DPM Chapter 26-Life After Marriage Part 4
Translated by Snowfall77

Mozun slowly raised Wu Xingyun’s hand and brought it to his lips, giving it a gentle kiss. “I don’t want to fight now, especially since you’re by my side. I only hope we can stay like this, forever peaceful, just living our life. It doesn’t matter if there’s no future, no hope, as long as you’re around.”

Wu Xingyun’s pulse thumped wildly. He looked at Mozun confusedly, at the man who made almost everyone shudder, his name enough to chill a person to the bone. Now wearing casual clothes, Mozun’s eyes were gentle, with a magnetic low voice, speaking words that drilled right to the bottom of Wu Xingyun’s heart.

“But……But I won’t stay with you for the rest of your lifetime. I’ll die earlier than you……” Wu Xingyun felt it necessary to remind Mozun. Mozun’s ‘forever’ and Wu Xingyun’s ‘forever’ did not have the same meaning.

Mozun nodded: “Yes, I’ll be……Still alive, always alive……” As he spoke, Mozun gradually let go of Wu Xingyun’s hand, put his own hands in his pants pockets, and turned away. Pulled by the streetlights, his shadow stretched long and lonely.

Standing still in the dimness, Wu Xingyun watched Mozun’s back go further and further away, feeling like he’d said something he shouldn’t have.

Whether Mozun’s words were true or false, Wu Xingyun didn’t know. Yet Wu Xingyun believed that, for a moment, he’d seen Mozun’s true frame of mind. Those few words of Mozun’s had been the truth. Perhaps there would never be eternal peace like both sides anticipated. But at least Mozun had once wanted it, sincerely desired it.

Wu Xingyun ran towards that solitary back. He stopped when he reached Mozun’s side, turning his head to beam at Mozun.

Not being talkative, Wu Xingyun didn’t say anything. He just gave Mozun his smile, and Mozun returned it.

Mozun stretched out an arm that circled around Wu Xingyun, patting him on the shoulder: “The place you choose to practice isn’t any good. I’ll take you to a better place. You’ll love it there.”

“Alright.” Wu Xingyun dipped his head.

Half an hour later, the two men came to a huge stadium in the center of the city.

Unlike the stadiums Wu Xingyun was used to, the six directions of the stadium were closed, the surrounding walls flowing with faint blue light, semitransparent in appearance.

Mozun took Wu Xingyun to stand in the center of the square, where Wu Xingyun saw that it had a diameter of about two kilometers, unusually wide, with no obstructions.

“Here is our usual practice area,” Mozun told Wu Xingyun, “The walls are perfused with my own energy. It’s a strong defense, no one on the planet can destroy it except for me. Here, you won’t get any interference. You can completely clear your mind, learn from experience the essence of martial arts.”

Wu Xingyun scratched his head: “What martial arts?”

Mozun explained. “To do everything, you need to calm down. Focus is the most important skill. When you’re shooting, you’re very focused. But when you were going through your taolu movements, it was much worse. Even though the movements are standard, there’s no soul. Your training is completely composed of dullness and fearlessness, relying solely on willpower. There’s no feeling the delight. I felt tired after watching you. I really can’t bear it, I just want to teach you a little.”

Wu Xingyun immediately accepted the criticism. His mind was clear on one thing. Mozun was the leader of the mutants, a demon with extraordinary, unrivaled power. In beginning of the war between the Federation and the Alliance, Mozun had fought without any knowledge of military strategies. He’d won battles solely on the virtue of his personal courage. When it came to martial fighting, Mozun was first in the universe.

However, in the Federation, everyone believed that Mozun’s strength came purely from his mutation. Now Wu Xingyun heard Mozun say that assumption wasn’t quite right. Part of what made Mozun so difficult to deal with , wasn’t just that he was a mutant, but also because of his comprehensive practice of Wu (tai chi).

“I’ve never been impressed with Federal military training. You know why?” Mozun, expression very patient, sat in the center of stadium with Wu Xingyun.

