Episode 58

Ares tied the reins to the chariot and took off his blood-dyed helmet. A close-cut reddish-brown hair and youthful man’s face appeared. Thick eyebrows and gray eyes like Hestia’s shone violently.

“Apollo, I guess I wasn’t the only one late,” he bowed in a polite tone.

Apollo pretended to be mute.

“I received the message late because of work, but the reason you’re late is so obvious from the looks of it,” said Apollo.

Ares could feel Apollo’s tingling gaze on him from head to toe. When the helmet was put aside and the armor dismantled, the Moussa, who was waiting for him, ran to receive the accessories.

Ares took off his weapons and handed them to Moussa. He was then handed a clean cloth handed by Moussa and wiped the blood staining his face spilled with blood.

Apollo was far ahead. He didn’t want to enter Olympus with Ares.

Ares followed behind him quickly, boots stained with blood.

Olympus was attended by all gods but Apollo and Ares. Hestia and the other gods sat on their seats. Naturally, the seats of the twelve gods sat higher and placed at a position where the sun shone brighter.

The meeting had been going on for a long while and the place buzzing with conversations from various gods suddenly quieted down.

It was because of the existence of the two gods who entered the entrance proudly.

“Apollo, Ares.”

Zeus, sitting next to Hera, wriggled his eyebrows and stared at the two gods.

“You didn’t get my message?”

The two gods understood the defined expression behind those words as “do you want to fall behind?”

“I had to deal with an emergency first…” Apollo blurred out. “Um… let’s continue the meeting. I apologize if I’ve cut the flow of discussion.”

Apollo proudly walked back to his seat with his head bowed.

Zeus looked at his song with a big smile and said, “I’ll let it go this time.”

Apollo gave a smile of gratitude for his father’s forbearance.

Unlike Apollo, who was safely seated, no one was interested in Ares. Only cynical glances were directed towards him.

“Ares, in a way, this meeting was called because of you. Why were you late?” Zeus scolded his son.

Ares raised a bow of apology. “I set up forticades at deme to deal with the war.”

Zeus looked at his son with his chin on his hand, eyes peering down at Ares like an incurable sc*m.

“Sit in your seat. I don’t want to delay the meeting any longer.”

The gods glared contemptuously at Ares crossing the hall dripping with blood. No one tried to say h*llo to him, no one tried to make eye contact.

The mother who gave birth to him covered her ears and played with her fingernails.

Athena snorted and gave his brother a pathetic look.

“You must have had a dogfight in the battlefield that you didn’t win. Write that down as your excuses.”

Ares sat in his chair besides Hades, ignoring his sister’s words. His uncle, who stayed in the lower reaches of the Underworld for majority of the year, was the only one to smile and welcome him.

“Everyone’s anxious to eat you up, Ares.”

Hades was the only one who loved his nephew, Ares, and he showed up specifically for him.

“How have you been?” Ares bowed politely.

Meanwhile, Zeus tapped his armrest with his fingers, expressing discomfort.

His eyes were fixed on the two, Ares and Hades.

Hades took a small glance at his brother, leaving behind a look of smile. Thereafter, he shut his lips.

Ares wiped the blood on his hair off with a cloth.

“Ares, come forward,” Zeus spoke in a roaring voice.

The main theme of today’s meeting were accusations of his tyranny that was disturbing the mortal world.
