DPM Chapter 40-Meeting Part 2
Translated by Snowfall77

All Wu Xingyun could be sure of was that, near the Earth’s coordinates, on a planet similar to Earth, in Mozun’s territory, there had been some kind of killing phenomenon.

The whole time Wu Xingyun had not seen one living human. In lieu of that, he discovered some books, all written in the Alliance language. The writing was very esoteric and jerky, and Wu Xingyun couldn’t make sense of it, or at least not enough to make any speculations.

His plan was to walk to a decent city. There he could find more information.

It was the fifteenth day of his arrival on this strange planet.

He’d determined one thing during those fifteen days. The sun above his head would randomly and inexplicably be obscured by something, casting the whole world into darkness. But then, after a while, the stars would reappear.

Because of this, Wu Xingyun surmised there was some sort of celestial object around the sun, which didn’t fit the description of Earth.

So it wasn’t the Earth, yet Wu Xingyun had never heard of such a place……And he couldn’t locate a single living person. His heart was full of unanswered questions.

It was night, and the road was high and winding through mountains. A blizzard struck, hiding the starry sky.

Wind blew the snow sideways. Wu Xingyun felt the frantic storm was trying to beat him to death.

All he could do was pull down his hat, scraping the snow off his face from time to time.

The curving road was very narrow, less than fifty meters wide, its surface pitted and uneven. On one side was a precipice, and on the other side an overhanging cliff. Wu Xingyun estimated the precipice was at least a hundred meters deep.

Occasionally lonely dead trees rotted on the side the road, their branches tangled together. Wu Xingyun thought they looked a little scary.

Ah! A gleam of light shone from the other side of the road. Figuring it was another fierce animal, Wu Xingyun thought to hurriedly evade. However when the light came near, he realized it was an old-fashioned car, of the style regularly seen in Mozun’s city.

Knowing someone had to be driving, Wu Xingyun stood on the side of the road, waving. Despite that, the car didn’t stop, racing through the snow.

Wu Xingyun wasn’t depressed, at least he’d seen the vehicle. It showed he was walking in the right direction.

Continuing his solitary march, the blizzard increased its violence, the wind making a whining sound as it rushed through. Snow covered Wu Xingyun and the ground in thick layers, reaching up Wu Xingyun’s ankles with every step. He decided to go just a little further before finding a place to rest, until the small sound of a voice reached his ears.

Like someone crying.

The sound blended into the violent wind and snow, Wu Xingyun couldn’t hear it unless he listened carefully.

Still, Wu Xingyun couldn’t help being excited. He’d finally meet someone living! He ran towards the cry, eventually finding a young man crouched on the ground, his hands wrapped around his shoulders, shaking.

He looked to be maybe seventeen or eighteen years old, wearing very little. His coat was worn out and torn, and he had only a shirt on underneath. Covered in snow, he was sobbing, obviously frightened and in straitened circumstances.

In such cold, with only those clothes on his back, he would likely freeze to death.

Not wanting to startle the young man, Wu Xingyun stopped at about five meters distance and shouted: “Hey there, hello! Can you hear me?”

The squatting young man turned his head. In the dimness, Wu Xingyun couldn’t clearly discern the young man’s face, just getting the impression of a big child.

The young man looked at Wu Xingyun in turn. Wu Xingyun touched his face, patting the snow off his body again. The young man suddenly stood up, rushing towards Wu Xingyun with open arms.

Surprised, Wu Xingyun dodged, and the young man fell to ground, only to immediately crawl over and firmly grasp Wu Xingyun’s pant leg. Crying and laughing, the young man exclaimed: “Senior, you’re with the xxxx army! I was waiting for you! Wuwu……I’m so scared……My parents were killed……I don’t want to die……”

Very emotional, the young man was trembling and coughing non-stop, tears freezing to his face even as he chortled.

Seeing that the young man was not malicious, Wu Xingyun crouched down. Promptly locking Wu Xingyun in a firm embrace with extremely strong arms, the young man was definitely in an excited state. Evidently, some catastrophe had happened on this planet. The young man’s parents had been killed, leaving behind a terrified, inexperienced teenager.

But—What was the xxxx army? Wu Xingyun was perturbed. Some army he’d never heard of? And being called ‘senior,’ when he was only twenty-three years old?! Wu Xingyun didn’t dare accept that honor.

