Angel of the Desert

In the Desert, various tribes formed colonies. They were warriors of the desert, born to endure the grace and hardships of the desert.

Among them, a miracle occurred in a village called Sablum. After a sandstorm swept through the desert, an unbelievably beautiful and noble white angel appeared in the spot where the storm had passed.

The angel had radiant golden hair that shimmered dazzlingly under the scorching sun, with clear milky-white skin. Clothed in nothing but grace, the angel lay there, and the villagers could see the angel’s naked body and no one could dare to think impure thoughts, as the angel’s appearance was as sacred and holy as depicted in paintings. The shine of the sunlight on the sand emitted a halo on the angel.

Then the angel spoke after he woke up.

“Where am I…? Who am I?”

But, shortly after, the angel spoke again.

“My name is Del Narcissus…? Where am I?”

While saying this, the angel waved his hands as if he could see something in front of him..

“Can’t anyone see this? Red letters keep popping up. Am I the only one seeing it?”

…It must be the words of God!

The tribal chief bowed his head in silence, and others either shed tears or fainted upon realizing that an angel had descended upon their village.

Afterwards, the chief declared that the reason for Del Narcissus’s visit to their Sablum was clearly a divine revelation to expand their territory and strengthen the tribe by conquering other tribes.

For the next three months, Sablum conquered all the surrounding tribes, and its influence in the desert grew day by day. The reputation of Sablum rose, thanks to the presence of the desert angel, Del Narcissus, who stood behind them.

The pure white angel, walking out of the sandstorm, heard the words of God. He embodied God’s existence in his very existence. Although Del Narcissus remained silent after revealing his name on the first day, it was no problem.

Every time Del Narcissus appeared, the people of Sablum were moved by his beauty and offered up a prayer of thanks to God. It was Sablum’s main task to sincerely serve the angel who devoted himself to his practice in silence. Del Narcissus brought glory to the tribe by descending upon Sablum, they could never put pressure on him.

And so for over 100 days, Del lived as the angel of the desert, receiving the respect and admiration of the people.

“Sigh…”

A sigh came out of my mouth. Of course, this place was Del’s own accommodation provided by Sablum, and attendants from the outside were waiting at the door, so no one heard.

My name is Del Narcissus. I am the angel of the desert. Even now, whenever I look in the mirror, I am still not used to the jaw-dropping beauty I see whenever I look in the mirror. Sometimes, it felt like someone else’s face or body rather than mine. But that was just my mood, and this beauty was indeed mine.

Three months ago, I woke up in the village called Sablum. My mind was blank, and I had no idea who I was, the words of God appeared before my eyes.

[Penalties will be applied sequentially to Del Narcissus’s body!]

[Penalty: Memory loss]
[Penalty: Disease (hemoptysis, fainting, stamina weakening)]
[Penalty: Baldness]
[Penalty: Insomnia]
[Penalty: Aphasia]
[Penalty: One-year time limit]
[Quest: ‘Must be saved’]

[Quest: Deadline 1 year] Meet at least one male protagonist before the one-year deadline ends!
Reward: Removal of the deadline penalty
Penalty: Death]
[The quest has been automatically accepted!]

I got dizzy from all the red letters rapidly appearing. While I understood that my name was Del Narcissus, I couldn’t understand what the penalties and quests were about. Moreover, I was extremely embarrassed because the people gathered before me suddenly began bowing and crying.

Fortunately, they treated me with great care, calling me ‘Angel.’ They provided me with a big house to live in, delicious food, and even servants. Everyone was kind and polite to me, and did not ask anything in return.

It was truly fortunate. Strangely enough , I couldn’t speak a word after the first day. Was this a penalty? Seeing that there was aphasia among the penalties, it seemed like penalties were a punishment from God.

I seemed to be a fallen angel who committed a grave sin in heaven and fell to the human world, bearing the weight of many punishments. I became more convinced of this with each passing day.

I had no memory of how I lived before, who I knew, what I liked or disliked. In addition, I would sometimes vomit blood or faint, and even a short walk would leave me breathless and my legs felt weak. (The people of Sablum strangely liked that I couldn’t go far.) Whenever I combed my hair, strands fell out like golden threads, and I often had sleepless nights, sleeping for only two hours.

So, perhaps the deadline of one year was exactly as it says.

I sighed again, creating a claw-like shape with my fingers and gently patted my scalp. This was a hair loss prevention massage taught by the bald tribe leader. He assured me that if I did this regularly while still having hair, it would help. But the inevitable progression of baldness would eventually lead me to become bald, and they said they would respect and admire me even if I became bald.

“They are kind people…”

Life in Sablum was undoubtedly comfortable. They noticed what made me uncomfortable and taught me how to prevent hair loss.

The reason I kept sighing, was that there was something not just that being comfortable could satisfy this feeling.

“Ha…”

I was lonely. There was nothing to do, and I was bored, but more than that, the loneliness was growing in size.

The people in Sablum didn’t approach me carelessly. Well, what kind of crazy person would dare to talk to an angel and exchange affection without hesitation? I understood.

But, recently, while strolling near my house during a sleepless night, I witnessed young lovers in Sablum hiding in the darkness, passionately kissing.

They passionately explored each other’s lips and touched each other’s bodies with their hands. The sight of the two people breathing heavily while touching their chest, back and buttocks, was deeply engraved in my mind. The two of them wanted to take off their clothes, so I quickly returned home, but my heart continued to pound even after I got home.

To them, only each other seemed to exist in this world. Nothing seemed to disturb them, and even the vast and majestic desert seemed to have transformed into their background.

From that day on, I began to feel loneliness and envy to the point of bitterness.

What would it feel like to meet one’s soulmate?

How valuable and magnificent is it to find the one person who is for you in this wide and lonely desert.

I, too, wanted to meet my soulmate. I tried to convey this to the tribal chief, but even the quick-witted chief didn’t understand this time. “Do you need more servants?” He simply increased the number of servants.

What I needed was not a servant but a lover. Someone I could love, who could love me, and a person so precious to me that we desire each other and willingly die in that desire.

God told me to meet a ‘male protagonist’ within a year. A male protagonist likely meant my lover. If I failed to meet him, God threatened me with death as punishment. So, if you think the other way around, meeting my lover means saving my life.

I need to find a mate before I die.

However, within Sablum, there was no one who dared to become my lover, and even if I tried to leave Sablum, my physical condition did not allow it.

“Sigh…”

It was another futile sigh. Suddenly, there was a commotion outside the door. Servants were shouting, “You cannot enter!”, “This is where the Angel is!”, “Stop!”

What’s going on?

Feeling suddenly scared, I pressed my body against the wall. After a while, the commotion stopped, and the door opened. The person who entered after opening the door was a tall and sturdy man with a black mask.

He wasn’t from Sablum. Was he from another tribe, or perhaps a prisoner of war? Whatever it was, I was terrified and clung to the wall. Suddenly, the man pulled down his mask. The face underneath was so handsome that it momentarily left me stunned. He smiled with beautiful pink eyes shining.

“I found you.”
