DPM Chapter 104-Before a Fight
Translated by Snowfall77

Left with no choice, Mozun knew their one realistic shot at escape was slipping away. He couldn’t keep any secrets, while at the same time comprehending exactly what would happen to them if they were caught by the remaining light elders.

Their consciousness would be stripped away, memory destroyed, and bodies discarded like trash. Mozun’s whole personhood would be cut into pieces, then integrated into the light pillar in the temple. There would be no self ever again.

Turning his head, Mozun took a deep look at his lover who briefly showed his face. Then Mozun forcefully shook Wu Xingyun off.

Mozun believed Wu Xingyun would understand his meaning.

Pushed away by Mozun, Wu Xingyun saw the large crowd of Duodao warriors gunning straight for Mozun, mixed emotions suddenly churning inside the soldier’s chest.

He couldn’t read Mozun’s mind.

But the light elders could.

“Mozun’s willing to perish together with the Duodao warriors to buy time for his companion!”

“Foolish! Betraying us for such a lowly thing!”

“Purify them!”

Duodao warriors thronged around Mozun, the only objective they could currently see.

Mozun sneered to himself. He was now a light elder with an unsevered spiritual link. How could these lowly Duodao warriors hurt him?

“Step aside, step aside! It’s the other light elders who are betraying the Deity!” Mozun ordered the Duodao warriors.

Light elders didn’t disagree with each other. Like different parts of the same body, they were one.

Therefore confused by the conflicting commands, the Duodao warriors instinctually moved out of Mozun’s way.

Taking advantage, an invisible Wu Xingyun raced ahead, jumping into a spaceship.

The controls of the ship weren’t complicated and it only took Wu Xingyun a moment to get it aloft.

As the golden ship rose in the air, the Duodao warriors received a combined order from the other four light elders.

“Mozun has betrayed the Deity! Seize him and kill him!”

Blankly staring in bewilderment, the Duodao warriors stood still.

Suddenly Mozun heard two of the light elders’ voices sounding in his head.

“It’s useless. He’s a light elder of the same rank.”

“We have to be a level above him……”

“It’s time for our true union!”

An unreasonable wave of dread surged in Mozun’s heart. With his eyes he watched Wu Xingyun flying the spaceship towards him, while simultaneously seeing the two light elders’ unified state in his mind.

The two light elders had ascended mid-air, their long hair flowing. Their bodies entangled into a radiant blend.

Embracing each other, they gradually melded together until finally forming a white sphere that sent out blazing rays of light, accompanied by an exotic fragrance and intense brain waves.

All the Saer honored the light orb, listening to its orders alone.

And anywhere the light orb passed was reduced to ashes.

A command he could not defy drilled into Mozun’s mind: “Kill your companion! Return to the embrace of the Deity!”

Scarlet light poured out of Mozun from head to foot. His body and mind no longer under his control, his energy rapidly built up to the bursting point.

Yet Wu Xingyun’s ship was still coming towards him, ready to save him.

“Run!” Mozun shouted into the sky. His original plan had been to paralyze the other light elders with the notion that he’d engage in mutual destruction with the Duodao warriors. Unfortunately that wasn’t what Mozun actually thought. He knew Wu Xingyun wouldn’t leave him behind and he also believed that the two of them would be able to escape from here.

But two light elders merging into a giant light ball just to deal with him was unexpected.

Mozun could clearly see the illumination it gave off in the distance.

" "

“What is that?” Fear gripped Mozun. He shifted through the memories of the Saer and couldn’t find what was confronting him now.

He knew that two light elders could unify. He’d just assumed its only purpose was the Saer form of sex. He hadn’t realized it came with another kind of formidable power.

“That’s……a true union.” Someone answered Mozun’s question, and Mozun abruptly turned around to see whose voice it was in his ear. Saman.

“Why are you here……” Before Mozun could finish his sentence, a radiation attack erupted from his body, directly aimed at the ship Wu Xingyun was flying.

Every other thought and intention left Mozun’s head—the only thing that mattered was obeying the will of the unified light elder.

Under Mozun’s onslaught the evidently fragile shell of the spacecraft rapidly disintegrated, while the range of Mozun’s radiation was too wide to evade.

The ship he was in torn to pieces, Wu Xingyun found himself at the gate of death and fell into the dust below.

“Hehe.” Saman smiled, watching Mozun’s body gearing up to a second wave of attack. “This is……reaping what you’ve sown!”

Mozun stared at Saman with dead eyes. His mind was not his own, he was encircled by enemies, and his will was being controlled by a more powerful species.

The was only one last vestige in his brain, one final thought.

Mozun howled in desperation, forcing both hands up. Using his fingers like a blade, Mozun stabbed them into the back of his head.

