DPM Chapter 32- Coming A Long Distance To Chase A Wife Part 1
Translated by Snowfall77

The trio of Federation men left the courtroom together, Shi Fei expressing his great surprise about how the tides had turned in his favor during the trial. After learning that Wen Nuo had arranged everything, Shi Fei praised Wen Nuo’s ability at flipping situations around. Next, Shi Fei told Wu Xingyun: “Now that you’re back, don’t go. Is this your first time on Liu-Mang-Xing? Let Wen Nuo show you around!” Spending a minute to mentally shift through all the spots he knew, Shi Fei landed on a good place: “An asteroid not far from Liu-Mang-Xing is the Federal Military Museum, that’s a worthy place to visit.”

Wen Nuo smiled, not answering, just inwardly amused and thinking that Marshal Shi Fei truly was a soldier through and through. Forget window-shopping, Shi Fei’s idea of a good time consisted of visiting a military museum……

Shi Fei said a few more words to Wen Nuo and Wu Xingyun and left. He still had many affairs to handle, he couldn’t afford to linger too long.

Wu Xingyun and Wen Nuo, on the other hand, no longer had any current pressing concerns. Wen Nuo put his hands in his pockets, strolling down the long corridor with Wu Xingyun.

By now, the trial had been over for a long time, and there was no one else in the passageway. Wen Nuo walked behind Wu Xingyun, whose back was enveloped in light. Like a pure angel with opened wings, the whole body shone upon by sacred rays.

Wen Nuo felt safe and sound in his heart. He didn’t want to destroy the atmosphere at all, so he continued quietly following Wu Xingyun. It was Wu Xingyun who turned around, asking: “General, what is at the military museum?”

“Mainly antiques, nothing unusual,” Wen Nuo replied casually.

“Is there……Organic mecha?” Wu Xingyun was curious about the museum. When he’d been in school, he’d learned that more than a thousand years ago, the Federation’s most prevalent weapon had been organic mecha, but later their use had been discontinued.

Wen Nuo knit his brows. He really didn’t want to talk to Wu Xingyun about this specific topic.

Because this topic would unavoidably lead to mentioning the Night Shard, and Wen Nuo didn’t want to speak about Mozun in front of Wu Xingyun.

The operating system of the mecha from a thousand years ago was very complex. Humans had been physically incapable of manually piloting the mecha. Instead, the human pilot had had to connect to the mecha operation system neurally, using their brain to operate the armor. Therefore, to use such a mecha, pilots needed to have very high mental and spiritual strength. Ordinary people didn’t have a prayer, while even highly trained Federation military elites could only make basic boxing moves, unable to achieve the higher difficulty fighting skills.

At the time, military strategists and scientists had believed the organic mecha was the best weapon against the Night Shard. They’d spent a great deal of resources and energy making the mecha and training pilots.

Finally, a scientist had suggested that since a single person might not be capable of piloting the entirety of the mecha, how about two pilots instead of one?

Most endorsed the proposal. Scientists and biologists busied themselves with further study, finding a way to get two people’s brains connected to mecha simultaneously.

As the fighting skills grew more and more complex, the mental control proficiency of the pilots grew higher and higher.

Eventually, at the height of their development, the most advanced organic mecha successfully neurally linked to five pilots, a golden mecha dubbed the ‘Sun God.’

Military strategists believed that this kind of armor would certainly defeat the mutants. And, in fact, at first the mecha did prevail in battle, until—Mozun successfully seized one.

It was an indisputable fact that the Night Shard’s mental prowess was stronger than that of Federation people. And when Mozun captured the ‘Sun God,’ he proved the point to the extreme.

Able to completely control the armor on his own, his strength and the mecha’ fighting and combat capabilities combined made the mecha twice as powerful as it’d been in the hands of the Federation.

Once the ‘Sun God’ became the Devil’s weapon, an untold number of Federation soldiers died at his hands. The Night Shard had become invincible. The scientists and military strategists finally realized they’d made a huge mistake. A large number of mecha were melted down, while the tactics of the Federation changed. Instead of the construction of expensive armor, along with extensive training of individuals, the new guiding ideology became producing large numbers of cheap soldiers, accompanied by large numbers of warships designed to be worthless if commandeered by the Demon Army. The Federation would use quantity to their advantage, instituting human wave attacks to counter and withstand the Night Shard’s personal heroics.

