DPM Chapter 3-Premarital Training (2) Part 2
Translated by Snowfall77

`

Bright light filled Wu Xingyun’s sight as he saw a enormous cluster of planets ahead, as well as bruising battleships and sleeker airships traveling here and there. On patrol were some battle-mecha, fresh out of research and development.

Wu Xingyun and Wen Nuo flew on for another three days before reaching their destination, the planet Deta-Nuo, at the Galactic Federation’s front line.

The planet Deta-Nuo had been developed to be suitable for human needs. Its original primitiveness stripped away, except for residential tree groves. It acted as a supply and training base.

The bulky battleships rested on the supply field, replenishing their energy stores, while some injuries were sent to be treated there.

At the center of the planet, a front-line staff was maintained.

The terraforming of Deta-Nuo had ensured that the four seasons, temperature, and humidity were optimum for human survival, unlike other planets Wu Xingyun had been to before.

Wen Nuo’s ship had landed directly at the military airport. The two men went through the formalities, then onto Wu Xingyun’s new residence, the Level A Combat Staff dormitory.

Along the way, Wu Xingyun met many other officers, all with higher ranks than his own. There seemed to be no common soldiers on-planet, except for him.

Since Wu Xingyun had to salute senior officers, he wondered sadly to himself if his arm would fall off.

The dormitory building appeared to average, but the surrounding environment was lovely, with multitudes of trees and flowers. The building had a total of five floors, each floor housing only two residents. On the war ready Deta-Nuo, where resources were relatively tight, the dormitory could be considered a luxurious lodging.

Wu Xingyun and Wen Nuo walked into the downstairs of the building just as a captain was exiting. Wu Xingyun immediately snapped his salute: “Sir.”

The captain was smoking, uniform jacket open and shirt unbuttoned partway, teasing bits of smooth skin.

The captain paced in front of Wu Xingyun, looking him up and down, and spewing a smoke ring in Wu Xingyun’s face. “Wen Nuo, is this your new recruit? Or is he your intimate friend? Let me remind you, you’re not allowed to bring people back to fuck.”

Wen Nuo’s face turned heavy, giving the captain an unpleasant look. But before Wen Nuo could speak, Wu Xingyun rattled off: “Report. Special Forces Department, Ghost infantry, Second-Class Sergeant Wu Xingyun. On orders from General Hong of the Ministry of Military Affairs, I have been brought to carry out a mission. Company Commander has not violated regulations.”

The captain regarded Wu Xingyun sardonically. “Ah, you’re the one who’s going to marry the night demon! And here I thought it’d be some beauty from the city. Instead it’s this big joker. Boy, don’t talk to me. I don’t care how awesome you think you are, relying on selling your ass…”

Before the captain could finish talking, Wen Nuo caught him by the collar. Wen Nuo’s face was livid, eyes shooting flames, and his fists squeezed tight. “Ouyang Liu, you go against me. I don’t care,” Wen Nuo’s voice was trembling with anger, “But this man is my soldier. If you disrespect him, I’ll make you pay.”

Ouyang Liu wasn’t intimidated. He smiled, saying: “Go ahead, hit me. What, you think I’ll piss my pants because of you? Get lost. Come on, do it.”

Wen Nuo’s face kept getting redder, so Wu Xingyun said worriedly: “Company Commander, mind the regulations. You’re not allowed to fight, or you’ll be disciplined.”

Ouyang Liu smirked at Wu Xingyun. “Boy, you sure learned your rules well!”

Wu Xingyun ignored him, continuing to persuade Wen Nuo. “Commander, this man is your subordinate, you can reprimand him. Just don’t hit him. Don’t do this…”

Wen Nuo loosed his hold on Ouyang Liu, snorting. Then inspired, Wen Nuo added: “Captain Ouyang Liu will be be penalized to run 20 meters cross-country, a thousand push-ups, a thousand pull-ups, and a thousand sit-ups! Then report in.”

Ouyang Liu, defiant: “I’ve done nothing wrong. Why should I get a penalty?”

Wen Nuo ground his teeth, glaring at Ouyang Liu. Ouyang Liu came from a high family background, leading to him acting unrestrained and without scruple. He was ordinarily aggravating, but his behavior was worsening. Wen Nuo, too enraged, figured beating Ouyang Liu to a pulp was worth a demotion. But he recognized that Wu Xingyun was talking reason.

So Wen Nuo didn’t strike Ouyang Liu. Wu Xingyun, tone serious and sincere, addressed Ouyang Liu next. “Sir, your discipline is lacking. It’s not good. In addition, smoking isn’t allowed on station. The punishment is solitary confinement…”

Wen Nuo pulled Wu Xingyun behind him. Looking at Ouyang Liu sternly, Wen Nuo continued where Wu Xingyun had left off. “Not only that, you’re not wearing your badge, your gun is improperly loaded, you’ve been rude to a superior officer, and bullied a new-comer. Insulting the President’s highest decision! No matter who you are, that enough to get you kicked out of this place.”

Ouyang Liu couldn’t help being surprised. The usually refined Wen Nuo got all riled up for the sake of some insignificant soldier.

Ouyang Liu stole a glance Wen Nuo, noting the ashen complexion and intolerant, severe expression.

“Captain, not going to follow orders?” Wen Nuo took out his communicator. “I’ll call the guard.”

Ouyang Liu glared at Wen Nuo hatefully, but stood upright and saluted Wen Nuo. “Yes, Sir! Captain Ouyang Liu will execute the order.”

Ouyang Liu returned to his room, setting aside his backpack and gun, and putting on his combat fatigues. Wen Nuo threw an electronic counter at him. “Wear it. We don’t want you to be lazy!”

Ouyang Liu gave a strangled: “Yes.” He began to run along the dormitory drill grounds.

Wen Nuo watched for a moment, then turned, patting Wu Xingyun on the head. His voice resuming its usual gentleness, he said: “Don’t care about it. Some people are stinky. If he bothers you again, you tell me.”

Wu Xingyun mused out loud. “I saw him for the first time today. Why does he hate me?”

Wen Nuo didn’t respond right away. And all he said, as he helped Wu Xingyun carry his stuff upstairs, was: “Because, when the Night Shard started the peace talks and proposed a marriage, the original candidate was him.”
