“What’s this? A little leaf, floating on the wind?” Abandon’s grin grew wider.

“Get your hands off the Young Miss, you beast!” Ken grit his teeth, feeling the overwhelming anger flow through him.

“Why should I?” Abadon turned his nose up slightly. “She’s my soon to be wife.”

The Town Lord had been quite strict about their relationship when Ken was younger. They weren’t allowed to be alone, not unless they were within the Town Lord’s own estate. Yet here was Abadon, holding Zarina so intimately.

Ken’s eyes were filling with rage, but they slowly turned to Zarina, who didn’t seem to mind the Young Master’s touch. [How could you let him touch you?]

“This!” Ken grunted through his gritted teeth. “When did this become a thing?” He could almost feel his teeth chatter as he barely contained his rage.

“This was created out of necessity,” the Town Lord said. He knew that Ken wouldn’t understand, and he didn’t want anything to escalate from here on. “Now I ask that you leave at once.”

“Was my father’s body even cold when you betrayed him?” Ken exclaimed, no longer able to control his rage.

“Impudence!” The Town Lord let out his overwhelming pressure engulf around the Young Patriarch, showing him what the pressure of a Martial Expert was. “If you continue your prattling, I will be forced to act. Your family is all but gone, do not force my hand to hurt the last Leafblade.”

“You!” Ken couldn’t even find the words, his mind cloudy with rage. How could the Town Lord betray his father like this? The thunder lion statue had said it happened a year ago, was it true?

“You don’t need to deal with the likes of him, father,” Abadon said, stepping forward. He grinned like a wild beast, his eyes narrowing like he was looking at prey. “Allow me.”

[Father?]

“I will handle the last vestige of a family soon to be a relic of the past.” Abadon cracked his knuckles and then clenches his fists.

“Don’t you dare speak about my family in that way!” Ken pointed to Abadon, baring his teeth. “What qualifications do you have to speak about them? My family died defending this town, whilst your family cowered behind these walls! It was only because Leafblade blood was spilled that you can even stand before me!”

Ken’s brow pulsed, his vision beginning to turn red. His body was shaking, his rage threatening to boil over.

“Don’t blame me for your family’s stupidity.” Abadon grinned, his eyes narrowing further as he continued to try and coax Ken.

“You beast!” Ken was unable to control himself, drawing his family’s blade and pointing it to Abadon. “You have brought shame upon my good family’s name, you dog!”

“That’s more like it!” Abadon laughed like a wicked hyena, raising his hands out to his sides. “Since you’re pointed your blade at me, it’s time that we stopped talking with our words!”

Abadon’s skin turned into rock as he charged forward, and Ken grabbed his blade with both hands, keeping a neutral stance. He, like Abadon, was a Low Martial Warrior. This would be a difficult fight, but Ken was also quite the genius when it came to his family’s techniques.

Ken swung his sword down, trying to cut through Abadon’s punch, but the fist blurred and disappeared.

[What?]

Abadon completely disappeared from his sight.

Ken had made one mistake in his calculation. Ken had broken through a Low Martial Warrior at the same time as Abadon, and whereas he had spent an entire year grieving for the loss of his family, Abandon had been training, as well as flirting with Zarina.

Abadon was no longer a fresh Low Martial Warrior, but one who had reached the peak through his year long harsh training.

Ken gasped as he felt something strike his side, and he skid away. He spit out, trying to gasp for air.

[What happened?]

Unfortunately for Ken, Abadon was a wild beast, and he came upon Ken like a pouncing tiger. Ken tried to catch his breath and focus himself, gripping his blade tighter, but Abadon was too vicious.

Abadon struck him from the other side this time, several of Ken’s ribs cracked as he stumbled aside. The pain was engulfing Ken as Abadon battered him, breaking more of his ribs.

[How could this be?]

