The employees mentioned that such incidents happen often. Magic circles are like very delicate and precise formulas, so if even one thing is off, the destination can change.

He seemed to have experienced such situations casually and generously offered to cover accommodation expenses at an inn connected to the office, allowing me to stay overnight. He assured me that he would fix the magic circle tomorrow and send me back to the original destination.

“Tomorrow?”

“Yes, we need a magician to fix the magic circle, and our magician has a scheduled checkup tomorrow.”

“What time tomorrow?”

The time limit was 24 hours, and it was until 10 AM tomorrow. When I urgently and anxiously asked, the employee straightened up. As soon as he realized the urgency of my situation, it seemed like he detected a potential problem.

“But he’ll definitely come by 10 AM tomorrow.”

“No! Can’t he come earlier? If I leave at 10 AM, I’ll be in big trouble. I’ll lose my hair and everything.”

“Well? Um, I’ll try contacting the magician. Considering the magician’s personality, he might not come unless it’s the agreed-upon time.”

This was not good. If the magician didn’t come before 10 AM, I would face all those penalties at once and probably end up in a miserable state. I couldn’t die so foolishly. How did I manage to survive until now?

My complexion must have looked terrible because the employee scratched his forehead and took out another bead from a drawer. It was a communication bead. As he infused mana into it, the bead glowed purple. He turned to me and quickly whispered something to the bead. Even through the bead, I could sense the person’s voice. Although I couldn’t make out the details, the tone seemed agitated, as if questioning why they had to do something.

I leaned over the counter, facing the window.

“Excuse me! Can I say something? I’ll kneel down and beg. I’ll pay you money. I don’t have it right now, but once I arrive… Oh! And I have a treasure from the prestigious Duke’s family. I’m also friends with Magic Tower Lord! Do you know Magic Tower Lord, magician? I can introduce you!”

The employee looked at me pitifully as I desperately shouted. He spoke to the bead.

“Did you hear that? How urgently he’s boasting. Can’t you just come once?”

-Well, even if I wanted to go, I can’t! I’m brewing a potion with a piece of a dragon’s heart right now! Do you know how precious and dangerous this ingredient is? It could explode while I’m away for a moment! Not only my house, but the whole village could fly away!

The employee frowned at me. It seemed like he was expressing with his facial muscles that there was nothing he could do.

Why would anyone make a potion that could make an entire village fly away in the first place?

“Well, then, I’ll go to where the magician is! You just teleport me from there. I’ll pay you double, no, triple the transportation fee!”

Since Cain or Andrea has a lot of money, borrowing a bit should be fine. For now, returning was urgent.

The ticket for using the teleportation magic circle was 50 silver, quite expensive. The magician seemed hesitant at the offer of triple payment, and there was a moment of silence. After a while, the bead conveyed the magician’s acceptance.

-It will take about 6 hours if you ride a horse at full speed. When you get here, I’ll draw the teleportation magic circle for you.

Although I hesitated at the idea of riding a horse, now was not the time to argue. Despite knowing that the magician wouldn’t see, I bowed repeatedly as I thanked him.

“Thank you! I’ll see you later!”

Instead of giving the accommodation expenses, the employee refunded the transportation fee to me.

With the 50 silver I received, I rushed to the nearest carriage rental station from the office. Renting a horse was done in haste. When I explained that I wasn’t good at riding, the employee there kindly provided a gentle and old horse. He assured me that there wouldn’t be a problem with riding.

Almost as if the employee was cradling and lifting me, I mounted the horse. Remembering the time when I rode a horse with Andrea, I gently pulled the reins, and the horse began to walk slowly.

“To ride faster, hit the horse’s flank!”

The employee shouted from behind.

“Sorry, horse. Please, go faster.”

With guilt, I lightly tapped the horse’s flank with my two feet, and the horse really started running.

“Whoa!”

I screamed strangely as I ran with the horse. Unlike when I rode with Andrea, my upper body was unstable, and my lower body also felt numb. But I couldn’t stop. Even if it was supposed to take 6 hours at full speed, it could take me anywhere from 8 to 10 hours.

The magician lived in a small rural village at the edge of this city, and it was a quiet countryside. He mentioned that it would take a long time to come to the city unless he teleported himself because of the small population and the remote location.

Why are there so many magicians who hate people? Don’t they know that they live in the same world?

I silently cursed the social skills of magicians and did my best to stay on the horse. It was noon. Even if I arrived as quickly as possible, it would already be night.

I have to endure without eating and hold off going to the bathroom. I’ll ride as if my life depends on it.

However, after a few hours, I realized how ignorant this thought was. I realized the obvious fact that, while I could endure not eating and going to the bathroom, the horse couldn’t. The old and gentle horse gradually slowed down, and within a mile, it didn’t move at all. Its legs seemed sore, and it looked hungry.

“Horse, let’s go! Hyah! Run! Hey!”

Even when I kicked its flank or pulled the reins, the horse didn’t budge. Despite putting all my strength into urging it, it stood firmly. Eventually, I had to tie the horse to a tree and run to the nearby village to buy carrots and sugar. I apologized to the horse, praised it, and tried to calm it down. By the time I returned, two hours had passed.

“It’s still five o’clock, we still have time.”

I consoled myself. The horse, having rested a bit, started running well again. However, not long after, I encountered a wagon blocking the road.

What is this again? Damn it…

Feeling impatient, it seemed like tears were about to come out, but I held back and got off the horse, approaching them like an adult. There was a tense atmosphere among them.

“Hey, why are you blocking the road?”

I grabbed a passing merchant and asked. With an awkward sigh, as if troubled by the question, he answered.

“Some members of our group got into a fight… They moved to settle it. The remaining few of us are in trouble. We can’t stop those who started the fight, especially the son of the high noble, so we have to endure.”

Whether it’s the son of a noble or not, I need to pass through here now! Anger surged through my face.

“No, even if that’s the case, what about blocking the road like this? How many carriages are there, one, two, three… Five carriages!”

“Oh my, young one, who would want to do this voluntarily? Young people can’t be patient!”

As if releasing the irritation of having his hands tied up in the situation, the merchant went on a rampage. He seemed to direct his frustration towards me.

“Do you know how much we’ve suffered because of that idiot? And now he dares to pick a fight just because he doesn’t like something? Do we have to endure this?”

Continuing to express his issues, as if infuriated with himself.

“Hey, I’m really in a hurry. How about letting just one horse pass? How about making a little space for that? Please?”

I pleaded with both hands together. Although there was still quite some time until 10 AM tomorrow, if I arrived too late, the magician might be asleep or changed his mind and refused to open the door.

Moreover, I still didn’t know how much time it would take to cast the teleportation magic. While Cain could perform instantaneous teleportation if he set his mind to it, the same might not be for others.

“Look at the size of those carriages. Can we make a path? There’s no other way but to leave this spot and go to a wider point up the road.”

And that’s impossible, the merchant added.

I wanted to grab the merchant by the collar and scream, “Why are you so confidently standing here, doing nothing!” But it wasn’t this man’s fault, and it seemed like getting angry wouldn’t change anything. I stared blankly at the blocked road for a while.

Well, it’ll probably take an hour to fight. Two hours maybe? If I wait a bit, they’ll finish their scuffle and move. If the magician says it’s too late, let’s raise the fee five times the amount. It’s not even my money anyway. That’s what I thought.

“Oh, he’s here!”

The merchant pointed ahead and tapped my arm. Indeed, in the distance, a young man with a sword raised high was confidently approaching, followed by men covered in wounds.

Alright, now they’ll move, won’t they? I looked at them with hope.

“Huh? D-Del Narcissus?!”

…Who are you again?