Agony took Mozun over, his body uncontrollably convulsing. He dropped to the ground, the unified light elder already rushing over to his location.

Saman floated up into the air, taken aback. It had come for revenge on Mozun, never anticipating that Mozun would sever his own spiritual link by himself.

It should have been impossible for someone linked to the Deity.

As it was, there was a good chance Mozun was going to die.

Yes, Saman was afraid Mozun stood no chance of survival now.

The unified light elder was on its way. Where it went, only flying ash was left.

A genuine amalgamation of two bodies, at its center were four arms and four legs.

With each finger, it was capable of casually launching an attack in whatever the designated direction. And the strength of that attack was at least double fold of the force generated when Mozun and Saman had first met.

Foolishly gawking at the approaching unified light elder, Saman knew—if it didn’t run away, it was just waiting to get killed alongside Mozun.

“Two light elders have a severed spirit link! This is an irredeemable loss!”

“The traitors will certainly suffer the Deity’s punishment!”

Blathering to the other two light elders, the unified light elder was also gathering a large number of Duodao warriors, as it advanced like a sun ascending over a golden sea wave.

“Saman! You dare to still exist?! You dare to face us?!” The unified light elder’s voice rang across the land.

Bowing its head, Saman tried to find Mozun’s half-dead body, thinking it should just die next to its pair. But to Saman’s shock, it couldn’t find Mozun’s body anywhere. It seemed to have up and vanished.

At a loss, Saman dithered around for a moment until suddenly coming to the obvious conclusion.

Mozun’s partner, that creature that could turn invisible, was hiding Mozun.

The gears in Saman’s mind spun. Maybe there was a way out for it too, a way to avoid its own death.

Wu Xingyun had never witnessed such a terrible outburst of energy from Mozun before. If it hadn’t been for the flimsy protection of the Saer ship, Wu Xingyun most certainly would’ve lost his life.

As it was, Wu Xingyun’s body felt like it had back in the last days, when he’d been caught between the tree monster and a young Ye Fan.

The pain was overwhelming, every cell in his body crying out, and he didn’t understand what was going on. He didn’t know why Mozun was acting the way he was acting, or why Mozun would fire on the ship he’d clearly intended Wu Xingyun to get.

And when Saman had shown up, Wu Xingyun couldn’t help the doubt and confusion creeping over him.

What the hell was going on? Was Mozun doing something behind Wu Xingyun’s back?

Yet the second Wu Xingyun saw Mozun stab his hand into the back of his head like a knife and then fall to the ground, Wu Xingyun cared about nothing else but making his way to Mozun’s side.

Every step Wu Xingyun took, he thought he’d break to pieces. Yet Wu Xingyun saw the unified light elder getting closer and closer, saw the Duodao warriors getting ready to pounce on Mozun, and the pain got shoved to the back of his mind.

When he finally reached Mozun and took the mutant’s hand in his own, Wu Xingyun could hardly believe the hand actually belonged to Mozun.

Thin, dry and nothing but bones, like all the moisture had been sucked from the flesh.

And it was dreadfully cold, ice-cold.

Wu Xingyun put a finger under Mozun’s nose. There was no breath. Not even a heartbeat.

The soldier didn’t know what was happening. All Wu Xingyun could do was hold Mozun in his arms, hiding them both.

Mozun’s body vanished from sight even as he failed to awaken.

From the ground, Wu Xingyun watched the golden wave of Duodao soldiers hastening towards them.

Who were they coming for? It went without saying.

Wu Xingyun and Mozun might be invisible, but they weren’t able to budge from their spot. They would be discovered soon enough.

What nasty end was awaiting them?

Getting to Mozun’s side had taken all the strength Wu Xingyun had left. He was unable to move. If not for his invisibility, the nearby Duodao warriors would have already turned him into a dismembered body.

He couldn’t leave without Mozun though. That wasn’t an option. Facing an unsolvable dilemma, Wu Xingyun was surprised to hear someone speak to him.

The tone was hate-filled, yet unresigned and helpless: “I know you’re here! And I know you can’t escape! Make me invisible too and I’ll help you get out of here!”

Saman fought to keep his anxious voice low.

Wu Xingyun was not even remotely convinced he should trust this light elder in front of him.

It was just that, regrettably, Wu Xingyun knew he didn’t have much choice.

Aggressive enemies encircled Wu Xingyun and there was no way out.

Saman stumbled around, calling out, and wondering if it had misjudged. Just as the Saer sank into complete desperation and despair, an unseen hand grabbed its lower leg.

A disembodied voice said: “If you want to escape, it’ll only work if we escape together.”

Saman bent down and held the hand on its leg.

The Saer’s figure gradually disappeared……