Yet now didn’t seem the time to correct the boy’s words. The youngster’s shivering body was ice-cold. Wu Xingyun stretched out his hand, gently hugging the young man and patting his back pacifyingly. His voice soft, Wu Xingyun said: “It’s alright, don’t be afraid. What the hell is going on? Where is this?”

The young man shook his head blankly, tightly pulling at Wu Xingyun’s sleeve. After a few moments of comfort, the young man collected himself and let go of Wu Xingyun, rubbing the tears off his face with a wordless smile.

Wu Xingyun took the chance to get the fur out of his backpack, draping it over the young man’s shoulders, along with a piece of dried meat to chew on.

Squatting down on the side of the road, with his back to the cliffside, the young man’s teeth chattered against the hard meat as he wolfed it down.

Soon enough, the young man had finished eating. He licked his lips, and with his attitude calmer, he said: “Senior……Ah, no……Mister.” In the murky light, the young man couldn’t see Wu Xingyun clearly, however he could tell that Wu Xingyun was only a few years older than himself. And judging by the uniform, Wu Xingyun wasn’t high ranking in the army, but merely a soldier, who’d apparently been left behind.

“My name is Ye Fan, I just graduated from high school this year……I……Mister, don’t leave me behind, okay?” The young man’s tone was imploring. “I know how to do lots of things……I’m not going to drag you down……Please don’t leave me……”

Wu Xingyun didn’t speak. He had no idea what was going on here. He’d opened his mouth to ask the young man again, when another car suddenly drove by them.

With quick eyes and hands, Wu Xingyun pulled the young man behind him. By the light of the vehicle, Wu Xingyun glanced back at the young man’s face.

An unanticipated, very familiar face.

Mozun’s face.

Or, to be more accurate, the youthful face of Mozun seen once in a picture, though more frightened now. But no, Wu Xingyun wasn’t mistaken. It was Mozun.

A crazy notion swirled in Wu Xingyun’s brain. He didn’t snap out of his reverie until he heard the vehicle tires suddenly skidding off somewhere.

Staring at the juvenile version of Mozun standing in front of him, Wu Xingyun asked: “You just said your name was……?”

“Ye Fan.” The young man replied.

Wu Xingyun immediately recalled, in the passageway leading out of the courtroom on Liu-Mang-Xing, the lurking Mozun had bumped into Wen Nuo and himself. And Mozun had told Wen Nuo: “My name is Ye Fan.”

Was it coincidence? His innards churning in chaos, Wu Xingyun focused on his next questions: “What date is today? Where is this?”

Ye Fan cautiously and carefully eyed the soldier before him. Afraid of being abandoned, he surreptitiously clutched the corner of Wu Xingyun’s coat, saying: “It’s July 20th. Here……I don’t know where this is, probably the border between xxxx and xxxx. Mister, are you lost?”

Like his heart had been hit by a sledgehammer, Wu Xingyun was choked. Staring blankly at Ye Fan for a long time, Wu Xingyun slowly connected all the dots.

Stars exploding. Falling into a black hole. Traversing through a wormhole? Arriving at a strange environment.

Wu Xingyun had traveled from July 2015 of the Federation calendar to the Earth, some two thousand years in the past.

With an unhurried gaze, Wu Xingyun considered the Ye Fan standing in front of him, finally stopping on the hand clenching his coat.

Ye Fan’s hand, still uncontrollably shivering.

Ye Fan’s eyes followed Wu Xingyun’s. Embarrassed and a little reluctant, Ye Fan hastily let go of Wu Xingyun.

“Don’t……Don’t get me wrong……I was just……Haven’t adapted yet. I won’t do it again, I promise……I absolutely won’t create difficulties for you.” Ye Fan explained solemnly, even feigning a lighthearted smile at the end.

Wu Xingyun knew Ye Fan was afraid Wu Xingyun would leave him behind, that’s why Ye Fan had grabbed at Wu Xingyun’s coat. Yet Wu Xingyun also knew it a subconscious reaction from a frightened youngster. It wasn’t that Wu Xingyun blamed Ye Fan, he just felt utterly distracted.

For the whole thing was so ridiculous! Absurd, that the lost in some blizzard, squatting on the ground, helpless, begging not to be left behind, crying big boy Ye Fan was the one who would afflict the entire galaxy with terror by his very existence—The great and awful Night Demon!
