DPM Chapter 11-Terms of Marriage Part 2
Translated by Snowfall77

Their fuel thrusters weren’t made to last up to three months in space.

And once the fuel ran out, the combat suits would lose their temperature control, stop providing oxygen, and the occupants would freeze to death.

At the onset of the expedition, everyone had made the effort to be in high spirits.

A week later, they all felt unpleasant.

A month later, greatly discomforted.

Two months later, their destined planet still tantalizingly far, teasing its mysterious appearance, everyone felt on the edge of imminent collapse.

“I…I’m done…” A solider stared at the distant planet, gradually becoming larger, but still half a month away before possible arrival.

“I’m sorry, I can’t complete the mission…” The solider fell away, body growing cold. His suit’s fuel run dry as he froze to ice. Once again, the group held a mourning gathering.

“This isn’t going to work, fewer and fewer of our people are going to be able to make it.” Wu Xingyun seethed in frustration.

The other soldiers complained too. “That hypocritical Night Shard, the evil fucking bastard! Sending messengers, like he actually wanted to make up. Now what? We’re so close to him, dying out here, and he’s pretending not to know?”

“Why are we even headed there? Even if we get there, we won’t get any supplies…”

“Are we going to all die here? I want to die in the Federation…”

“I heard that earth, where humans came from, was a blue planet a long time ago…It almost looks like that there, it’s acceptable to die here…” Someone was rambling nonsense.

Wu Xingyun’s mind ran incessantly, round and round.

He was the interim-Marshal, and every decision he made determined the life or death of his teammates.

Should they have tried to return to the Federation?

Wu Xingyun privately thought that he was weaker than any other solider still alive, but was also conscientiously aware of his responsibility to get all of them down to the planet. He started giving his remaining rations to soldiers about to drop.

As for himself, he survived on willpower.

It was so cold…

Like an icicle, Wu Xingyun was freezing all over his body, his fuel thruster turned to the lowest setting, because he was saving the last reserve for the planet-landing.

In front of Wu Xingyun, the blue planet was growing bigger and bigger. His mind was blank, though, except for the imperative to keep going forward.

He didn’t know what amount of time had passed, how much distance he had flown, he only knew that he must reach that planet. Must marry the Night Shard. Must complete his arduous mission.

……

After a long journey, Wu Xingyun didn’t register how achingly close he was to the planet. He was even less aware that the gravitational pull of the planet had caught him, and that he was plummeting towards the surface.

He saw his teammates cheering, relief washed over him, then inexplicably he heard Wen Nuo’s voice.

The one who had saved the rookie out on the battlefield countless times.

The ever gentle and mild Wen Nuo.

And that night…Wen Nuo’s confession.

Feeling his consciousness slipping away from his body, Wu Xingyun figured he was dying, that he was probably failing his appointed task.

He murmured to empty air: “Commander, I’m dying. Sorry I’m useless, I can’t even finish something simple, like getting mar…”

Wu Xingyun’s eyes slowly fluttered shut, his body diving rapidly, his blood vessels threatening to burst open under the pressure.

The soldiers by his side noticed Wu Xingyun hadn’t turned up his fuel thruster, and was directly dropping. Anxious, they all shouted, then turned their own fuel thrusters to max, burning their remaining fuel, all in an effort to catch the plunging Wu Xingyun.

“Sergeant Major! Something must be wrong! An accident!” All the soldiers knew, if Wu Xingyun had still been conscious, he would have sent out a distress signal. He would never have fallen like that.

Once they realized it, they yelled even louder.

But they didn’t have enough fuel, and Wu Xingyun was descending too fast.

Helpless, they watched as Wu Xingyun’s combat suit was torn apart by air pressure, due to his sharp decline.

The combat suit filled with air, the air forming a wind, stripping the suit off Wu Xingyun all the more quickly.

Before long, Wu Xingyun’s suit was completely gone. Unconscious and without any protection, he continued to fall.

Despair and desperation filled everyone. It hadn’t been easy, finally getting to the planet, and then at the last step, failing by not properly escorting their main charge…

Yet, at that time, a tremendous shock wave rose out from the planet’s surface. Solid, rocky soil, reacting to the force, rippled like a stone dropping in water, circles extending out. From the center, a small black dot ascended, at unthinkable speed, directly towards Wu Xingyun.

