DPM Chapter 39-Big Bang Part 1
Translated by Snowfall77

“Drop your weapons and I won’t kill you.”

A Federation light cannon shot out, aimed at the mecha filling the whole sky, the tallest moving thing on the asteroid. Stark like an imposing mountain, the Sun God powerfully intimidated every soldier. Each step it took shaking the ground.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Now myriads of light cannons emitted from the Federations soldiers, even though they’d been ordered to stop. However, the huge Sun God immediately became matchlessly flexible. Leaping in the air, changing its body as it pleased. What would have taken six ordinary people to adequately man, hit its operational pinnacle under the control of Mozun.

Having no intention of wasting too much time, Mozun hadn’t yet fired even half a shell.

He was intending to strike a fatal blow.

Soaring in mid-air, the Sun God was shrouded in a net of firepower. The aloft mecha spun slightly, suddenly pouncing, a hawk discovering its prey, breaking through the clouds, as its shadow enveloped the surface.

Ka-boom! A beam of red particles streamed from the golden mecha, hitting the temporary command post on the ground.

One hit, only one.

Wu Xingyun witnessed with his own eyes the moment the particle beam made contact.

The bunker-like command post exploded off the landscape as a whole, the red beam splitting the building open from the middle, rapidly forming a ball of light.

The sphere of light contracted inward, before, in a flash, expanding a hundredfold in bulk. The people who’d been in the building showed as black dots inside the blaze. Then quick as a blink of an eye, they were dust in the air.

Gray powder flooded the atmosphere, obscuring the sky. The Federation soldiers in headphones were assailed with an ear-piercing shrillness. Clapping their hands over their ears, in agonizing pain, they rolled around in dirt.

The last sight Wu Xingyun had of the asteroid was the blood gushing from the soldiers’ ears, and the rising powder hiding the heavens.

As soon as the Sun God broke through the asteroid’s atmosphere, it sped towards the position of the Demon Army.

Mozun gasped, reclining against the operating chair.

After all, the Sun God had been a replica in a museum, stored for people to gawk at. It wasn’t at full energy, while the ammunition reserves were limited.

And Mozun’s condition were exactly the same as Wen Nuo had assessed it to be. With severe mental and spiritual depletion, operating a mecha that had smoothly followed Mozun’s wishes years ago had now become somewhat strenuous.

Not only that, having lacked proper maintenance, the Sun God was suffering almost forty percent function failure.

Turning on autopilot mode, Mozun closed his eyes, needing a short rest.

He hoped to encounter no further enemies. He didn’t want to fight hand-to-hand anymore.

The Sun God landed at the nearest Federation military stronghold, easily capturing it. The mecha’s necessary energy got replenished, along with acquiring more artillery shells. However the parts damaged by poor maintenance were unrepairable, not that Mozun had the time to spare anyways.

After the refilling, Mozun set off again, forging ahead to his goal.

Wu Xingyun was still chained to one arm of the Sun God, enduring his first high-speed flight through the universe. At least his communication system still worked. In his headset he could even hear the sound of Mozun’s breathing inside the mecha.

Behind them was the following Federation fleet. At first, there hadn’t been many ships and Mozun had attempted to destroy them. But the battleships were sly as snakes, keeping their distance from the Sun God. The fleet stayed doggedly on Mozun’s tail, yet never launched attacks.

Over time, the number of warships increased, the accompanying weapons more and more sophisticated.

Everyone knew the Marshal of the Federation was gathering the forces, readying to lay siege at the opportune time.

Ten days later, after continuously jumping transmission points, the Sun God reached the borderline between the Federation and the Alliance. There, more Federation ships had already assembled.

The decisive battle would erupt at any moment.

Wu Xingyun raised his head, seeing the blockade line formed in front of Mozun. It was composed of battle-stars and warships, along with an already formed laser defense network, glinting like cobwebs in the darkness.

And to Mozun’s rear, multitudes of battleships lined up neatly.

Not far away, a small stellar system of three stars was revolving, making the region’s temperatures unusually high.

“Release the hostage! Surrender the Sun God and we will let you return to your territory.” All the communication equipment rang with Wen Nuo’s voice.

“Ha!” Mozun sneered. “You speak so much nonsense, to do what?! I put these things down, I’ll only be killed by you!”

Boom!

The battle had begun, the dark universe lit like day, like thousands of stars combusting at once. Illuminated by light, battle-stars and ships moved together in an onslaught, the Sun God simultaneously launching a counterattack.

Only able to move four arms, the Sun God blasted full shots from a particle gun mounted on one arm, smashing any ship that tried to approach, while another arm transformed into a huge alloy sword.

Countless wrecks spun and ricocheted at flying speeds, forming one orbit after another, corpses everywhere. Wu Xingyun was surrounded by frozen blood and dead soldiers.

He saw even his acquaintances, comrades-in-arms, and friends.

The chained soldier could do nothing. Could only be a bystander, his body moving with the flips of a golden arm, although just one metal tentacle held him now, the other four dancing like pythons, piercing warships, splitting battle-stars with concentrated firepower.

The battle lasted a full forty-eight hours. The Federation used a million warships, ten million soldiers, and innumerable artillery shells, but they could not capture the Night Shard.

Yet neither could Mozun keep fighting. The way back to the Alliance was impassable, his mental and spiritual power consumed by continuous combat. His collapse was imminent.

He fled with Wu Xingyun in another direction.

Using his survival ability honed by years of danger, Mozun’s intuition told him that the stellar system of three stars was his best escape option.

Moreover, he felt some unusual fluctuations there.