Wu Xingyun was all ears.

“Because their instruction isn’t designed to strengthen the human body. Instead, in a short period of time, they train a large number of disposable soldiers, and throw them onto the battlefield to fight as a ‘human wave attack’. I’ve studied. When Federal soldiers retire, they’ll often have a variety of physical problems. And there are many veterans who, even if not injured, can’t go onto the battlefield in their forties, right?”

Wu Xingyun had to admit to himself that, while the Federation’s research on Mozun was in-depth, Mozun had extensive knowledge of the Federation too.

After all, the one who knows you best is not your friend, but rather your enemy.

For the rest of the time, Mozun taught Wu Xingyun how to punch. And, what luck, how best to exert the power of the moves.

In the spacious, almost-empty square, the halo of blue lights steadily streamed, illuminating the two men.

Sometimes Mozun acted as a human sandbag for Wu Xingyun’s fists. They quarreled and laughed. Mostly though, the only sound was that of palms stirring the air.

Finally, Wu Xingyun smoothly finished a set of commonly used boxing moves.

As to be expected, he felt tired, yet along with his physical fatigue, was also a sense of comfortableness.

Mozun handed Wu Xingyun his jacket, saying: “Come on, it’s late. Time to go back and rest. Don’t forget that you have to record a video for the Federation tomorrow.”

Shrugging on his coat, Wu Xingyun followed Mozun out of the stadium, asking: “The things you’ve taught me, I……Can I report them to the Federation?”

Completely unconcerned, Mozun said: “Whatever you want. The Federation won’t listen to your suggestions anyways.” Then Mozun seemed to think of something amusing, and started laughing to himself.

Wu Xingyun was baffled. He asked Mozun what was so funny, but Mozun just kept laughing, not answering Wu Xingyun’s question. Instead, Mozun’s laughter increased. Apparently, he was unable to stop himself.

It continued all the way, until they were back at Mozun’s house.

Taking a shower, Wu Xingyun couldn’t take it anymore. He asked through the glass door: “You’ve been laughing this long, what about? You’re not going to keep it up all night, are you?”

Still highly amused at his own imagination, Mozun finally told: “I was thinking, you have to report everything to the Federation. What if, in the future, you stop in the middle of sex and say, ‘Uh……Ah……I want……Oh……Write a report……Well……Don’t……How to write hard and long……Ah……’”

Bang.

The shower door opened, and Wu Xingyun came out covered with a soaked-through t-shirt, foam still on his head. He walked up to smiling, happy Mozun and punched him right in the face, soap bubbles flying.

The laughter finally stopped.

Wu Xingyun went back into the shower and continued washing himself. Water making rivulets on his skin, he reflected that his punching technique had seemed just right, while the speed had been almost perfect. Thanks to Mozun’s tutelage, his martial art skills had indeed improved.

WU
The Wu or Wu (Hao)-style (Chinese: 武氏 or 武/郝氏; pinyin: Wǔshì or wǔ/hǎoshì) of t’ai chi ch’uan of Wu Yuxiang (1813–1880), is a separate family style from the more popular Wu-style (吳氏) of Wu Chien-ch’üan. Wu Yuxiang’s style was third among the five t’ai chi ch’uan families in seniority and is fifth in terms of popularity.
Wu Yu-hsiang’s t’ai chi ch’uan is a distinctive style with small, subtle movements; highly focused on balance, sensitivity and internal ch’i development. It is a rare style today, especially compared with the other major styles.

human wave attack
The human wave attack, also known as the human sea attack,[1] is an offensive infantry tactic in which an attacker conducts an unprotected frontal assault with densely concentrated infantry formations against the enemy line, intended to overrun and overwhelm the defenders by engaging in melee combat. The name refers to the concept of a coordinated mass of soldiers falling upon an enemy force and sweeping them away with sheer weight and momentum, like an ocean wave breaking on a beach.
