DPM Chapter 3-Premarital Training (2) Part 1
Translated by Snowfall77

The two men crossed from the wide corridor into a hall.

The hall was about the size of four football fields, an immense AI at its center. Along the four walls were passages to different star regions.

Wen Nuo went to the central computer and a virtual assistant immediately appeared, a translucent red-haired woman wearing the skirted uniform of female officers. The projection saluted: “Please show your identification number.”

Wen Nuo held his hand up in front of the assistant. Her eyes, aiming blue light, scanned Wen Nuo’s palm. A synthetic-electronic noise pinged.

“Major Wen Nuo, A-level Combat Staff, identified.”

Wu Xingyun, still digesting everything from the day, wasn’t responding. Wen Nuo grabbed his hand, holding it aloft.

Ping. “Special Division, Ghost Infantry, Second class Sergeant Wu Xingyun, identified.”

“Where is my ship parked?” Wen Nuo inquired.

A passageway lit up with flashing lights, and not waiting for the hologram to say anything further, Wen Nuo pulled Wu Xingyun that direction.

Through a short-ish passage, and a small spaceship appeared before them.

In a bit of a daze, Wu Xingyun eyeballed the ship. Wen Nuo patted him, saying: “Go on up.”

“Yes!”

The two men got aboard.

Although the ship was not large in size, the interior was spacious enough. The main cab was about twenty square meters, numerous operational buttons flashing incessantly. The dome was completely transparent, letting Wu Xingyun watch the rapidly moving ceiling. The spacecraft had an autopilot program, and could have accommodated up to fifty people. Yet Wu Xingyun and Wen Nuo were the only two passengers.

“Captain, where’s our destination?” Wu Xingyun asked.

Wen Nuo, seated in the main pilot’s chair, threw a map to Wu Xingyun. “Where the red dot is.”

Wu Xingyun read the map. “Isn’t this close to the front line? Far away from our current location. Why am I training there?”

Wen Nuo didn’t know quite how to word it. Wu Xingyun being closer to the frontline made it easier to hand him over for the marriage. Wen Nuo decided to say nothing.

Wu Xingyun, pondering a little, came to his own conclusion. “I know, in order for me to better complete this task!”

The ship broke away quickly from the Galactic Federation’s main star, heading out into the vast cosmos. Wu Xingyun stood by the observation window, taking in the magnificent starry firmaments.

As soon as he had the ship’s course fixed, Wen Nuo turned his head, seeing Wu Xingyun enjoying the scenery.

Still carrying his pack and automatic weapon, Wu Xingyun held his posture ramrod straight. Even when viewing the passing solar system, he maintained his proper military stance.

Wen Nuo called to Wu Xingyun. “Come and sit down, it’s going to be the transmission point soon.

Wu Xingyun promptly put his backpack in a storage box. Then he removed the energy clip from his automatic, putting the gun in with the pack.

He moved fast and smooth, showing off his rigorous training. Then he sat next to Wen Nuo, strapping on his seat belt.

Huge, spiraling nests of light appeared before the helm, a ring of more lights in the center. Directly into the foundationless entry the ship flew. Then disappeared, leaving behind clear space.

The tunnel of lights had been designed to reduce space-travel duration, allowing hundreds of light-years to be traveled in about a half hour. Each transmission point had been carefully selected, and each transmission required a huge amount of energy. Dotting the Galactic Federation territory were a total of two hundred and twenty-three such points.

The Galactic Federation would have like to install more transmission points, but dared not venture into the Night Shard’s region.

So after roughly thirty minutes, another transmission point materialized, and the spacecraft sailed through.
