DPM Chapter 26-Life After Marriage Part 3
Translated by Snowfall77

Mozun glanced at Wu Xingyun. Wu Xingyun obviously didn’t like the weapon in Peng Dawei’s hand. Mozun then told Peng Dawei: “Put that aside. Don’t practice with it for the next two days.”

Peng Dawei promptly threw the knife thousands of meters away. As the blade traversed, it cut a red arc of light through the distorted atmosphere.

When Peng Dawei’s knife had disappeared from sight, he turned to Mozun, puzzled by Mozun’s orders: “Why? I recently broke through the sixth level of the nine-fold thunder knife. I should be practicing, now is the time to greatly increase my skills……”

Mozun gave Peng Dawei a look, and Peng Dawei immediately dropped it. “It’s up to you, Chief.”

Nodding, Mozun said: “I want to make some videos with Wu Xingyun for commemoration, and I couldn’t find a suitable cameraman. There’s no one else on planet better suited than you. So take one day a week to tape something, the rest of your time is your own.”

Mozun looked around the area for a minute, then spoke again, his voice very calm: “I remember I once said to practice martial arts at specified training areas. No one is allowed to train in the wild, in order not to make a mess of this planet. Go to Liu Meng and take your penalty. Don’t make me do it myself.”

Beads of sweat ran down Peng Dawei’s forehead, even though Mozun maintained his serene demeanor. As he replied, Peng Dawei dipped his head repeatedly: “Chief, you can rest assured, I will no longer dare to violate the rules. And I’ll help with your videos. You and elder brother……It’ll be filmed well.”

Making a noncommittal grunt, Mozun threw Wu Xingyun’s timer to Peng Dawei, then told the other mutant: “Three days from now, at 7am, clean up and come to my house. Don’t be late.” After that, Wu Xingyun and Mozun returned to the aircraft.

On the way back, Wu Xingyun couldn’t help himself and asked Mozun: “I heard……At your best, you can blast the energy of a gamma-ray burst……Is it true? Your intensity is stronger than Peng Dawei’s just now?”

Mozun didn’t answer. Instead, he turned to look at Wu Xingyun.

Even slow-on-the-uptake Wu Xingyun realized that those might have been the wrong questions as Mozun’s deep, black eyes indignantly bored a hole in him.

Gradually, Mozun’s anger turned to regret. “If it hadn’t been for a lurking Ghost soldier shooting me, then we mutants would have won.”

Wu Xingyun bowed his head, afraid that Mozun would settle old accounts. That would inevitably result in Wu Xingyun becoming a glorious sacrifice.

Even if sacrificing one’s life brought honor and glory, in the present circumstances, Wu Xingyun wasn’t reconciled.

However, Mozun’s mouth slowly approached Wu Xingyun’s ear, warm breath spilling all over Wu Xingyun’s neck: “But if that were the case, you wouldn’t have married me. So, this ending is not bad……”

Wu Xingyun’s heartbeat inexplicably accelerated. He silently speculated to himself as he piloted the aircraft. A vindictive man like Mozun would have caught Wu Xingyun after fully conquering the Federation. At that time, after Mozun found that Wu Xingyun looked like his old lover, he might have turned Wu Xingyun into his exclusive property. That would have been worse. Things probably were better the way they were at present.

Mozun, catching the distressed Wu Xingyun’s embarrassed expression, was pleased with himself. He smiled softly, reaching an arm around Wu Xingyun’s shoulders. “In fact, I think the best way to show the intimacy between two people is to have sex. Did your leaders instruct you to please me well in bed? In order to maintain the relationship between both sides?”

The whole of Wu Xingyun’s person tensed up. He viciously glared at Mozun, only adding to Mozun’s pleasant mood, causing him to burst out laughing.

That evening, instead of going about his own business as usual, Mozun changed into sportswear, accompanying Wu Xingyun on his evening drills.

They ran first, Wu Xingyun getting sweaty, while Mozun remained pristine. Next, after observing Wu Xingyun’s marksmanship, Mozun theatrically sighed: “Your shooting is pretty good.”

Wu Xingyun groaned. “I’m a Ghost soldier. My shooting performance and concealment capability are ranked at the top of the entire Federation army.”

