DPM Chapter 30-Missing Part 1
Translated by Snowfall77

Wu Xingyun’s return journey was exceptionally smooth. Taking with him two other Federal men, each one of them flying a frigate. Within a month, they reached the first transmission point.

The Federal base on Yuanxing had been building for nearly ten months, reaching the capability of producing a variety of small and medium-sized spacecraft. Using Yuanxing resources, the ships had plenty of power. Jumping several points in a row, Wu Xingyun finally reached the Alliance-Federation border.

The border was very different than from when Wu Xingyun had come through the first time.

Originally, when he’d been on his way to get married, the heavy atmosphere of war had permeated. Two fleets had sternly hovered opposite each other. Nearly a year later, various garbage floated aimlessly, while the Demon army guarding the transmission point boasted only a dozen mutants, relying more on their tens of thousands of ordinary soldiers.

The Federation only had troops guarding a few planet strongholds, their patrol ship staying well clear of the terrifying minefield.
Laser emitters were placed on nearby planets, forming a light blue wall. Merchant ships, after going through custom checks, would cross the wall to their respective trade areas.

Wu Xingyun easily passed the Alliance check point, and when one of the mutants spotted Wu Xingyun in his ship, the mutant exclaimed in surprise, “Hello, sister-in-law!” A second passed, the mutant thinking he might have addressed Wu Xingyun incorrectly. So the mutant added: “Brother Wu, are you here to visit your parental house?”

Over the radio, Wu Xingyun replied: “I have cleared it with Mozun. The Federation has a task for me. For my return, here’s my pass code.” Wu Xingyun sent over his three-dimensional code.

After verifying the code, the mutant pointed to the Federation side, asking: “Brother Wu, are those warships here for you?”

Wu Xingyun turned and looked out his porthole.

On the Federal side of the blue wall, a fleet of warships floated. The main ship was a standard combat carrier, along with hundreds of frigates, the configuration enough to wage a small-scale war.

A touch confused, Wu Xingyun didn’t know why the warships had come, but he soon received a message from the Federal side.

Wen Nuo’s familiar face appeared on the communication screen. “Wu Xingyun, it’s me. I’ve come to take you back.”

Wen Nuo’s tone was gentle, and it was that gentleness that finally gave Wu Xingyun the sense of returning home. Wu Xingyun responded with a loud: “Yes!”

Wu Xingyun then informed the mutant sentry: “Those ships have come to pick me up.”

“No wonder,” said the mutant, “They’ve been there more than half a month. Not attacking, not retreating. Still, we’ve been vigilant. And we’ll be here when you return. Take care. Don’t stay too long, come back early! Don’t forget our leader will be waiting for you!”

As the mutant said all that, he started the pass point.

In the center of the blue wall, a spiraling gap materialized, large enough for a ship to pass.

Wu Xingyun’s craft flew slowly through the gap, the gray metal illuminated by the glowing sapphire light, harmonizing with the ice-cold universe.

The other two frigates closely followed behind him, traversing the laser wall to arrive at their long-lost homeland.

In a dark, quiet cosmos, the three ships returning from the enemy lingered like lost children, halted with nowhere to settle.

A huge mothership lumbered towards them. Its bottom hatch opened, an azure beam instantly sketching a translucent track.

The three small ships rolled in the air, aligned themselves with the outlined path and slid into the mother ship.

The hatch closed behind them. As the ship turned to head home, a huge energy booster blazed out a blue flame.

It wasn’t Wu Xingyun’s first time on a mothership of this type. They were one of the Federation’s more effective weapons against Mozun and his Demon army, with enough interior space to hold a hundred thousand fighters, ten thousand small aircraft, and ten humanoid mecha.

Wu Xingyun followed the provided navigation instructions, parking his little ship stably in the well-organized lower hold.

Then he got up out of his seat, adjusted his military uniform, and walked to the hatch.

The hatch leisurely opened, the gangway extending to the outside platform.

The moment Wu Xingyun stepped off his ship, he saw Wen Nuo standing on the platform waiting for him. Wen Nuo was wearing the usual gray military uniform, a Federation logo on his military cap, giving Wu Xingyun a long-lost sense of familiarity.

Hatches on the other two frigates opened up too. Next three soldiers marched neatly to Wen Nuo and lined up.

Wen Nuo’s pale gray eyes were like peaceful water, as he tenderly regarded the soldiers in front of him. His gaze fell on Wu Xingyun last.

Wu Xingyun was thin, dark, and obviously horribly unhappy.

Wen Nuo had a lot to say, but he didn’t know where to start.

“Salute!” Wu Xingyun barked. The three soldiers saluted in unison.

“Report! Yuanxing Guard, reporting Sir!” Wu Xingyun’s voice sounded hoarse, almost choked up.

After studying the three people in front of him, Wen Nuo stood at attention himself, his expression solemnly respectful when he returned the three’s salute: “Welcome home!”

Simple words, no intimate greeting, however Wu Xingyun almost cried.

Yes, he was finally back. No one to maliciously bully him, no one to embarrass him, no more duplicity or hypocrisy. Mozun, that asshole, couldn’t make Wu Xingyun uncomfortable, because Wu Xingyun was home……

Wu Xingyun drew in a breath from his nose, the Federation’s unique scent wafting up his nostrils, mixed with steel and food.

It’s good to be back, Wu Xingyun thought to himself, a smile spreading over his face. The next second he was wrapped in a pair of affectionate arms.

Slightly looking up, Wu Xingyun took in Wen Nuo’s face close at hand. Wen Nuo’s chest was very warm, just like it had been when Wu Xingyun had enlisted and received the hugging of the new recruits.

Wu Xingyun forcibly inhaled a couple of times, the faint whiff of cigarette smoke from Wen Nuo’s body tickling his nostrils.

Inexplicably, in a moment where he should be happy, Wu Xingyun thought of another person, an ice-cold person, sometimes coarse and wild, who rarely gave warmhearted embraces.

Soon enough Wen Nuo dropped his arms, hugging the other two soldiers in turn. The other two were more excited than Wu Xingyun, giving Wen Nuo great bear-hugs, one even taking the opportunity to kiss Wen Nuo’s cheek.

“General Wen, it’s great to see you again!” Solider A said, “I hope for a banquet, I practically starved on Yuanxing!”

“General Wen, congratulations on your promotion! The last time I saw you, you were a Colonel, now you’re a Major General! Let me treat you to a meal!” Solider B chimed in.

Only when listening to his comrades, did Wu Xingyun notice that Wen Nuo’s shoulder badge had risen a level. Wu Xingyun really couldn’t call Wen Nuo ‘Company Commander’ now, but would have to use ‘General.’

That it wasn’t currently a time of war made Wu Xingyun marvel all the more at Wen Nuo’s speedy promotions.

Wen Nuo cheerfully agreed to the other two soldiers’ requests, before turning back to Wu Xingyun: “What are you doing? Are you in a daze? They’ve both made demands, what do you want?”

Snapping out of his reverie, Wu Xingyun replied: “Oh, I have nothing to ask for……No requirements.”

Wen Nuo kept his merry expression, patting Wu Xingyun on the shoulder, then the four men walked together towards the ship’s reception room.

After the three returned from Yuanxing satisfied their hearty appetites, the other two soldiers went to rest. But Wen Nuo took Wu Xingyun to a meeting room.

The purpose of Wu Xingyun returning was to be Marshal Shi Fei’s witness.

Wu Xingyun needed to know as soon as possible what had happened to Shi Fei, and how Wu Xingyun was to help the Marshal.
