? No, perhaps it’s just a dog’s name. Or it could be a name that popped out of the fog. By mentioning unfamiliar information and pretending to know it, is a classic trap to see if the other person was lying.

I stood up, pushing the chair back with annoyance. My ankle ached, but the desire to get out of here was stronger.

“I can’t stand it anymore. I’ll wait for my companions outside. I don’t want to talk with the knight anymore.”

With that, I sarcastically added.

“No, are you really a knight?”

Andrea’s eyebrows twitched at my words.

Damn…

I shot him a poisonous gaze, limping as I moved away. I felt Andrea approaching from behind, but I deliberately ignored it and grabbed the doorknob. However, he was a bit faster. His hand overlapped mine.

I didn’t care and turned the doorknob with force. The door opened, and the chilly atmosphere of the forest surrounded Andrea and me. Andrea still placing his hand on top of mine.

“Your hand feels like freshly baked bread. Warm and soft.”

He whispered playfully into my ear. I looked straight at him, tilting one corner of my mouth, trying to appear as much like ‘Del Narcissus’ as possible.

“Don’t play around with nonsense.”

At my words, Andrea chuckled and let go of my hand. Although the posture of raising both hands in a surrendering manner still seemed playful, his eyes carefully observed me, as if peering into the depths of my soul.

Out of fear, I stepped outside the cabin. Sitting on the stairs a bit away from the cabin, on the polished steps and sat down on my butt.

Andrea was standing inside the cabin with the door open, watching me as if observing prey, his eyes penetrating as if seeing through a person’s innermost thoughts.

I pretended not to notice and raised my gaze upwards. Smoke was rising briskly from the chimney of the cabin.

Please don’t come this way. Don’t ask questions. I’m so fucking scared.

I silently prayed, shielding myself with a stern and guarded expression. That’s when it happened.

“Hey, Mana Vessel!”

In the distance, a redhead was approaching rapidly through the trees. The ginger color was unmistakable, and I completely forgot about my injured ankle as I jumped up from my spot.

“AAh!”

“Hey! What’s wrong?”

Cain, looking surprised from a distance, bent down in front of me in the next moment. It was a teleportation spell.

“Did you hurt your ankle? Geez. I told you to wait quietly and not wander around, but here you are!”

Cain crouched down and carefully wrapped my injured ankle with a bandage.

“Ah, it hurts! Please don’t press it like that!”

“Stay still. I’ll use healing magic.”

He placed his hand on my ankle and muttered something. It seemed like he was casting a healing spell.

I furrowed my brow, placing one hand on Cain’s shoulder for support. It was hard to maintain balance while standing on one foot.

Lifting my head was an unconscious movement. I twisted my body to find balance, and in doing so, I raised my head. In the back, Andrea, who had been standing behind Cain, caught my gaze. He was now standing behind Cain, adopting a somewhat awkward posture, as if he had rushed forward and suddenly stopped…

Wait…Did you run out because I screamed?

When that thought crossed my mind, Andrea lifted the corners of his mouth and smiled as if nothing had happened. Then, he turned around and walked back into the cabin without closing the door. I stared blankly at the inside of the cabin.

“Hey, its done. Try moving your ankle.”

Cain spoke from below. I absentmindedly looked at my ankle while Cain asked, “Does it hurt?”

“Yeah, it hurts.”

“…..”

“Hey! are you sick?!”

“Yes?”

Cain stood up and placed his hand on my forehead.

“You have a mild fever. Your condition doesn’t look good.”

He clicked his tongue and grabbed my shoulders.

“It would be more convenient and better to go through the teleportation circle, but we have to go now. Well, I’ve got enough mana stones.”

He said that and then closed his eyes. I sensed that he was about to use teleportation magic.

“Wait…!”

Before I could stop him, a flash of red light covered my vision. The brightness made me reflexively close my eyes, and when I opened them again, I was already inside Cain’s room. It was a large room with a big bed, piles of books and papers scattered around, various glass containers with dangerous-looking liquids, and potions of different colors. The air felt warm, almost stifling.

Cain, easily laid me on the bed as if handling a baby. Then, in the blink of an eye, he untied the bandage that was wrapped around my ankle. The perfectly tied ribbon that Andrea had done disappeared with a single gesture.

“It looks clean on the outside.”

Cain said, turning my ankle around. As he spoke, my ankle didn’t hurt at all. The swelling was gone, and the skin was white and smooth. The effect was even better than divine power.

“Looks like it’s all better now.”

I said in a daze. Cain chuckled.

“Hey, do you know healing magic is the most challenging among all spells? You’re alive thanks to me.”

He boasted, pinching his nose. I couldn’t help but laugh at how he sounded like a child showing off.

“At least get some rest. You can’t help having a fever since your foot was sprained. You’ll feel better after sleeping.”

Saying that, Cain made me drink various potions. Without knowing what was what, I obediently swallowed them like a baby. After that, he covered me with a blanket using his strong hands.

“Sleep for a bit. When you wake up, we’ll figure out how your ankle got hurt. Then, I’ll give you your own room. According to the rules, you should use the dormitory on the 2nd floor, but I’ll give you a room on the 99th floor as a special privilege of the Magic Lord.”

He enthusiastically talked about how great it was to have a room on the 99th floor. I covered myself with the blanket, feeling the energy of the medicine circulating in my body, and closed my eyes.

I would probably meet Andrea Sloane again soon. He was one of the male protagonists in this game and had a high favorability for me. Maybe at that time, he would discover my true identity and try to kill me. But… even when he suspected me, he rushed out like an arrow when he saw me in pain. Would someone like that really kill me?

“I wouldn’t do anything that would harm you, Mage.”

Amidst Cain’s babbling, Andrea’s voice echoed faintly and dispersed. Yeah, everyone just leave me alone. I just want to live peacefully. Slowly, the waves of consciousness engulfed me, and I fell into a deep sleep.

***

“Is there something wrong with him?”

“It’s perfectly fine. You said you used healing magic yourself. Don’t you trust your own skills?”

“Hey, thats because he’s not waking up!”

Cain and Heron’s noisy conversation pierced my head like a sharp noise. I groaned, scrunching my eyebrows. Someone’s cold hand gently patted my cheek to prevent it from hurting.

“Hey, Mana Vessel, are you awake?”

“Ugh… Ugh…”

“What?”

“Ugh…”

I closed my mouth and lowered my head. I couldn’t open my mouth.

“It seems like we need to let him sleep more.”

Heron pulled Cain aside and said. Cain wrinkled his forehead arrogantly. It seemed he was still questioning why my condition wasn’t improving.

And then… I wasn’t sleepy or in pain. Rather, I came to my senses. Because…

“What’s this?!”

Because there was a tiny capsule-sized cylindrical lump of metal under my tongue.