How could the Town Lord have abandoned him? The Thunderlions had changed the contract a year ago? Why hadn’t they told him? He had waited the entire year, grieving for his family, and counting down the days until his marriage with Zarina. He was almost eighteen, and so he and Zarina should have gotten married.

He grabbed his blade tightly, fueled by the rage of his betrayal, and swung wildly. Now he was the savage beast.

Abadon stepped in front of Ken, catching the blade with his rocky forearm, and smiled at Ken. He wound up his fist behind him as Ken tried to dig into his arm, his eyes pure white with rage.

Abadon aimed for Ken’s core, his fist coming in slowly, as though it took an entire year, before it met his flesh. The fist sank deep into him, breaking his dantian, and his meridians shattered.

Ken vomited blood as he skid back several meters, his legs shaking and twitching, but he refused to fall onto his knees. The burning pain coursed through his body as he struggled to stay conscious.

“How vicious!”

“Poor lad!”

“Why did he go up against someone like Abadon?”

However, this battle had given Abadon enough insight to breakthrough. From his forehead, a whirlwind of ki expanded and he was given the knowledge and strength of someone who had just taken a step into Middle Martial Warrior.

The crowd gasped and then started to clap their hands, congratulating the Young Master on his breakthrough, whereas they ignored the broken Young Patriarch.

“Hahaha!” Abadon roared with laughter, clenching his fists. “Middle Martial Warrior! Do you understand now? Zarina picked me because I’m a genius! With me, her future is secure!” He continued to laugh like a hyena.

Whereas Abadon had broken through, Ken had been half wasted. He could still cultivate, but he’d need to fix his dantian and his meridians. It was like his cup had been broken so it could only hold a quarter of the water he used to.

Even so, his sword didn’t slip from his grasp and he remained standing.

“It seems that there will only be four great families in this town.” The Town Lord sighed. It was a shame it had come to this, but he had warned the boy.

“I have to say, I’m disappointed. I thought you’d have amounted to more.” Abadon chuckled as he walked off.

“Bastards!” Ken managed to cough out, spitting up more blood. He gripped his sword tighter, pointing it up towards the air. “I, Ken Leafblade, swear that I will never forget the dishonour of this day given to me!”

“So he was still conscious?” Abadon said, looking back to Ken. “I can fix that.” He grinned and walked over to Ken.

“I want you to remember this! Thunderlion! Terraheart! I will not rest until the sun has set on your families for good!”

“Crazy bastard.” Abadon wound up his fist again, covering it in earth. Then he punched Ken with all his might, not giving any mercy to the already half crippled boy. Ken’s body folded as he flew back many metres, leaving a trail of blood he had vomited.

His sword dropped from his hands, clattering in front of Abadon. He smirked and picked it up, carrying it to Zarina. “I’ve brought you a gift. Two gifts.” He handed over the sword first, and then looked at the horse. “Sorry they’re so low quality.”

Zarina just smiled at Abadon, accepting the gifts. “It’s fine. It’s the thought that counts.” She held out her hand, and Abadon kissed it before he wrapped his arm around her waist. Working up a sweat like that had made him horny so he was going to pound his little lioness into her bed.

Ken still had a sliver of consciousness as he watched them flirt and walk off, abandoning him there.

[You didn’t even look back. Was I ever in your sights?]

His consciousness faded.

The Town Lord sighed, waving his hand to summon a guard. “Dumb his body somewhere. He doesn’t have anyone to look after his funeral arrangements, so the easiest thing to do is to dump him in the forest for the animals to pick him to pieces.”

The guard lifted him up and carried him off until they were a few miles away. He checked the boy’s pockets first, but found nothing. “Trash.” He flung the boy into the forest and then walked back.

He had been so casual that one could have assumed that he was out on a stroll.

A hungry beast crawled towards the unconscious and dying body of the Young Patriarch of the Leafblade family. It clawed at his thighs and opened its jaws wide, teeth glinting under he sun as it swallowed him.