His lips quirking up, Mozun handed Wu Xingyun a long-prepared cup: “If you’re tired, drink some water.”

Wu Xingyun emptied the cup in one gulp, then continued his regime. Mozun kept watching, surrounded by continuous gunfire, noting that Wu Xingyun trained himself quite harshly.

After Wu Xingyun’s shooting training was over, he began his martial training.

He’d selected a lawn belonging to no one, where he could practice taolu (solo form of Tai Chi). Normally, when Wu Xingyun did this, no one was around. Having Mozun gawking at him made Wu Xingyun feel uncomfortable.

Especially when Mozun rattled off a couple questions.

“What’s the point of Federal army training here? Can you still fight me one-on-one?”

That last question caused Wu Xingyun maximum disturbance, making him wonder if indeed all his training was meaningless. His movements got worse and worse, until he couldn’t bear to meet Mozun’s gaze.

Mozun, on the other hand, getting a good long look at the diligent, but floundering solider under the streetlights, suddenly offered: “Do you want me to teach you some things?”

“Huh?” Wu Xingyun stopped his increasingly bad form of taolu, saying: “You……Teach me? No matter how hard I try, I can’t be as good as you. I can split a brick at most, you……I heard them say you can tear apart a warship with your bare hands……”

Mozun smiled helplessly. “Who spread that rumor? Even if I had that power, it wouldn’t be necessary. A blade would split it open faster.”

Sighing, Wu Xingyun gave Mozun a timid glance. The man was taller, far better-looking. In front of him, Wu Xingyun was nothing special.

“They all said that the last Marshal was in the command ship, when you tore it apart, and he suffocated to death……” Wu Xingyun told Mozun.

His tone turned comforting, Mozun replied: “What a disorderly mess of a rumor. I remember your Federation has war reports. Wasn’t he removed from combat and sentenced to exile on the edge of the galaxy because of suspected collusion? Didn’t his ship encounter a meteorite storm and that’s how he died?”

Wu Xingyun only made a low ‘hmm’ sound, at loss of what else to say.

Mozun stepped forward, standing beside Wu Xingyun: “War isn’t child’s play, killing is common……I’ve killed many people in the Federation, most of them soldiers like you, who joined the army without any inkling. After a short training period, they were thrown onto the cruel battlefield……”

When he saw Wu Xingyun’s reddened, angry eyes, with fists clenched tight, Mozun stopped speaking for a moment.

He reached out, took Wu Xingyun’s fist, pulled Wu Xingyun’s fingers down and held Wu Xingyun’s hand in his hand, his voice calm: “But the Federation has killed many of us. We mutants can’t have children. Can’t reproduce. At the beginning, we were nearly one hundred thousand. Now, in the entire galaxy, we’re less than a thousand. We’ve lived together for thousands of years, known each other. We’ve been friends for hundreds or thousands of years. Every death, we are one less. The Federation has hundreds of billions of people, who have family and friends. We have nothing. War and killing. Nothing else.”

Wu Xingyun pulled his hand away, staring at Mozun. “I will not sympathize with you!”

“I’m not saying this to win your sympathy,” Mozun replied, “And to be honest, your sympathy is of no use to me at all.”

Tightly clamping his mouth shut, Wu Xingyun felt that man in front of him, with that consistently languid smile, had a heart Wu Xingyun didn’t want to know at all.

Again, Mozun reached out and took Wu Xingyun’s hand. “I’m just saying these things to tell you that talking about goodness, honesty, bloody events, cruelty, and so on is meaningless. Like you, practicing your movements. Their role isn’t to strengthen the body, but to kill. Have you thought about that, when you practice your skills?”

Wu Xingyun did not speak. Mozun added in a low tone: “About the war, can you not mention it again? For you, those things might just be legends, history, textbooks. In my heart, those are some……Very unpleasant memories.”

Making a soft ‘mmm’ noise, Wu Xingyun decided to follow Mozun’s request and not discuss those topics with Mozun. Although, Wu Xingyun’s resolution was him being somewhat deceptive, both to Mozun and himself. As a soldier, Wu Xingyun wasn’t afraid of death, wasn’t afraid of sacrifice. But he didn’t like killing or war.