In the blink of an eye, the black spot seized Wu Xingyun.

Sighs of relief puffed from everyone, as they adjusted their fuel thrusters, aiming towards the location of that black speck.

Floating mid-air, lingering in dreamily multi-colored clouds, Mozun held Wu Xingyun in his arms.

Wu Xingyun’s suit long since stripped off of him, he wore only a shirt, buttons blown loose by the wind, and a pair of skintight pants.

Mozun’s face held no expression as he studied the man he was holding.

Dark skin, short hair, a plain face, unremarkable except for long eyelashes.

Mozun’s eyes trailed down the neck and the unbuttoned shirt hiding nothing.

""

Still, Mozun thought inwardly, the body was quite good and……pleasant to the touch.

His mouth started to curve up, but then Mozun heard Wu Xingyun’s whisper in his embrace.

Mozun’s hearing was more than good enough to hear what Wu Xingyun was mouthing without having to lean down.

A man’s name, a name Mozun recognizes.

Wen Nuo, Mozun recalling the face, who had hosted Mozun on Deta-Nuo.

The Wen Nuo who had vowed to get Wu Xingyun back.

Lifting up his head moodily, Mozun observed the distant soldiers flying towards him.

His usually tranquil expression traced with impatience.

When the soldiers finally landed in front of him, Mozun threw Wu Xingyun into the nearest arms, coldly stating: “The time agreed upon for the wedding has passed. Your officer, with such an attitude, he treats life-important events like this?”

After three months of agonized trekking, the Federation soldiers hated the very marrow of Mozun’s bones. They judged him the origin of all the misfortune befallen them, and hearing his words, they stared at him angrily.

But they all understood, they couldn’t afford to give in to their rage. They were in dire need of supplies and rest, and that depended on the comrade currently on the edge of life and death, Wu Xingyun.

“We encountered an accident halfway on our journey. If it hadn’t been for someone’s deliberate sabotage, we would have arrived already and not been late at all.”

“You don’t say,” replied Mozun rhetorically.

“Let’s not discuss it. Considering humanitarianism, would you stop us from resupplying? We need a place to stop and rest. And now that our leader is unconscious, can’t we wait until he wakes up?” Lu Hai put forth these requests.

Mozun shook his head. “No. My planet, only my people can use. You can’t stay or search for supplies, unless……”

His face intensified its coldness, and standing there in his black robe, the Mozun before the Federation soldiers merged with the fiendish demon seen in Federation propaganda. Together they fell prey to an intuitive discouragement.

Three days later, Wu Xingyun finally woke up. He vaguely remembered the last thing he saw, the Night Shard suddenly appearing and holding him, stopping his fall, while tensely calling his name.

Wu Xingyun hadn’t completely lost consciousness then. It was only after seeing Mozun that he’d finally slipped away.

But, what was the situation now?

Wu Xingyun examined his surroundings. He seemed to be on a large platform, halfway to the heavens, the flooring flat and smooth, with a tent erected right in the middle.

Clouds pillowed around, and in the distance, birds swooped in flocks. Apparently, the platform was suspended in mid-air, and all of them, the escort team and the dowry team, were piled together on the platform.

Not waiting for Wu Xingyun to figure things out himself, the soldiers who’d been guarding him scrambled over themselves, trying to report the situation.

Wu Xingyun’s brain was still foggy, and it wasn’t until about two hours later that he felt he had a handle on the current state of affairs.

Mozun was holding the Federation accountable for arriving past the time appointed and for losing most of the dowry. Therefore, he had refused to provide supplies or let Federation soldiers on the planet surface.

Unless……

“Unless what?” Wu Xingyun asked.

Lu Hai huffed irately. “He made a lot of messed-up conditions, that we thought impossible. Only barely reasonable. Anyways, we had to wait for you to wake up.”

“What the hell do you want me to do?” Wu Xingyun, only growing more confused.

Lu Hai started hemming and hawing, and another solider, after eyeing the others, spoke out: “The simplest condition was that at the wedding, you kiss your husband for ten minutes…”

Startled, Wu Xingyun hollered: “What?! That’s impossible!”

“But…” The soldiers’ voices turned persuasive. “If you don’t agree to his request, he won’t let us on the ground, won’t give us supplies, we’ll die here! Sir, consider our situation! We haven’t eaten in three days…”

Wu Xingyun passed back out.
