DPM Chapter 16-Invitation Part 2
Translated by Snowfall77

After saying these words, Liu Meng turned away, his attitude mild but not particularly cordial. He walked about ten steps away, before suddenly turning back and gazing at Wu Xingyun.

“Is there a problem?” Wu Xingyun asked.

Liu Meng didn’t answer, just regarded Wu Xingyun for a moment with strange eyes, then continued on his way.

Wu Xingyun shrugged it off. The pressing concern was establishing a base to facilitate the survival of ordinary Federation people in this wilderness.

The miners managed to detect usable ore abut a thousand meters away. Finally, Wu Xingyun and the other soldiers would have way to replenish their energy stores. They extracted and crushed the ore, refined it by machine, and doled it out to combat suits and various recovered dowry items.

Digging machines were started up, and soldiers booted up computers, analyzing surrounding natural resources and the best building methods.

The astronomer, also with the help of a computer, studied the planet’s climate. Mechanics repurposed weapons, taking components and assembling construction machinery.

Farmers were already busy hunting, intent on restocking their food stores, identifying clean water and anything edible.

Accustomed to their era of space exploration and high technical, scientific advancement, the Federation people worked fast, incomparable to ancient human beings.

Twenty-four hours later, the base was fully built, standard Federal size of about ten thousand square meters. The small scale was commonly used on planets newly pioneered.

The interior contained equipment storage areas, separated living quarters, canteen, various command posts and a dormitory.
An engineer added a special ‘bride’ room for Wu Xingyun, as well as a small room to hold Ouyang Liu.

When Ouyang Liu woke up to find himself locked in a cell, he was alarmed. Incessantly clanging the handcuffs on the iron door, he started with threatening rants, later repeatedly bellowing Wu Xingyun’s name until he exhausted himself. Finally, he plopped down and whined for food and water.

They were kindly supplied. Chewing on roasted meat, Ouyang Liu admitted to himself that things weren’t looking good. He had to think of a way to turn his situation around.

While Ouyang Liu inwardly schemed, Wu Xingyun was fretting.

They still couldn’t contact the Federation. The physicist claimed the magnetic field surrounding the planet was too strong for radio waves to cross, let alone space warp. They’d have to set up a large signal station.

However, taking into consideration their manpower and planet condition, that would take at least a month.

Wu Xingyun had always liked to laugh. To grin. Yet since he’d learned he’d be marrying Mozun, the Night Shard, he hadn’t laughed much. Now, he couldn’t even muster a smile.

His eyebrows pinched together. Things were an ungodly mess. The Federation didn’t know to change the Marshal’s travel route. Wu Xingyun needed to report about the whole matter as quickly as possible, request orders and execute them.

Ouyang Liu had to be extradited, another thing that couldn’t be done yet. And the next day Wu Xingyun was getting married!

“We’ll save all the information for now and deal with it later,” Lu Hai said as he locked up the trial documentation for Ouyang Liu. “There’s no point in worrying about it right now. There’s nothing else we can do at this point. Instead, your priority should be preparing for your wedding.”

“Wedding, my ass!” Wu Xingyun thought, feeling hard-pressed, when a soldier’s voice came through the conference room entry. “Report! The Night Shard has arrived and requested to see the interim-Marshal.”

Covering his head with both hands, Wu Xingyun responded: “I feel ill seeing him, let me see him one time less……Tell him we’ll be getting married tomorrow and I’ll abide by our agreement. But right now I’m busy and don’t have time.”

“You’re busy?” Mozun’s voice rang out, loud enough almost the whole base could hear it.

""

Having forgotten how sharp Mozun’s senses were, Wu Xingyun regretted badmouthing his groom behind his back. Perhaps the next time, Wu Xingyun ruminated to himself, he should only complain with at least a five hundred meter distance?

“If you don’t come out, I’m going to come in. And I don’t think you want your new base, that you worked so hard on, to be destroyed just yet , right?” Anger lacing Mozun’s words.

Wu Xingyun put on his hat, straightened his collar, and bucked himself up. About to answer Mozun, he abruptly heard Ouyang Liu shrieking from his cell: “Master Mozun, you’ve come! Save me! These scoundrels have locked me up, Master Mozun, rescue me……”

Having always felt that he wasn’t suitable to be a grand chief, but more a team leader, Wu Xingyun found his current reality quite cruel.

If Wen Nuo had come, things wouldn’t be this bad, would they?

Wu Xingyun’s thoughts weighed him down as he walked out of the base.

Outside the base, spread grassy plains. They’d been the site of much activity earlier in the day. Now the sun was setting, turning them gold and vermillion. His inky silhouette pooling long in the dwindling light, Mozun stood in an empty field, clad in black, with his black hair casually tied back, cold eyes examining the meticulously dressed soldier coming towards him.

The retiring sun stole both the men’s shadows, as Wu Xingyun approached, merging them together onto the ground, like inseparable lovers.

Mozun’s eyes narrowed, and his face slightly paled.

He couldn’t not hear Ouyang Liu’s racket, crying for help, and he had come to check on the matter.

He wasn’t a kind or magnanimous man. Hurt him, he would retaliate.

The Ouyang family was no exception. And the soldier in front of him…No exception either.

All of Mozun’s calculations had come to fruition, the way he’d planned. Everything, but this sight. A soldier with a serious expression, firmly striding towards him, echoing a scene from many years ago.

Shaken, Mozun’s heart thawed a little. Changing from his original purpose, he told Wu Xingyun, while extending a hand: “Sunsets here on Yuanxing are beautiful. I thought you might like it, so I came over to show you personally.”

Wu Xingyun did not take Mozun’s hand. “Did you come for any other reason?”

Mozun contemplated the soldier in front of him. There had been something else to discuss, but at the moment it had faded in significance.

Shaking his head, Mozun said, “No other reason. Just thought to…spend some time with you, the invitation of a fiancé. I won’t force you.”

Standing ramrod straight, with a somber face, Wu Xingyun replied: “I’m sorry. Our agreement does not include accompanying each other to look at scenery this evening.” Snapping a salute at Mozun, Wu Xingyun turned about-face and marched away, showing Mozun his back.

Which was turning into an irritating weak spot for Mozun.
