DPM Chapter 31-Trial Part 4
Translated by Snowfall77

“When someone who genuinely dedicates themselves is vilified and thrown into prison, who else will be willing to defend and sacrifice their life in service to the Federation? When traitors become revered heroes, who will want to serve the Federation? Yes, since ancient times humanity has not lacked base, contemptible people. They undermine faith, fairness, and justice for their own selfish, destructive purposes. But we will not allow these people to exist. Because allowing them to hurt our true heroes will only end up destroying the Federation!”

“The reason I came to testify wasn’t to bring someone down, not to embarrass anyone, I simply came to because I don’t want to see that day come. I don’t want our enemies to unexpectedly be laughing in the shadows. While our friends cry bitterly in the light.”

“Jury, grand justice, I believe you sincerely love the Federation. I believe that some of the these crafty plots and machinations are nothing more than tricks of a joker. In the face of facts, under the light, everyone will has their own inner conscience. Even if not, history will correctly judge today.”

“We’ve been deceived once by the Night Shard, missing the perfect chance to defeat him. We can’t be fooled a second time.”

“The Federation will win!”

“At the end of the day, I love the Federation, I believe everyone else loves her as much as I do, and no one can bear to betray her. Those who do betray her will inevitably be tried, whether by court or by history!”

“I’ve said what I had to say.” Wu Xingyun bowed to the crowd as he finished his speech.

He’d rehearsed the dialogue a hundred times over under the guidance of Wen Nuo, making the whole act incomparably smooth. Wu Xingyun’s expressions, gestures, demeanor, all had been honed countless times in the mirror. Therefore, when he said his last words in the courtroom, warm applause from the throng immediately broke out, the jury members exchanging dismayed glances. Finally, the grand justice had to bang his gavel three times before everyone quieted down.

The grand justice then announced: “Court is now temporarily adjourned, the verdict will follow……”

Before the grand justice could finish, a man at the hearing table stood up. He made his way to the front of the courtroom, speaking especially righteously. “I was wrong! I wish to apologize to all the people of the Federation! Ouyang Liu, by betraying the Federation, has brought shame to all! Blame me for not properly educating him as a child. When he became an adult, I, being too busy at work, was negligent towards him. It is I who am unworthy, I apologize to everyone……”

With that, Ouyang Feng gave a deep bow to the general courtroom.

""

“I ask the grand justice to re-sentence Ouyang Liu. Don’t be merciful on my behalf. A shameless man like Ouyang Liu should forever be known as a disgrace. On behalf of the Ouyang family, I declare that that person will be expelled from the family. He did not deserve the name Ouyang! Also, on behalf of the Ouyang family, I apologize to all those who were hurt by Ouyang Liu. I am sorry. Because of my work, I neglected to properly teach my child. I accept the condemnation of the Federation people. I can only express the greatest sorrow.”

Saying that, Ouyang Feng bowed to Wu Xingyun: “Sergeant for the trouble Ouyang Liu caused you, I apologize.”

Next up was Shi Fei. Ouyang Feng faced the Marshal and continued: “I did not understand Ouyang Liu before. If I had known, I would never have let anyone with an ulterior motive falsely accuse the Marshal. I solemnly apologize to you for this unpleasant episode. I hope this will to affect our future cooperation.”

Shi Fei glared fiercely at Ouyang Feng. Wu Xingyun, on the other hand, being a bit simple, felt that Ouyang Feng had sincerely apologized and confessed his mistakes, thinking maybe the Vice President wasn’t as bad as his reputation led one to believe.

While Wen Nuo slightly narrowed his eyes.

Ouyang Feng had been manipulating behind the scenes, although never sticking his own neck out. He’d made sure to safeguard his own stature, always keeping himself in a position to defend himself. At present, he’d realized the unfavorable situation couldn’t be reversed. Therefore, Ouyang Feng had drawn a sharp dividing line between his dead son and himself, in order to win back the public’s favor……Indeed, what a truly……Qualified politician.

Though, no matter how well-qualified, Ouyang Feng would still be hit hard by this matter.

In a split-second, Wen Nuo started plotting a series of follow-up strategies for dealing with Ouyang Feng. The first strategy, of course, was to use the events of Wu Xingyun’s wedding night to attack Ouyang Feng’s appeasement policies, along with having Wu Xingyun stay in the Federation, never to return to the Night Shard’s territory.

