DPM Chapter 19-Caught in the Act Part 1
Translated by Snowfall77

Wu Xingyun slumbered deeply and dreamlessly, his whole body in comfort.

When he opened his eyes, it felt like he’d slept for a long time. However, according to a clock by the window, he’d only been sleeping about a half hour.

The bedroom was empty. Unable to locate his previous outfit, Wu Xingyun opened Mozun’s wardrobe, finding a shirt to put on.

The shirt hung big on Wu Xingyun. But at least it covered his bum.

After getting dressed, Wu Xingyun opened the curtains, the sunset languidly streaming in. He stepped out onto the balcony, studying the scene.
On the small road stretching out, maple trees’ red leaves fluttered in the breeze, wooden benches dotted here and there. It all seemed warm and peaceful.

Until Wu Xingyun spotted a person. Lu Hai, wearing civilian clothing.

Lu Hai was frantically glancing left and right, searching for something. His expression clearly anxious, while he’d occasionally wipe sweat from his forehead, even though the weather was mild.

Immediately Wu Xingyun jumped down from the second floor, running towards Lu Hai. Lu Hai should have been back at the Federation base, preparing for the team’s return flight. Not appearing on Mozun’s residential street.

For Lu Hai to be there, it meant something had gone wrong.

Seeing Wu Xingyun, Lu Hai rushed towards him also. When they stood in front of each other, Lu Hai gasped: “It’s no good, we’ve got a major problem!”

Wu Xingyun’s heart about jumped out his chest. “What’s the matter? Is Mozun……”

Lu Hai shook his head. “No, the Night Shard is still celebrating with the other mutants. It’s Ouyang Liu!”

“What happened with Ouyang Liu?”

“He……Stole our ship!”

Lu Hai quickly filled Wu Xingyun in.

When the live broadcast had ended, and Wu Xingyun was whisked away by Mozun, Lu Hai and the others had returned to base.
They’d towed the spacecraft along with them, then started packing it with supplies and combat weapons, including the records of Ouyang Liu’s treason.

After they’d finished their preparations, they’d opened Ouyang Liu’s cell, to escort him onboard. Only to find him gone. Also suddenly missing was their loaded ship.

Obviously, Ouyang Liu filched the spacecraft. How he’d escaped from his cell, evaded the ship’s guards, and flown it away, who knew?

However, both Wu Xingyun and Lu Hai were skeptical that Mozun had nothing to do with it.

Ouyang Liu would have needed the help of an outsider to pull such a thing off. And Mozun was the one who had the ability, favorable conditions, and motive.

“Now what?” Lu Hai asked urgently. Their combat suits were on the vanished ship. If the craft had indeed been silently pilfered by Ouyang Liu, then they were looking at spending three months to half a year more on Yuanxing. It’d take at least that long to make another ship.

Most important were the records of Ouyang Liu’s treachery. If he had them, he could destroy them, or manipulate them to make mischief. He’d be sure to distort the truth somehow.

Moreover, without their combat suits, Lu Hai and the others had no practical way to pursue him.

The only thing for Lu Hai to do had been to come and find Wu Xingyun.

Because Wu Xingyun’s combat suits and weapons had remained in his possession, being part of his dowry.

Wu Xingyun, for his part, after listening to Lu Hai, felt no hesitation. He would go and get Ouyang Liu back.

It’d only been about ten minutes since Ouyang Liu’s escape. He couldn’t have left the planet yet.

Perhaps he’d be busy negotiating with Mozun, making some shady deal. After all, Mozun apparently wanted the ‘big secret,’ the gem of information Ouyang Liu was withholding.

“Ai Lan has custody of my dowry, ten combat suits included. Let’s gather our people quick, get suited up, then we’ll be able to find Ouyang Liu and the ship,” said Wu Xingyun.

Soon enough, Wu Xingyun, Lu Hai, and the other guards were in the warehouse, getting fully armed.

Wu Xingyun was about to don a regular combat suit, when he abruptly noticed his Ghost equipment.

He’d been the one to require it being part of his dowry.

Ghost soldiers’ suits had far greater stealth functions than a normal combat suit. They could emit a shot that locked its target, freezing time and space around the quarry. For a brief moment of time, the target wouldn’t be able to move, and the Ghost solider could strike at will. The Ghost combat suit was the most advanced infantry equipment of the Federation. The dowry contained only one, but it was Wu Xingyun’s own.

Wu Xingyun vacillated, then chose his Ghost suit.

When searching for Ouyang Liu, Wu Xingyun might encounter Mozun. The Ghost suit would enable Wu Xingyun to avoid Mozun’s keen awareness.

Or perhaps, at a critical moment, the freeze function would be useful.

Expeditiously gearing up, Wu Xingyun knew all the suits were fully charged, but he couldn’t help worrying about squandering valuable energy.

Nevertheless, they started their hunt.

Yuanxing was about the size of the old Earth, where humans had originated. Ten people scouring it for a single person wouldn’t be easy, but it wouldn’t be too difficult either. Yuanxing was so sparsely populated, most of its inhabitants still at the wedding banquet.
Therefore, Wu Xingyun and his team wouldn’t have to locate their target in crowded conditions.

Starting his booster, taking the wedding venue as the center, Wu Xingyun began a circular search pattern.

Moving fast, maintaining contact with his guards, he monitored his scanner.

They were flying three to four times faster than the speed of sound, and before long they’d covered half the planet.

It hadn’t yet been dark, and the sky seemed to brighten. Wu Xingyun knew it was because Yuanxing’s rotation was slower than them, therefore they shouldn’t have to worry about losing the light.

Yet in spite of this, they still weren’t detecting Ouyang Liu or the purloined ship.

Anxiety simmered within Wu Xingyun. Had Ouyang Liu already left Yuanxing?

Wu Xingyun quashed the thought down. He’d just swung by the Federation base, and according to the base readings, nothing had recently flown off planet.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Wu Xingyun’s radar flashed consistently and frustratingly, finding nothing.

“Report! I’ve found the whereabouts of the Night Shard!” A team member’s voice suddenly sounded in Wu Xingyun’s headset. “One kilometer away from me. Unsure of Ouyang Liu’s presence. Please indicate whether I should continue approaching. Over.”

Wu Xingyun immediately checked the team member’s position. Not too far from himself.

“Don’t approach!” Wu Xingyun replied. “The Night Shard’s senses are extraordinary. He’ll detect you within five hundred meters. I’ll go!”
