DPM Chapter 111-Sneak Attack
Translated by Snowfall77

“That is the Saer’s ultimate weapon—a unified light elder.” Floating in his black mecha, Mozun’s tone remained serene and steady.

“And how do we deal with that thing?!” Wen Nuo asked.

Mozun sighed. This ultimate weapon of this Saer was the masterpiece of their deity. It had no offensive weaknesses. Someone could incessantly and concentratedly attack it, but the end result would be that someone’s complete depletion, followed by being reduced to fine dust.

Even if all the mutants banded together, how would they deal with the unified light elder? While the two separate light elders, so long as they sheltered with the unified light elder, were also out of reach.

“Federal troops will dispatch the two light elders,” Wen Nuo made a quick decision, “Their strength is higher than your own, and your ways of fighting too similar. Federation pilots have trained for this. We’ll do it.”

“Good.” Mozun offered no argument.

Humanity’s forces divided three ways. Mozun and the mutants diverted the attention of the unified light elder, racing to dodge to its strikes. Federation warships advanced to attack the light elders who’d started fighting on their own again.

The Ghost soldiers, led by Wu Xingyun, were of no use for such assaults, having neither the speed or the abilities. Avoiding the electromagnetic storms and blasts faster than the speed of light was a tall order. So instead the Ghost soldiers took advantage of the chaos to fly their Wagelei ships to the rear of the Saer.

They had a more significant matter to attend to anyways—namely destroying the Saer artificial planet, the aliens’ base of migration.

Speeding through a boundless universe, the Wagelei ships finally honed in on the Saer planet.

Easily breaching the defense perimeter, Wu Xingyun and the Ghost soldiers found that only a small number of Duodao warriors had been left behind.

Although the Saer had equipped the planet with stealth detectors, they’d been sabotaged during the Dark Temple warrior ambush. In Wu Xingyun’s eyes, the entire place was like a defenseless baby.

After sweeping the place and eliminating any Saer they found, the Ghost soldiers flew away to a safe distance. Then dropped the many nuclear bombs they’d been carrying.

The bombs fell with exquisite precision, transforming the Saer planet into a burning orb.

There it would continue to blaze for the next three months, before finally disintegrating into clouds of smoke.

Mission completed, Wu Xingyun returned to the Alliance-Federation army, worrying about how Mozun was faring.

Making the Saer homeless didn’t mean they wouldn’t still try to make the Milky Way their new home.

The very instant their temple was blown away, the two light elders felt it.

From head to foot, they trembled from the shock. Glancing at each other, they were both consumed with grief and rage.

When they fixed their attention back on the humans fleet, wrath, loathing, and the desire to eradicate flooded the light elders’ consciousnesses.

Again and again their energy spewed forth, tidal waves of radiation rippling out.

Innumerable warships, even those with reinforced defensive capabilities, were broken to pieces.

The unified light elder, waging war with the mutants, immediately registered the destruction of its temple as well.

The temple held its faith, its conviction. And the human insects had, without shame, snuck past the front lines and attacked it?

Its radiance suddenly swelling, the unified light elder brandished its four arms simultaneously, faster and faster, forming a long band of light that than morphed into a hollow sphere that encircled all the mutants surrounding it.

“Those who dare to touch the temple will go to hell!” The unified light elder unleashed an incomparable burst of radiation that wrapped around each mutant, targeting their brains, making it feel like their heads had been impaled and cut open.

In that moment, Mozun was the closest to the unified light elder and could see for the first time how the unified light elder was joined together.

Countless bands of light generated from the abdomen, twining the spines together.

Raptly focused, never mind his skull was about to split open and his mecha had mostly fallen away, Mozun raised one last working mecha arm and opened fire on the unified light elder’s gut with a light cannon.

“Bzzt…”

The white fog had long since been dispersed, and the moment the other mutants saw what Mozun was doing, they also fired at the same spot.

Its radiance abruptly darkened, but then the unified light elder released even more intense rays.

The last bits of his mecha stripped away from him by the Saer’s latest burst, Mozun gathered his remaining energy and used his final attack, shooting a massive gamma ray towards the unified light elder.

Each mutant followed suit, employing what strength they had left to bombard the target.

Far off in a warship, Wen Nuo watched the scene in astonishment. The huge ball of light sometimes shone brightly, sometime dimmed, while the grotesque body at the center showed two faces twisted with vile ferocity. Yet that dual expression slowly turned pained, then finally to piteous wailing.

