Episode 79

Eutostea was sure to never had seen such a big deer in her life.

Apollo dropped the body of a deer about the size of a tiger on his shoulder on the floor. He killed it instantly with one arrow on the eyeball without damaging its fine leather. The large, thick, pale antlers of the male deer were huge like a crown. It was a beautiful beast. There were many others. All his arrows with golden feathers were embedded in their heads.

“You’ll need a sacrifice to hold a memorial service, priest of Dionysus,” said Apollo, looking at Eutostea. Animal blood hardened in his hands, which were arranging the animals on the ground. “The sacred beasts from the mountain of Parnassus will make a fine sacrifice.”

“Thank you.” Eutostea greeted him, touching the stag’s antlers that lay before her. She bowed to him with an inclined head in accordance with the deal she made with Dionysus pretending to be under the curse of oblivion. “I ask the name of the noble.”

The red eyes once filled with anticipation were depressed. “Apollo. It’s Apollo.”

Eutostea felt like she was a comedian, but she held back her laughter and said, “I greet the god of the sun.” When she was about to introduce herself, he said, “I know” and added, “Just call me Apollo.”

“Finally, the altar was moved. Thanks to you, Lord Apollo, I’m relieved of my worries. I’m thinking of offering a drink in thanks.”

Eutostea treated him with a serene face as she would greet any visitor to the temple. Apollo stopped her when she tried to reach out to the stag.

“Wait, I’ll get rid of the arrows and skin it first.”

Apollo took the dagger and sat down in front of Eutostea. He stabbed the sword in the neck of the stag he was holding. Minimal blood-spattered with the ****** of the dagger. In an instant, Eutostea bent over and caught the arrow while watching his careful work of dismantling the skin and useful meat from the body of the dead stag. No matter how hard she tried to make him a woodcutter yesterday, she felt sorry for having him do the work of a common butcher’s slave, so she thought she at least should draw the arrows out to help him.

“!”

“Wait!”

Dionysus, who was watching from afar, came running to her in surprise. Apollo reached out, dropping the sword to stop Eutostea’s hand. Moussa gave a piercing scream. The leopard growled with nervous eyes.

Eutostea rolled her eyes at the ferocious atmosphere.

When a person touched the arrow of Apollo, he would suffer from terrible scars. The Greek hero Achilles also died after being hit by one of Apollo’s arrows shot by the Trojan Prince Paris. But already the arrowhead was in the clutches of Eutostea. The golden arrow that had been plucked out of the way was curiously examined by her.

Was this Apollo’s arrow that will never miss its goal if shot?

“Are you all right?”

She was observing the arrow like she was regarding an exotic treasure, and everyone looked at her with shocked eyes as she held it.

“It’s a beautiful arrow. Is it polished? It shines like starlight.”

“I put the poison of Typhon on it. The acid is strong, so when touched, the flesh melts down and the bones burn black,” Apollo replied with a puzzled look.

“…”

Eutostea slid down the arrow. Her hands were intact. Was it a coincidence? She had no desire to risk her life and try again.

“Don’t try to touch it again just in case.”

Apollo picked up his arrow.

“Yes. I’m sorry.” Eutostea answered obediently.

A beautiful arrow with the blood of a mythical monster. She did not want to keep it close.

Apollo quickly took the skin off the animals and collected the arrows. The beasts he had caught had little to throw away. The innards and tendons are better dried and used to make arrow strings and lira strings, and the antlers of the stag are carved to make fine lira ornaments. Eutostea watched his work and hugged the skin he had extracted from the stag. After tying four branches together into a rectangular shape, hanging the skin like a spider’s web on each corner with a thin thread, and then letting it dry in the sun, it would make for a great material.

During this extra work, Eutostea sent the Moussa to pick more wax. After half a day’s worth of work, the skin was ready to dry. If left to dry for a day in the cool shade of firewood, then brought back out in the morning to soak in the sun and put back in at sunset, it would be perfect.

When she quickly finished her work and came back to where the animal carcasses had been piled up, Apollo had already wrapped the meat in papyrus and piled it up. He threw the remaining meat to the leopards, but when he saw Eutostea approaching, he got up from his seat.

“Lord Apollo.”

When he heard her call his name, his shoulders shook and his heart was pounding. His red irises shook dizzily and managed to land on Eutostea’s face. Eutostea could hardly look at his eyes, which were filled with astonishing tenderness.

“I’m going to offer the sacrifice now, would you like to come with me?”
