DPM Chapter 36-Hunting A Devil Part 2
Translated by Snowfall77

A solider escorted him through a passage, where they soon came to the underground control center of Liu-Mang-Xing. Shi Fei, Wen Nuo and other senior officials were already there.

While Shi Fei argued with someone on a screen, Wen Nuo turned around, saw Wu Xingyun coming, and walked to meet him.

An armed to the teeth soldier handed Wu Xingyun’s phone to Wen Nuo, then retreated.

Wu Xingyun couldn’t help himself, asking: “General, what’s going on? Can you tell me?”

Wen Nuo’s tone was very gentle: “It’s nothing. Right now your task to stay here, don’t worry about anything else.”

Unreconciled, Wu Xingyun continued: “Isn’t it……Getting ready……To ambush the Night Shard?”

Silent for a moment, eventually Wen Nuo nodded. He picked up a cup of coffee from the table and said: “Yes, you’ve guessed it.”

Wu Xingyun stared at Wen Nuo incredulously. Receiving his answer, his brain exploded with a bang, only to become a blank space. Not even knowing what he was saying, Wu Xingyun just relied on instinct: “He’s just visiting for a day, he’ll leave soon. He won’t cause any trouble. And he promised me we’d get a peaceful divorce. He just wanted to make a good memory before we broke up……He didn’t come with any malice……He said he wouldn’t fight the Federation, he’s sincere……”

“What a load of bullshit!” Shi Fei had finished his on-screen fracas in time to hear Wu Xingyun vouching for the Night Shard, promptly getting furious again.

Shi Fei strode over to Wen Nuo, peered at Wu Xingyun with a frown for a minute, then queried Wen Nuo: “Wen Nuo! What’s going on with this soldier? Didn’t you say he provided all the information? Why do I think it wasn’t like that at all? Is your intelligence source trustworthy? You can kill the Night Shard this time? I just got done promising the President that that was the case. What the hell is going on? Wu Xingyun knows nothing?”

Listening to Shi Fei’s bellowing, Wu Xingyun’s blank mind snapped back awake. Although, hearing Shi Fei’s questions, Wu Xingyun’s bafflement only increased.

What sources of intelligence? Accurate information provided, what did that mean? And what was it that should Wu Xingyun know?

Wu Xingyun stared at Wen Nuo with doubtful eyes, filled with disquiet.

Ignoring Wu Xingyun, Wen Nuo explained to Shi Fei: “He really doesn’t know anything. I didn’t tell him. However, the intelligence is quite accurate. The data analysis, it won’t be wrong!”

Shi Fei went “hmmm,” and said nothing else.

But Wu Xingyun couldn’t let it rest. Even if there were some things he shouldn’t ask, he still needed to know. “General Wen, what does the Marshal mean? It involves me, I have a right to know.”

Wen Nuo’s expression became a bit awkward, while Shi Fei waved to the two of them. “Come here. I’ve believed and relied on your statements, Wen Nuo, and now I want to know what’s going on too.”

Wu Xingyun and Wen Nuo went into Shi Fei’s office together. As usual, Wen Nuo’s gray eyes were calm. He appeared cool-headed and extremely confident.

Wen Nuo saluted Shi Fei and began: “Report. The situation is like this……”

Listening to Wen Nuo’s report, Wu Xingyun couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Moreso, Wu Xingyun couldn’t comprehend it was coming from the person to whom Wu Xingyun had given his entire trust and loyalty to, even for a time an almost religious faith.

Wu Xingyun heard Wen Nuo’s words, feeling the uniformed general drifting further and further away from him.