This strategic approach had brought the disadvantaged Federal army back to life. After all, the strengths of the Federation was that they had more people and advanced technology. Rather than relying on individual strength, the new tactics developed their assets whilst making up for their deficits.

At last, the ‘Sun God,’ after long years of usage, became damaged, and the Night Shard wasn’t able to properly repair it.

The military museum mentioned by Shi Fei was where decommissioned mecha had been stored. Mechanics and programmers, sad to see the era of mecha pass, had done simulations for visitors, including a working replica of the ‘Sun God.’

Wen Nuo knew clearly, that if he took Wu Xingyun to the museum, they’d inevitably see the weapons of various periods. And if Wen Nuo had to explain stuff to Wu Xingyun, the visit would devolve into ‘taking my sweetheart to see the Night Shard.’

Therefore, Wen Nuo disingenuously changed the topic of conversation. “Wu Xingyun, don’t worry about that now. Your parents moved here to Liu-Mang-Xing, did you know?”

All thoughts about the museum abandoned, Wu Xingyun grinned in surprise: “Really, how did they get here? Did you bring them?”

Wen Nuo stopped walking. Standing still in the deserted corridor, he looked down on the small soldier with shining eyes and irrepressible smile standing before him. Wen Nuo inwardly trembled, as if something inside him was slowly blooming.

“Well, I head you were coming back,” said Wen Nuo. “Just a month ago a group of miners was transferred and your father was among them. Here is very close to Deta-Nuo, you can always come home to visit your family.”

Happily smiling, Wu Xingyun said sincerely: “Thank you!”

Wen Nuo’s heart melted at the sight of Wu Xingyun’s delight. Gazing tenderly at the person in front of him, Wen Nuo’s voice was soft: “Promise me, stay, forget people who shouldn’t be remembered. Forget everything unpleasant. Don’t return to the Demon Army, alright?”

Shaken by Wen Nuo’s words, Wu Xingyun felt an unknown sensation bubbling up inside. His originally joyful face gradually looked down, and it took him a while to say: “In fact…… I…… Nothing, I think if I don’t go back, Mozun will be happy. It’s good that I don’t have to go and be married……I’m glad I don’t have to go back and be that man’s wife.”

Although Wu Xingyun’s mouth said staying it was a good thing, his tone was unusually dejected. Wen Nuo reached out and rubbed Wu Xingyun’s head, hesitated a moment, then also put his arm around Wu Xingyun’s shoulder. Federation uniforms were comfortable to the touch, especially the gray one on Wu Xingyun’s ramrod straight body.

They resumed walking, Wen Nuo’s arm still around Wu Xingyun’s shoulder, his words brisk: “I’ll accompany you to see your parents. When they find out you’re back, they’ll be elated!” Wen Nuo couldn’t help feeling a bit excited, his hands a little forceful, he even wanted to kiss Wu Xingyun’s lips right now.

Yet Wu Xingyun twisted his shoulder away. “You needn’t go through the trouble. I’ll go alone.”

Keenly aware of Wu Xingyun’s resistance, Wen Nuo loosened his grip slightly, though still unwilling to remove his hand, as he tried to convince Wu Xingyun: “It’s no trouble, when you were recruited, I went to your home to visit, we already all know each other……”

While Wen Nuo was speaking, Wu Xingyun’s footsteps stopped.

Wen Nuo glanced at Wu Xingyun, finding that Wu Xingyun was staring fixedly at the end of the corridor.

When Wen Nuo followed Wu Xingyun’s gaze, Wen Nuo saw a man in a gray suit with a slender figure, sunglasses over his eyes, choppy black hair, arms folded, and body casually leaned against the wall.

The man’s clothes were ordinary attire in the Federation, on the street you’d meet any number of people dressed the same. Wen Nuo saw nothing to care about, instead focusing on Wu Xingyun: “Don’t be in a daze, let’s go see your parents together. I just booked tickets for a show tonight, let’s take your whole family to watch the interstellar performance.”

Wu Xingyun was flustered, however. The man at the end of the passageway had started coming their way.
