DPM Chapter 24-Construction Part 2
Translated by Snowfall77

Then the mechanic chimed in: “I hope to be able to mine all the minerals throughout the planet, and when the meteor flows passes by, since they’re made of pure metal ore, I hope……It’s easy for you anyways, if you could get some meteorites down here, otherwise there’s stuff we can’t build.”

Next was a farmer. “The land here isn’t right, it’s not suitable for growing human food. I intend to develop more arable land. Although we’re not many and we can’t eat much……But we and our offspring are going to live here, and I want to improve the environment and eat better.”

The farmer’s rank was on level with Wu Xingyun’s, therefore according to relevant regulations, Wu Xingyun could interrupt. Which he did, trying to correct the farmer’s mistakes: “We won’t be staying here too long. And……I’ve heard that if humans want to reproduce, they need a basic population of at least a thousand……There aren’t enough people here, almost no women, the biologists are losing it again, and asexual reproduction won’t work……”

The farmer stopped talking, getting gloomy and taciturn for a minute.

However, a popular Federal proverb was ‘you don’t break the silence, you’ll perish in silence.’

So the farmer burst back: “I, your elder, want to eat something good! Farming! I want to farm! I’ve had enough of eating wild vegetables and compressed food every day! I’ll make two bowls of soy milk, drink one bowl and pour one bowl, can you control it? You and I are not in the same department!”

Wu Xingyun closed his mouth. He wanted to say that the Federation hadn’t allowed them to develop agricultural technology on Yuanxing, and they shouldn’t leak classified information just so they could drink a ton of soy milk. But the farmer’s irritated outburst reminded Wu Xingyun that he wasn’t gifted with words. It’d be best if he didn’t speak.

The meeting continued. However, after watching the farmer go a little berserk, the gathering devolved out of control, the original intention of asking for permission for the signal station lost in the clatter of planetary transformation plans.

Finally, everybody came to the conclusion that they must transform this wild, backward planet into a high-tech Yuanxing, suitable for human survival and development within a year, with fertile farmland, animal husbandry, tourism, while life sciences, space sciences, and nuclear sciences progressed apace. They had to live here, but it was too backwards, and no one could adapt to that.

After they’d done a full draft of their grand plan, the room fell quiet, with everyone watching Mozun.

Through their period of contact with Mozun, the Federal people had come to think that the legendary demon wasn’t quite as terrible as the propaganda had made him out to be.

True, he’d left them on an aerial platform, in limbo for days and nights. And made a variety of threats.

Yet he really hadn’t gone that far.

A shadowy, unknowable demon was one thing, but facing a demon who had yet to lose his temper was another. Surely, things could be discussed……

Mozun had been quietly listening throughout the whole meeting. When it reached its final stages, and everyone looked at him, he twisted his head to regard Wu Xingyun, who was standing in the corner.

His eyes unusually tender, Mozun asked in a permissive tone: “Soldier, do you agree with this plant transformation plan?”

Wu Xingyun knew he lacked eloquence, but he couldn’t avoid Mozun’s question. He had to express his position.

Casting timid glances at the farmers who might run amok at any time, along with the scientists immersed in their futuristic fantasies, Wu Xingyun painfully squeezed out his words. “I……I think we should set up a signal station first, and then……Then follow the directions of our superiors.”

The corners of Mozun’s mouth quirked up. He got out of his seat, wrapping an arm around Wu Xingyun’s shoulder, and said: “Then nothing is allowed except the establishment of a signal station. Nothing else! The planet development plan is very good, but neither I nor my man like it. No need to mention it again!”

Having said that, Mozun went to leave, trying to turn Wu Xingyun with him. However, Wu Xingyun refused to move, thinking that if he left with Mozun right then, he’d be suspected as a Federal traitor. Instead, he should stay and face the storm of anger over all the aborted plans.

So Mozun bowed his head slightly and breathed into Wu Xingyun’s ear: “Solider, your task is being married to me. Now, you’d better continue your mission, which is taking a rest with me, and nothing else. I hope you don’t let your impulses take over, but instead do your job well.”

“I’m going to stay at the base tonight. I want to talk to the mechanic about the specifics of the signal station,” Wu Xingyun replied.
Mozun’s mouth twitched, seemingly amused. “Alright. I’ll stay here with you.”

No longer hesitating, Wu Xingyun walked towards his room.

Leaving the conference as it peaked in high dudgeon.

Sighs, complaints, regrets and strong political opinions were emphatically expressed.

The miner: “Why should it be a soldier deciding what we should and shouldn’t do? We should be democratic and vote!”

Ai Lan: “I’ve known it, this is dictatorial militarism. Alas, Wu Xingyun, this soldier, acts too excessive, always having to listen to his superiors……No implementing plans without obeying commands!”

The two scientists: “Federal bureaucracy is too cumbersome. Who knows how much time it’ll take to get documents approved……Listen to their instructions……By then, the research plan might not stand a chance……”

“Just as I said, we shouldn’t have let some brainless soldier come and marry……Like you stated, besides obeying orders, what else would he do?”

“Ahhh! Come on, our escort was the military……The military is going control here too…….”

“I want to go back now! I will submit a return application when the signal stations is completed.”

“I’m hungry……”

“I want to grow fields, I’m a farmer, dammit! I’m done identifying edible wild plants and hunting……”

“It’s getting late, we should rest……”

“Coming to this barren planet, the amusement is terrible! Ugh……Let’s go to bed. Everyone for washing and sleeping, raise your hand!”

" "

Most agreed to the ‘go to bed’ motion, only a few opposing.

Therefore, according to the principles of democratic voting, in which the minority submits to the majority, everyone adjourned for the night.

In Wu Xingyun’s room, though, there was no easy way to wash up and get some shuteye.

Mozun was stubbornly there, turning on the light.

The room contained just one desk, one chair, one wardrobe, plus a single bed.

Being conscientiously economical and knowing resources were scarce, Wu Xingyun hadn’t asked for a bunk bed.

But now, watching Mozun close his bedroom door, Wu Xingyun felt embarrassed.

A single bed made things difficult.

Mozun leaned against the door, checking out the room. The furnishing were simple, and the bed was neatly made, quilt folded like a tofu block, with a buckled belt placed on top of it.

Mozun’s eyes darkened. He walked slowly to the bed, and sat down with his back against the wall.

Wu Xingyun, ever proper, said: “There is discipline. You’re usually not allowed to sit on the bed, you sit on the chair.”

Not moving, Mozun quietly stared at Wu Xingyun. Then a minute later, he suddenly got up and pulled Wu Xingyun into his arms, pressing Wu Xingyun down on the mattress.

“This isn’t a usual time, it’s……Newlywed honeymoon……” Mozun’s voice was hoarse, black eyes like an endless ocean. “Don’t push me away, I said I won’t force you……I just want to hold you for a while……”