The judges deliberated, returning with the verdict that Marshal Shi Fei had been falsely accused, and was to be immediately released and restored to his original position.

Ouyang Liu’s guilt was confirmed. He was sentenced to one thousand years for treason, his corpse to be thrown into prison for safekeeping……

The official who’d formally made the allegations against Shi Fei was convicted of false accusations, sentenced to one year in prison, along with a hefty fine.

As for Ouyang Feng, the hidden mastermind, there was no evidence to prove he’d done anything illegal. Therefore, the judges couldn’t make a ruling against him, but the President quickly sent a message stating that Ouyang Feng was temporarily suspended from his duties for the over-indulgence and poor discipline of his children, causing great jeopardy to the reputation of the Federation. The Federation Council would need to be convened to vote on whether or not Ouyang Feng would remain in office.

The trial was over, the grand justice had read the verdicts, and announced the dissolvement of the proceedings. Wen Nuo was the first to run over to Wu Xingyun, smiling and patting Wu Xingyun on the shoulder: “Good job!”

Then Shi Fei was at Wu Xingyun’s side, pounding him on the back in high spirits: “Boy, you surprised me. Ordinarily you’re stupid and foolish, and have a hard time talking. But today, your mouth was like a torrent!”

Scratching his head, Wu Xingyun told Shi Fei: “Everything was written by General Wen. I followed his lead……Even after practicing many times, I was afraid of making a fool of myself.”

Shi Fei laughed out loud, hugging Wu Xingyun: “You’re good! I’ll give you a ‘meritorious deed’ commendation when you get back!”
Wen Nuo, still smiling, said: “Marshal, you’d better control your temper after this, this business was a lesson! Additionally, this wasn’t a military merit for Wu Xingyun, I’m afraid you can’t just award that as you please.”

Somewhat unhappy at that, Shi Fei gave Wen Nuo a punch on the arm: “You are truly a boring, no-fun man! Wu Xingyun, I’ll give you merit in my heart, and keep good things for you in the future!”

Not saying much else, Wen Nuo just kept smiling and watching Wu Xingyun.

Since the beginning of being in court, Wu Xingyun had been staring straight ahead. Now, he rotated around to look behind him for the first time.

All through the trial, he’d felt a gaze fixed on him. However, when he’d given his speech, it’d been like having thousands of eyes locked onto him, and he’d stopped paying attention.

Yet, as he stood talking with Shi Fei and Wen Nuo, Wu Xingyun felt that look again.

Wu Xingyun turned his head and finally saw the front of that man, the one with the back identical to Mozun’s.

The man wearing a gray suit, a white shirt with loose buttons, tie a little messy, and wearing sunglasses that covered most of his face.

Not only that, the man was also wearing a hat.

When Wu Xingyun’s eyes fell on that man’s face, the face was almost entirely hidden in shadow. Only a pair of lips and one chin.

It was Mozun.

Wu Xingyun’s heart was apprehensive and his brow furrowed. What was Mozun doing there? He’d sneaked into a Federal courtroom. For what purpose? Maybe Wu Xingyun had the wrong guy? Plenty of people might resemble Mozun, and it was impossible that Mozun would have come.

In a perturbed state of mind, Wu Xingyun was about to confirm it further, when he saw the man smiling at him.

The smile couldn’t be any more familiar, immediately affirming Mozun’s identity to Wu Xingyun.

Without thinking, Wu Xingyun blurted: “Mozun!”

Wen Nuo and Shi Fei, happily chatting together, suddenly heard Wu Xingyun and hurriedly asked: “What? Mozun?”

“I saw the Night Shard just now……” Wu Xingyun’s voice trailed off.

Shi Fei and Wen Nuo looked over to where Wu Xingyun was pointing. There wasn’t a soul in sight, only dust dancing in the light beams.

Shi Fei asked: “Boy, you’re blind, aren’t you?”

Wen Nuo silently observed the soldier in front of him. It seemed some things couldn’t wait any longer, Wen Nuo would have to act at once.

Rubbing his eyes, Wu Xingyun was at a loss. Was his eyesight bad? For what reason would he hallucinate that person’s return?
