C3 – A Strange Team Like Beggars

Rain started pouring in the middle of the night, and the temple was dilapidated. The roof was leaking, and the hill got up to move the covers to a corner. He then climbed up the roof in the rain and tore down the east wall to patch up the west wall, barely managing to repair a part of it.

As he descended from the roof, he heard the sound of hooves approaching. There were quite a number of people. The hill was startled and rushed into the temple to protect Tang Yue behind him.

“Someone is coming,” Tang Yue sat up straight and looked at the thin figure in front of him. He was a little touched.

Though this person was a stranger, he was willing to give up his life for him. Even if the system of this era had made these people slaves, Tang Yue couldn’t accept it without feeling at ease.

With a knife in his hand, Tang Yue heard the other person urgently say, “Young master, if they make a move later, run and follow the upstream of the river. After walking for ten days, you will reach the imperial city. At that time, ask the passerby, and you will know where the Yueyang Marquis’s Mansion is.”

Tang Yue held the knife tightly and asked calmly, “Do you know who they are?”

Shan shook his head. “I don’t know, but only nobles can ride horses. If these nobles want to rest in this temple, we may be driven away.”

“Didn’t you say my father is Yueyang Marquis? Isn’t his name good enough?” After all, he was a duke with military achievements. It was not like he couldn’t even intimidate people, right?

Tang Yue felt even if he told his father’s name, they might not believe it. After all, they were two beggars now.

“Young master is still the smartest,” Shan grinned. He wasn’t as tense as before.

In just a short while, they arrived outside the temple. There were no shops in this area. With such a temple, their goal could be guessed.

A group of people rushed in with torches in their hands. The flames illuminated the entire Earth Temple, and even the damp air blew against their faces.

A black mass of human heads instantly filled the small temple. Tang Yue estimated that there were around thirty people. Clearly, they did not expect that there were already people here. However, after taking a few glances at them, they roughly determined that they were harmless and left them alone.

“Quickly, bring Wang, bring the young master in!”

Four strong men brought in a palanquin outside the door as the rain kept getting heavier. The temple was becoming muddy due to the trampling of the people.

Tang Yue saw some young men carrying oilcloths to cover the leaking area on the roof. The rest of the people swept the floor and made the bed. Soon, the temple was restored to its original state. Tang Yue watched with great interest, thinking to himself that people of this era were very motivated, unlike those in the 21st century who were often spoiled and lazy even when asked to pour a cup of tea.

The wind blew the curtain of the sedan chair, and Tang Yue caught a glimpse of a black cloth and a pair of shoeless feet.

Tang Yue furrowed his brows. From the texture and color of the cloth, the person inside the sedan was either wealthy or noble. However, why weren’t they wearing shoes? Moreover, their feet seemed larger than those of an ordinary person.

Out of habit, Tang Yue began to analyze any unusual physical characteristics he observed. Was it a full-body edema or a partial one? Was it an incomplete valve function in the lower limbs or an organ failure?

Tang Yue gradually became less nervous as he watched the scene before him.

When Shan saw the group of people were preoccupied with their work and didn’t drive them away, he secretly breathed a sigh of relief. However, he still stood stubbornly in front of Tang Yue.

Tang Yue patted his shoulder, indicating he shouldn’t be nervous. Although the group looked fierce, they were disciplined and didn’t show any intention to harm them. They seemed to be well-trained soldiers.

They had brought a patient with them late at night. Either the patient needed urgent medical attention or they were being pursued by enemies. Whatever their circumstances, they certainly didn’t want any trouble.

Both Tang Yue and the old man Shan, these two individuals who looked like beggars had no indication of menace.
