Asha didn’t have much time to regret accepting the crippled Arrayist’s request. He was charming, in a weird way, and she wasn’t sure if that was a positive thing.

He had a large, thick woman beside him, who was always positioned to protect him, even though she seemed to be an Alchemist.

[Then there’s the wolf girl, who has only one arm, and is definitely a slave with many scars, but she seems quite happy to be with him. Does that mean she had the scars before he bought her?]

She looked to Yue and Nana.

Yue was obviously some kind of secretary for him, as he sometimes would talk to her about the map and the plan, as well as things related to daily life.

Nana, on the other hand, was someone who pushed his chair. She probably wasn’t that important to him, but he certainly treated her well as well.

“How long have you been providing such services, Miss Asha?” Ken asked her.

“Since I was ten years old,” Asha replied, not giving him a definite answer.

Ken assumed she was roughly his age, or maybe a little older. She was definitely a tribeswoman of the plains, considering her skin and her slight accent. She also didn’t have the mannerisms that he would expect of his own people. Plus, the way she was dressed, with her trousers…

Ken quite enjoyed the sight of trousers. He wondered if maybe he should buy a set for Emerald, though quickly snapped out of his thoughts.

“Ten years old? So not very long?” He teased her.

“I’m sure I’m older than you.”

“You just might be,” Ken replied back. “Though you are a beautiful woman regardless of your age.”

“Does age reduce one’s beauty?”

“That depends. If I was speaking with my wife, I would say no. If I’m talking to other women, I would say no, but not quite so flirtatiously.”

“How will you say it to me?” Asha tilted her head.

“We’ll have to wait for a few years to see how I’ll say it to you.” Ken winked.

“Are you sure you aren’t biting more than you can chew?”

“I-“ Ken stopped as he felt Emerald lean up against his shoulder, pressing her fat tits against his the side of his face and his neck. “Excuse me,” he said, looking away from Emerald’s glare.

“It’s rude to flirt in front of me, Ken…” She brushed her veil across his ear.

“Sorry…”

Asha smirked wider, seeing who held the real power here. Ken remained silent due to his embarrassment.

The first day through the plains went peacefully. Asha was riding in the carriage at first, only for the first few hours, before she swapped placed with Gin.

“We’ll rest at the ridge tonight,” she said. She pointed out to a group of boars in the distance. “You should slay a boar about two kilometres away from us.”

Ken looked to the twins and nodded at them. They left their horses as they darted off to do as she asked.

“Is there a reason why?” Ken asked.

“For good luck,” she replied back, but it was obvious she was hiding something. She looked up at the sky, like she was judging it, and she frowned. She seemed as though she wanted to say something, but decided against it.

The twins slew the boar with ease, and returned before the hour was up. They had slain another boar and had brought it back. Asha looked at it, narrowing her eyes, but she nodded and left it at that.

Ken wondered if they had made a mistake. He looked to the twins. “Thank you for your service,” he said as Nana got to cooking.

“I’ll be telling you what to slay from now on,” Asha said. “There might be a case where slaying a creature might attract unwanted attention.”

The twins looked to Ken, who nodded his head. “We will follow Miss Asha’s commands while we’re in the plains.”

Asha would often times look at the sky. When she took a bite of the food, she stopped and looked down at it. “You have quite the cook.”

“I have an eye for talent,” Ken said, deciding not to tell Asha how the pair actually met.

Nana caught Ken’s eyes, seeing what he was thinking, and quickly looked away. Her face was red and Ken couldn’t help but smile.

“You are such a great cook.” Ken reached over and squeezed her arm gently.

Asha could see the way they spoke with one another.

[They totally fucked.]

Her eyes then went to Emerald, who didn’t seem to mind the fact he was flirting with Nana in front of her.

[So is it only me? Is it because I’m not a part of the harem?]

Asha wondered if she should slide into the harem just to tease Emerald, but she couldn’t get a sense for the Alchemist’s strength, and it wasn’t a good idea to piss an Alchemist off anyway.

“We’ll take the same watches as last time,” Ken said. “Miss Asha, please take the time to rest as much as you can. You are our lifeline in this situation.”

Asha blinked at him but nodded her head slowly. Usually, she would be tasked to take watch with the others, even if it was only for an hour at most. “I’ll accept your kindness.”

“I don’t think it’s kindness, but pragmatism.” Ken motioned a hand to the carriage. “If you wish, you can rest inside. I don’t take much space.”

“I’ll sleep outside,” Asha replied. “I feel more comfortable when I can see the sky when I first wake up.”

Ken left the matter there, bowing his head and retiring early. Emerald climbed on top of him right away and kissed him, before wrapping herself around him.

“What’s wrong?” Ken asked, reaching up to brush her hair.

“Ken was very mean,” she said, pouting down at him.

“For flirting in front of you?” Ken asked.

“En.”

“I’m sorry.” He reached up and pet her head. “You know you’re my favourite…”

[[Mortal…]]

Ken cleared his throat. The goddess had been quiet for some time, and he wondered where she had been. He decided against talking with her whilst he had escorts around.

Emerald rested her head on his chest, nuzzling into it. “…”

“…”

It didn’t take long for her to drop down towards his crotch.

[How is she always so, ah, hungry?]

During the night, well after Emerald had finished with her dessert, a chill filled the air. Ken froze up in place, feeling his heart pound wildly, his consciousness barely hanging on.

Emerald wrapped herself around him and pulled him close to her chest to calm him as the others around were being assaulted by the same pressure. Chandi opened the door of the carriage and was barely able to stand, but she was pushed back in by Asha.

Asha, who was barely conscious under the pressure, looked at Ken and shook her head. She then shut the door, leaving them inside.

Chandi looked to Ken, wondering what she should do. Ken shook his head, waiting to see what would happen. Each second felt like an eternity, but after a few moments, the pressure began to ease.

Ken’s heart pounded wildly within his chest, and he let out a breath, gasping for air. He looked up at Emerald, who seemed to have faired best under the pressure, barely sweating.

Ken caught Chandi’s eyes and then pointed to the door. Chandi opened up the door and then looked around, her eyes scanning the area first, but then she looked up at the sky, her eyes growing wide.

Ken’s curiosity was getting the better of him, but Emerald kept him close to her bosom. She refused to let him go. Chandi eventually shut the door and then curled up around Yue and Nana, pulling them into her.

Her eyes were full of shock and fear, and Ken decided against asking about it for the night. It took a long while for them to eventually fall asleep, though it was quite restless.

“What happened last night?” Ken asked Asha. Even now, he could feel how much it had affected him with how his muscles ached.

“An ill omen,” Asha said. “From now on, we’ll need to be more careful.”

“What was it? I saw Chandi look into the sky…”

“It was a…” Asha looked to Chandi, who stared down at her food, trying to escape the conversation. Asha then looked to Ken. “A Roc.”

“A… Roc?”

“Yes.”

“You mean…”

“Yes.”

“…”

“…”

Ken returned to his food. He had heard about the mystical Roc before. It was something which caused even the great families of the Beast Mountain Town to shudder. Even their Martial Masters would be unsure of whether they could defeat such a creature.

[A Roc…]

Ken felt a chill run through his spine.

[Stupid Roc! Dare to threaten my master!]

Emerald was pissed, but at the same time, she understood that a Roc was far out of her league at the moment. Even she wilted under its terrible pressure.