Every ship picked up the ear-piercing sound.

And in a flash, electronic devices were fried.

The giant ball of light began to collapse in on itself, the unified light elder separating back into two……

Wen Nuo couldn’t see the rest.

But he knew—the unified light elder was dead.

The second the unified light elder’s body separated, Mozun exhausted the last of his strength, obliterating the two bodies in one go.

“Hoo……” Knowing the unified light elder truly gone, Mozun fainted, drifting in empty space.

Wen Nuo hurriedly ordered search teams to retrieve the mutants, as well as any salvageable ships.

However it was easier said than done, as all their electronic equipment was toasted, making finding anyone on the vast cosmic battlefield virtually impossible.

It was then, fortuitously, that the Wagelei ships returned.

Thousands of the small ships emerged from the starry depths. The Ghost soldiers were back.

As soon as Wu Xingyun found that Mozun’s location was unknown and that Federal warships were inoperative due to the unified light elder’s dying electromagnetic attack, Wu Xingyun didn’t stop to think, but immediately jumped back into his ship to find Mozun.

The Wagelei ships set off again, finding mutants scattered in every direction, exhausted beyond all measure after their battle and unable to move.

Wu Xingyun searched, circled back and searched again, until he finally saw Mozun drifting by the dead body of a Duodao warrior.

Caring about nothing else, Wu Xingyun jumped out his ship without even a safety belt and moved toward Mozun.

Wen Nuo had spotted Mozun at almost the same time Wu Xingyun had. For a moment Wen Nuo had considered killing Mozun then and there.

Instead he watched Wu Xingyun rush to Mozun and tightly embrace the mutant. Watched the two men passionately kissing, like the survivors of a disaster that they were. While the only thing Wen Nuo could clearly hear was the sound of his own heart breaking.

The battle against the Saer was over, and the majority of the Federation’s combat troops had sacrificed their lives. Whereas the Demon Army controlled almost all the people.

The future would belong to the Night Shard.

Where would Wen Nuo put his convictions? Could he live in peace with those who’d killed three generations of his ancestors?

If he couldn’t, what was he to do?

Even though the Wagelei ship he was in still had functioning communication, Wen Nuo stared blankly ahead in silence, his thoughts confused.

When it was all said and done, the Federation would cease to exist……wouldn’t it?

He didn’t know.

" "

Until another blindingly radiant light once more spat out from the abyss.

Wu Xingyun dragged his mutant back to his Wagelei ship, and there both men also witnessed the scene playing out in the distance.

In the chaos and confusion of the unified light elder’s death, the other two light elders had fled, taking the advantage to recoup.

Mozun, Wen Nuo, and even Liu Meng had believed the light elders would have to go lick their wounds for at least a little while.

Yet contrary to the humans’ predictions, the light elders were back and putting on an alarming display.

Because of the distance, no one been able to detect the light elders with the naked eye. They saw it now though—the icy blue rays emitting from the Saer.

The pale blue light shone around the two light elders, their clothes and ornaments burning away, their bodies getting closer and closer. Mozun hurriedly used the ship’s image detection and it was as he feared. The two light elders, arms held open wide, were about to make true union……

Mozun’s expression grew horrified, and soldiers in their Wagelei ships felt cold sweat on their foreheads.

If the two light elders were successful—there would be another unified light elder.

And the tide of the war would turn against humanity.

Barely able to move, Mozun had used up everything he’d had to defeat the first unified light elder. Meanwhile the other mutants were no better off than he was.

The Federation warships were still out of commission, and the Wagelei ships’ main advantage was their speed. What weapons did they have at their disposal?

" "

No, another unified light elder meant a crushing defeat from which they’d likely never recover.

Their victory turning to dust before them, Wu Xingyun and Mozun stared at each other in speechless dismay.

When unexpectedly a low, calm voice stated: “I’ll go.”

The voice of Wen Nuo.

It took Wu Xingyun a moment to react: “What?!”

Wen Nuo’s tone was still unperturbed, but on the screen his mien was unbending: “The only ships we can use right now are the Wagelei ships. And I remember the Night Shard saying a nuclear bomb can kill light elders. Someone just has to get extremely close before detonating the bomb. So we need a volunteer to get in there, destroy the Saer, and prevent another unified light elder. I……will be that volunteer.”
