Wu Xingyun stared at his mother speechlessly, before leaving the room with a dark face. When he came into the living room, he immediately spotted the smile on Mozun’s face. Thanks to Mozun’s keen senses, he’d clearly overheard the whole conversation between Mother Wu and Wu Xingyun just now.
Unfortunately, the addition of Wu Xingyun didn’t change the silent atmosphere pervading the living room. All the Wu family members sat on one side of the room, while Mozun sat opposite them, like two sides of a stand-off.
Wu Xingyun felt this wasn’t very good, but he didn’t dare go sit with Mozun in front of Father Wu. So Wu Xingyun joined the row of his elder brothers, sitting at the end.
The awkwardness remained unbroken until Mother Wu appeared.
The woman who’d previously been panic-stricken, desperately trying to call the police and Wen Nuo, was now completely calm, ready to demonstrate the mastery of a matriarch.

As everyone about split their sides from laughing, Mozun hurriedly stood up and told Mother Wu: “Thank you, mother……”
Before Mozun could finish his words, Father Wu pulled Mother Wu aside into the kitchen. There, Father Wu grumbled to his wife: “Son of a bitch, are you kidding me? You’ve invited the Night Demon for dinner?! Who’s going to eat with him?”
Well aware of the stakes, Mother Wu retorted: “Husband, you just saw it, that man can twist a steel pipe into a ball with one hand! I heard he’s temperamental and moody, murdering is like playtime to him! If we don’t invite him to dinner, he might do something atrocious……Our whole family might be exterminated!”
This assessment of the situation was rapidly passed on to Wu Xingyun’s three brothers and sisters-in-laws, and after several had weighed in, Mozun was presented with rigid smiley faces and stammered speech: “Well……Night……Young man, you see, it’s your first visit, have a meal before you go……”
Followed by everyone quickly projecting a joyous and harmonious front.
Mozun graciously helped clean the animal he’d brought. He’d tried to help with setting the dishes, however that had resulted in a terrified third brother and smashed bowls.
For dinner, Wu Xingyun’s two eldest brothers and sisters-in-laws sat together. Wu Xingyun and Mozun sat together. And Father Wu and Mother Wu sat together. Third brother, left alone in his celibacy, had to make do for himself.
After everyone finished eating, the mood wasn’t too bad. Mozun had unexpectedly been able to discuss mundane family life a bit, even talking about a widely-circulated asinine drama with the popularized, devastatingly witty line: “It’s cold, cook the chef!”
Then, for the grand conclusion of the meal, Mozun offered to help with the washing up.
Regrettably, the flock was still terrified of the wolf, with only Mother Wu feeling pleased. She stood in the kitchen, unperturbedly passing judgement: “Young man, you’re very diligent. What a good child.”
Unable to carry on, first brother manufactured an excuse to leave with his wife, claiming he couldn’t attend tonight’s performance either, the shock was just too much.
Meanwhile, Mozun made sure the floor was clean, polished the glass, wiped down the furniture, and sliced up a lot of apples.
Mother Wu beamed on benevolently, while the everyone else kept their ridiculously fake smiles slapped on.
“Young man, you’re very good at housework, aren’t you?” Mother Wu commented.
Mozun’s mouth curled up a little as he respectfully replied: “Well, I didn’t do anything when my mother was alive. But then the Great Nirvana came and I had to do everything myself.”
Mother Wu continued: “Have you had a tiring day? Truly, I’m sorry for the inconvenience. Your first visit, and being ordered to do this and that……Have an apple, you cut them so nicely!”
Still smiling, Mozun said: “It’s nothing. When I lived at home, my mother often tried to train me, it’s just I was young and ignorant. I didn’t know how to assist her. Later……When I wished I could help, the chance was gone. It’s my shame, thinking about it now.”
Her face blossoming like a flower, Mother Wu chuckled. “This young man is oddly pitiful. From now on, this is your home too……”
Suddenly, she caught sight of Father Wu’s black face, and said no more.
Second brother answered his phone at that point, and got invited out by his buddies for a late night snack. He told Wu Xingyun that he wouldn’t be able to make the interstellar show, for there was a Night Demon in the house who could destroy the world and peel apples. Second brother hadn’t been psychologically prepared for such unbearable stimulus.
Next, third brother was sent out by Mother Wu to buy some Coke, because Mozun had said he missed the old ‘Coke-and-popcorn with a movie’ days.
Mother Wu strongly felt she should help her youngest son win his husband back. After all……Having once slept with the dreadful Night Shard, who would ever be brave enough to ask for Wu Xingyun’s hand in marriage in the future? Wu Xingyun would be condemned to die a bachelor. That wasn’t good for Wu Xingyun or the Night Demon. Besides, Mother Wu didn’t think her Wu Xingyun looked like a celibate at all.
Turning her face to Father Wu, Mother Wu asked: “Old man, why don’t you go out and see why your third son hasn’t come back?”

Moving her chair closer to Mozun, Mother Wu spoke earnestly: “Young man, you can see what our home situation is……”
