Ares took off without hesitation despite the lack of clarity in his surroundings because of all the blood that had dried upon his helmet. The short hair which was blood-soaked, shined under the sun. A drop of blood flowed down his cheekbone. He had an orphaned appearance out of proportion to the battlefield. He looked through the front lines with gray eyes stained with a desire for more flesh.

“Why is the cavalry still alive?”

A mounted unit that appeared from somewhere was sweeping the battlefield. They were wearing blue capes symbolizing Thebes, which made them look even colder on the blood-colored battlefields.

Well, there’s no harm.

Ares rushed to the place where the battle was raging with his bare face. He was about to discipline them because up until now, he has only met straw men who withered under his smallest strike.

Thebes was already a defeated country. Only a small number of troops remained to protect it. With Ares on its back, Marea was on the rise with successive victories. So he was struggling. The war was still boiling. The moment he thought he had a chance to win, the riders appeared. They completely wiped out their left wing and destroyed their formation. Primary casualties occurred. Marea, which had no power to replenish, faltered and retreated. In the meantime, there were additional casualties. Retreating in defeat. It’s been like this for the last few days.

So Ares took the reins of the chariot today. As soon as the battle began, he smashed the mounted troops by shooting at the battlefield. He thought he had searched thoroughly, but the key power must have been saving their breath watching the battlefield.

His troops, already lost their fighting spirit, were throwing away their weapons and fleeing, unable to wait for an order of retreat. Ares cut off about three or four soldiers of the Marea kingdom, who fled in terror. Hell broke loose. He inserted the spear into the neck of a nearby soldier who was hindering his movements.

Humans could not see him and so their fear grew more acutely when they saw their captain drop dead to the ground as if hit by an invisible force. Phobos swallowed their feelings happily. Perhaps his stomach will be filled to the brim by now. Deimos chased after the Marean soldiers who fled, driving the chariot wildly. Thebes waved the flag, thinking they had won the battle at the expense of a few. They dragged the carts out and collected the bodies of their fallen comrades.

The Moussa of the goddess of discord, Eris, were snooping among them and giggled at the sight of a poor-looking corpse. They smiled even as they saw a dark-haired soldier holding onto his dead brother and shedding sad tears.

Ares felt that the battle was over, and tossed the shield and inspected his arms. Eris’ Moussa came to deliver the helmet he threw back to him. He received it and tucked it in his side, shaking the blood off him. However, no matter how hard he tried to shake it off, the blood of others stuck like tattoos on his body and was not easily erased.

The blood dripped down his face, wrapped the back of his arms, and made it seem like he had a red tattoo. The sons of Ares led the chariot to him.

“It may take some time to recover our battle line. They’re all gone.”

“They must have been afraid of the sound of your horns, too. The fighting will resume soon. Bring Akimo and feed him. It’s a big dinner,” Ares said, looking at the fallen carcasses on the floor.

Akimo is his pet snake. A giant monster with a body length of more than 60 feet and eats dozens of humans every day. The two sons take turns in taking care of the snake’s prey. However, on such a chaotic day, the snake is released on the battlefield so that it can eat as much as it wants. Like a kind of feast.

And as the war drags on, Akimo is eating well and sheds its skin three times with scales as hard as steel and venom more lethal than most poisons. Even a drop of its saliva has a strong acidity like hydrochloric acid, so it can swallow a full human body in no time.

Ares thinks his pet snake is cute as it turns into a great predator day by day. The two sons try to take good care of the beloved monster of their father. Although they completely disagree with the opinion that the appearance of the snake, which rose like a thorn, is anything near cute. When it was full, it drooled and bit his arm playfully, it was dangerous because even a god’s body would get hurt deeply when it was brushed against its fangs.

“Akimo.”
