“Disciple Ken,” Emerald said, staring down at him.

Ken shot up to attention, staring at the Town Lord, who was looking at him expectantly. “Excuse me,” Ken said, having just remembered he needed to tell the Town Lord the actual point to his statement.

[[Pfft!]]

[How embarrassing.]

“You see, we understand your plight, Town Lord. Which is why we are offering to sell to you directly. We will assist you with a certain amount of pills and elixirs every month.” Ken smiled brightly towards the Town Lord.

“How many pills and elixirs?” The Town Lord was tentative, and after swallowing, he continued. “For how much?”

“We will supply the Town Lord with 100 low grade earth pills, 10 middle grade earth pills, and 1 high grade earth pill monthly. We will also create three elixirs of the Town Lord’s choice, though we expect the Town Lord to supply the ingredients for all the items mentioned.” Ken stared at the Town Lord, who was waiting for the price. “We believe that the Town Lord will come up with a fair price.”

“!!!” The Town Lord remained still and silent, thinking about what Ken said. The amount of pills were fine, nothing too exciting to the Town Lord, though it certainly would help his people. However, hearing that he could come up with a fair price, it was something which he was unsure about. He could offer market rate, but would that offend the Alchemists?

Market rate meant what the pills should actually sell for, and not how much they usually sold for. It was used in order to seem as though it was fair to offer it, and it was often used by dishonest businessmen to screw over the weaker party. However, it could also be used to show sincerity. The Town Lord was in a bind.

“We will also be doing some work through the Commerce Pavilion, but we wanted to offer this to you as well, Town Lord.” Ken smiled brightly still.

[Is he telling me that he is going to make money through the Commerce Pavilion, so I should come up with something in my favour? No, wait. He has come here for my assistance as well. He wants me to offer a decent price, and then will come for favours accordingly.]

Suddenly, the Town Lord understood Ken’s game. The Town Lord had judged the situation to be a certain way, and he needed to take the risk. “I will offer you market rate for each pill and elixir, and I will provide the materials for each item. I would also be willing to create a second contract for the Goldenthunder family.”

“We are happy to sell you what we’ve discussed at market rate for the people of this town,” Ken said, nodding his head. “What would the Goldenthunder family offer?”

Him willing to create a second contract was him saying that he would offer the Alchemist something in order to create that contract. The Town Lord thought about what he had learnt about the Alchemists during the visit.

They had come here and bought a large number of slaves. They were here to practise their alchemy and test out their recipes. They wanted a large place to house 500 people, even though they only had 200 people.

The problem was, that this was all quite alarming.

It was alarming even to the Town Lord, however, he could probably take the situation and put it in his favour. If he was able to assist the Alchemists in this endeavour, then wouldn’t they recall his assistance?

The other families had been pressuring him so much, so this could be a move which could make or break his family for generations to come.

“May I ask, Disciple Ken, how long you and your Master will remain to do business here?”

Ken leaned back slightly, thinking about how to answer the question. “We are here for at least a few months in order to practise our alchemy, but in terms of doing business within this town…” Ken wasn’t entirely sure, but he realised there was something he could do in this town over time. “If we are invited into this town with sincerity, we would find it hard to completely remove ourselves from Beast Bane Town. We will need to eventually leave, but that doesn’t mean that our presence will wholly leave.”

“What kind of business do you wish to create within the town?” The Town Lord had to ask overtly, though he usually wouldn’t because that would be seen as rude. However, he did have the right to know as the Town Lord.

Ken wondered how much he should divulge at the moment. However, to have the Town Lord on his side, it would be extremely useful.

“I would prefer to write it down,” Ken said, taking out a small sheet of paper and then writing something down. He then handed it to the Town Lord, who didn’t hesitate to take it.

If it was some kind of poison or array, then the two would have risked their lives since he also had his ring, which would protect him from such attacks. When nothing triggered, he read the paper.

The Town Lord scrunched the paper up and then looked to Ken. After a moment, he used his ki to burn the paper up. The Town Lord understood that the information on the paper shouldn’t be said to anyone else.

“Allow me to once again invite you into our town, Disciple Ken.” The Town Lord smiled.

“I will thank you again for your grace, Town Lord.” Ken smiled in return.

“Since you are going into such business, you will find some trouble.” The Town Lord sipped his tea again. The problem was, Ken needed freedom to do as he pleased, and the Town Lord couldn’t just attach his name to something so controversial.

“That is correct. I hope the Town Lord would be willing to provide some assistance when we require it.” Ken didn’t want to push his luck. He would need to be careful with the other families, as well as the various different pavilions within the town.

The Town Lord was a great force within the town, and so was the Commerce Pavilion. However, these two alone could only do so much, especially considering the audaciousness of the plan he had.

[Oh, but what if…]

Ken straightened up slightly, causing the Town Lord to glance at him again. Ken smiled.

“…”

“Town Lord, perhaps we could speak of the second contract?”

The Town Lord nodded. “What price would you sell your various pills for?”

“Market rate for each pill which is of lower and middle grade,” Ken said. “You will pay 100% extra for high grade pills.”

Then Town Lord was surprised to hear that Ken was offering him such a good deal. The deal for low grade and middle grade earth pills was essentially at market price, and the price of the high grade pills was decent. The Town Lord wasn’t understanding the point of the contract thus far, other than perhaps Ken earning his favour.

“Of course, there’s only so many pills that we can create, my Master and I, so we will offer you first access to a certain number of our pills.” Ken placed down a few of the pills which was made out of his loving. “Do you know what this is?”

“A white pearl pill?” The Town Lord picked it up and looked at it. “No, there’s something about it.”

“That’s correct. It’s more effective for women.”

“How much more effective?”

“60%.” Ken smiled.

The Town Lord stared at the pill. It was true that these pills had greater effects, though he couldn’t quite make it out. If it was true that they were 60% more effective, then having access to such pills would grant his family greater boons.

“Sell these pills exclusively to my Goldenthunder family and I will offer you forty silver for each low grade earth pill, two gold for each middle grade earth, and thirty gold for each high grade earth pill.”

“How about this,” Ken said. “I will sell you the low grade and middle grade pills to you exclusively, for thirty silver and one gold and fifty silver coins respectively, but we will be able free to sell the high grade pills to whoever we wish?”

The high grade earth pills were worth pushing for, but since most of his family would benefit from exclusively taking the low grade and middle grade pills, the Town Lord nodded. He understood that this was a battle where he had to get as much as he could without losing ground, and if he kept pushing, it may end up with him losing favour with the Alchemists.

The high grade pills were too precious for Ken to give up, especially since Emerald could easily make them and they could assist when they were in a pinch. However, since the Town Lord was so polite, Ken kept in mind that he should treat the Town Lord well.

“I hope we can move on to the next discussion,” Ken said. “We can speak more about alchemy later if the Town Lord wishes, but I do have something which the Town Lord may be interested in if he is willing to lend this young man an ear.”

The Town Lord looked at Ken questioningly, nodding his head slowly.

Ken smiled.