His tone cool, Wen Nuo spoke: “The night Wu Xingyun returned, he was unable to sleep. He went to supplement the Federation’s information on the Night Shard, and I was behind him the entire time, seeing everything he wrote. I watched all of Wu Xingyun’s deletions and changes. I could see that Wu Xingyun’s mood was unstable, therefore I did a back-up, recording everything he did. Using Wu Xingyun’s first-hand information, and the customary state of the Night Shard, I performed data analysis. A startling conclusion emerged. The Night Shard claimed to be fully recovered, however his current abilities are not comparable to his peak condition. During a quarrel with Wu Xingyun, the Night Shard, in a state of extreme anger, caused a wooden building to collapse. That was very telling. According to my calculations, while the Night Shard’s day to day life is unhindered, his fighting strength is presently halved. It will take him a least a year to fully recover. At that time, I greatly regretted, if only we could have sent troops to fight him, in his condition there would have been no way for him to utilize his gamma-ray bursts. Victory would have been certain! Unfortunately, we did not take the opportunity, as the Night Shard is well aware. We gave him time to properly recuperate, while he took care not to take chances.”

Unable to help himself, a red-faced Wu Xingyun sputtered angrily at Wen Nuo: “How could you do this? I……You peeked at what I wrote!”

""

Wen Nuo looked Wu Xingyun in the eye, still tranquil: “I told you. I said I was behind you all night, but you didn’t realize it.”

Not knowing how to refute Wen Nuo, Wu Xingyun just said over and over: “How could you do that? How could you do this?”

Wen Nuo’s eyes stayed steady, his voice undisturbed. “Xingyun, we are soldiers of the Federation. We defend and uphold the Federation. We cannot shirk our duty of fighting the enemy. And our duty is to kill the Night Shard and eliminate the Demon Army. It’s every Federation soldier’s dream. You……Isn’t that right?”

Wu Xingyun’s lips trembled. He couldn’t say a word.

Yes. Killing the Night Demon was the dream and goal of every Federation soldier.

And to defeat the Demon Army, bringing a complete end to the war, was the objective of every Federation General.

It should still be the case for Wu Xingyun too. As a teenager, Wu Xingyun had fantasied of killing the Night Demon himself, and winning the highest Federation medal.

But why had he become like this now? Why?!

Wu Xingyun was speechless, while Wen Nuo turned back to Shi Fei to resume his report: “I didn’t expect that, in this situation, the Night Shard would dare to come so deep into Federation territory, that he would actually come to Liu-Mang-Xing! And……he was bold enough to appear in front of me, even staying here. Marshal, we’ve already evacuated all civilians off the planet, despite conflict with the Council. A compromised Night Shard in Federation territory will only come once. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, we can’t miss it!”

Shi Fei grunted, and Wen Nuo continued: “Also, all civilians from near-by planets should evacuated, just in case. We should quickly mobilize nearby troops, as well as gathering troops at the border. When we deliver the Night Shard’s corpse to the Alliance Army, we can thoroughly destabilize them, pursue a retreating enemy. In the Demon Army, except for the Night Shard, none of the mutants poses a major threat. The future battle might be bitterly fierce, but we’ll win all the same!”

Silent for a moment, Shi Fei thumped the table and stood up, determined. “That’s right! Soldiers, it’s time for the moment of truth on the battlefield! Peace in exchange for hostages doesn’t last. Only eliminating the enemy brings real peace!”

Having made up his mind, Shi Fei began issuing various orders.

Thus the battle started.

Data analysis is a process of inspecting, cleansing, transforming and modeling data with the goal of discovering useful information, informing conclusions and supporting decision-making. Data analysis has multiple facets and approaches, encompassing diverse techniques under a variety of names, and is used in different business, science, and social science domains. In today’s business world, data analysis plays a role in making decisions more scientific and helping businesses operate more effectively.[1]
Data mining is a particular data analysis technique that focuses on statistical modeling and knowledge discovery for predictive rather than purely descriptive purposes, while business intelligence covers data analysis that relies heavily on aggregation, focusing mainly on business information.[2] In statistical applications, data analysis can be divided into descriptive statistics, exploratory data analysis (EDA), and confirmatory data analysis (CDA). EDA focuses on discovering new features in the data while CDA focuses on confirming or falsifying existing hypotheses. Predictive analytics focuses on application of statistical models for predictive forecasting or classification, while text analytics applies statistical, linguistic, and structural techniques to extract and classify information from textual sources, a species of unstructured data. All of the above are varieties of data analysis.
Data integration is a precursor to data analysis,[according to whom?] and data analysis is closely linked[how?] to data visualization and data dissemination.
