DPM Chapter 29-Return Part 2
Translated by Snowfall77

“Mozun, calm down! Calm down!” Someone was yelling, yet Mozun turned a deaf ear, his gaze blood-red, staring fixedly at Wu Xingyun, who’d risen from the rubble.

Surrounded by his ominous, sparking glow, Mozun’s black robe and obsidian hair floated in mid-air, his expression malevolently terrifying.

The gathered mutants watched in horror, taking in the tableau of Wu Xingyun and Mozun at the center of the storm. They wanted to prevent it, but didn’t dare step forward.

“Mozun!” A white-clad Liu Meng swept out of the crowd, rushing to stand between Mozun and Wu Xingyun, his pale skin becoming almost transparent in the fierce blaze of Mozun.

Blocking Wu Xingyun from Mozun, Liu Meng cried: “Mozun, you want to kill us all? Stop it! Are you trying to kill me?”

Mozun slowly switched his gaze to Liu Meng, his voice ringing unusually grim: “You, get out of the way!”

Liu Meng spread his arms wide, saying in a firm tone: “If you want to kill here, then kill me first. I’ll be the first!”

“How hard was it for us to find this planet? How long did it take us to build this city? Mozun, you’re going to destroy it all over a fight with a Federal dog?”

“Calm down! He’d be sad to see you like this!”

Liu Meng shouted himself hoarse, his body trembling, as he half-knelt before Mozun, humbly entreating.

Mozun finally registered his friend pleading in front of him. The violence his heart gradually dispelled. His eyes cleared, the current about him dimming until it disappeared.

Not speaking, his lips pinched together, Mozun took in the debris around him.

For Wu Xingyun’s words had pierced Mozun to the core. Mozun had never felt such anger. In those moments, he’d wanted to kill the people around him, end it all, destroy it all.

However, with his comrades circling him, Mozun managed to calm himself. After all, the sadness in his heart couldn’t grow any greater.

He waved a hand, his voice tired and indifferent: “It’s finished, it’s nothing important.”

The mutants exchanged glances with each other, mumbling amongst themselves before scattering. Only Liu Meng remained in place.

Looking up to the night sky, Mozun took deep breaths. When he’d scrounged up some inner tranquility, he said to Wu Xingyun: “Get lost. Go back to your Federation, I don’t want you anymore.”

Wu Xingyun eyed Mozun cautiously. The wreckage around him brought home the cost of angering Mozun. Although Wu Xingyun’s heart was still indignant, he was afraid to vent any more.

Even though a trace of sadness ached in his heart when he heard Mozun’s final verdict.

Finding his hat in the rubble, Wu Xingyun patted the dust off of it, and placed it on his head. Picking his words carefully, Wu Xingyun said: “The reason I came to you, is……I’ve been called back to the Federation to testify at a trial. I hope you can agree to me going back. The words I said earlier, if they hurt you, I can only say I’m sorry.”

Wu Xingyun saluted towards Mozun, then waited quietly.

Mozun turned aside, not wanting to look at Wu Xingyun. “Go!”

Wu Xingyun began walking towards the base, his figure retreating into the distance. When Mozun knew Wu Xingyun was far enough away, Mozun turned again, watching the soldier’s back.

The soldier’s posture matched the official standard, yet somehow also seemed young and a little awkward. Street lights lit up both sides of the road, casting their lambent rays on the departing person. Mozun remembered that person’s previous words, a burst of grief flowering inwardly.

Standing beside Mozun, Liu Meng also observed Wu Xingyun leaving, asking after a while: “Why are you so angry?”

Mozun didn’t answer.

“Over the years, very few people have been able to provoke you……You……Are you in love with him?”

Mozun maintained his silence.

Liu Meng ceased his questions, the two of them rooted in place for a long time until they saw a bright light shoot straight up to the sky. Wu Xingyun, flown away in a spaceship.

“Wu Xingyun has left,” Liu Meng stated. “He’s too much like that person……I don’t want to see you changing your feelings, falling in love someone else.”

Sighing, Mozun replied: “I……I’m messed up. I don’t know what to do……I can’t forgive myself. I feel I’ve betrayed him, apparently liking someone else.”

Liu Meng reached out, patting Mozun’s shoulder, his voice gentle: “Wu Xingyun is gone. Everything will be better, it’ll all be like it was before.”

“Maybe……” Mozun said lowly. He stood alone in a ruined home, searching for the ship that had torn into the heavens, yet he couldn’t find its trail. A horrible sense of emptiness and loss filled his heart.

For thousands of years, he’d been used to his solitary life. When all at once, Wu Xingyun had emerged, tossing Mozun’s life into chaos.

At first, Mozun had wanted to forget the past, make a new beginning. However, when Liu Meng’s doubts arose, Mozun found he couldn’t put the past behind him. He felt his present behavior was a betrayal of his dead lover.

Therefore, he’d coldly neglected Wu Xingyun, deliberating making things difficult. Mozun hadn’t wanted to fall deeper and deeper. For every time Wu Xingyun aroused Mozun, Mozun’s self-reproach grew.

Now, Wu Xingyun was returning to the Federation, and Mozun was caught in unmatched confusion.

His heart had already been occupied. How could he forgive himself for falling in love with someone else? He couldn’t. Bad enough he’d failed the dead, what made it even worse was that Wu Xingyun was a Federation soldier.

He’d never thought the day would come that he’d betray the person he’d once loved.

Mozun wouldn’t have imagined that this night, when Wu Xingyun wasn’t even on Yuanxing anymore, he’d still be thinking about the soldier.

Since Mozun didn’t need sleep, not that he’d be able to anyways, he stood at the top of the crater, staring at Wu Xingyun’s far-off base residence.

Perhaps, Wu Xingyun was gone and never coming back……

Mozun’s thoughts churned.

When he realized what he was doing, a dull ache rolled through him. Lowering his lids, Wu Xingyun’s words and deeds appeared before Mozun. He saw a dark, plain solider, stubborn, with pure, unyielding eyes, sometimes angry, sometimes laughing. When the soldier smiled, Mozun felt the sunshine. When the soldier was sad, Mozun also felt misery.

Was it love? Mozun shook his head. He didn’t know. Many times he hadn’t been able to distinguish the difference between Wu Xingyun and his past lover. When he’d traveled Yuanxing with Wu Xingyun, Mozun had even felt like his true love had never left.

Now……When he stared up at the stars, everything was gone.

Whether his dead love or Wu Xingyun, they’d left him. Mozun was still that lonely devil, never living in the light.
