DPM Chapter 41-Spending The Night Together Part 1
Translated by Snowfall77

The wind blew more forcefully, snow rapidly descending flake by flake, obscuring their line of sight.

Wu Xingyun shook his head, trying to swing his shock away, the snow on his head flying off.

Trying to make it down the mountain alone wasn’t a good idea. Besides, Wu Xingyun had now gained one young, and apparently lacking self-preservation skills, Night Shard. There was no way to currently continue on.

They had to find shelter from the wind and snow, somewhere they could rest for the night. If Wu Xingyun waited until day, the temperature should be a little higher.

Looking around, Wu Xingyun was at a loss. Thanks to the blizzard, the visibility was very low, they were stuck on a winding road, and he wasn’t familiar with the vicinity. He had no idea where buildings might be.

He opened his mouth to ask Ye Fan, instead getting a mouthful of gusts and snowflakes. Now he couldn’t even talk?

Ye Fan noticed Wu Xingyun’s attempt. Pulling the fur up, Ye Fan held it over both of them, sheltering them from the elements. Under the hide, two heads came together, their breath warming each other’s cheeks.

“Mister Soldier, what did you want to say?” Ye Fan asked.

Ye Fan’s voice sounded hoarse and low, yet thankfully calmer and less helpless.

“Is there any place within a kilometer from this road where we could shelter?” Wu Xingyun continued. “This blizzard is too heavy. We have to find a place to rest. Once we do that, we can talk more.”

Shaking his head, Ye Fan said: “No……I’ve already been here a day, there’s nothing but a corpse.” The tip of Ye Fan’s nose inadvertently grazed Wu Xingyun’s cheek, tickling a little.

Wu Xingyun poked his head out from the fur. Resting on the road wasn’t an option, not with cars passing by. Then he thought of what had sounded like an overturned car earlier. That might work.

He ran to the other side of the road, Ye Fan trotting along after him. Standing on the edge of the precipice, Wu Xingyun spotted the car under the snow, a black lump on the slope under the cliff.

The precipice was at least a hundred meters high, and in the current weather conditions, it wasn’t the best idea to go down it. Still, there was nowhere else to go.

Digging through his backpack, Wu Xingyun grabbed some rope he’d found earlier and tied it around a tree at the cliffside. Ye Fan understood Wu Xingyun’s intent, however the blizzard continued to vigorously rage. Just walking was challenging enough. But Wu Xingyun wanted to climb down the cliff?

Ye Fan pulled at the rope, trying to stop Wu Xingyun, a gob full of snow made him unable to say anything.

After securing the rope, Wu Xingyun yanked on it, testing its strength. Very good.

He picked up his backpack, putting it on Ye Fan. Patting his own back, Wu Xingyun motioned to Ye Fan to hug him, so the two could descend together.

Ye Fan adamantly shook his head, though saying nothing. Wu Xingyun knew he couldn’t just drag the youngster with him. Frustrated, Wu Xingyun pulled the hide over their two head again, yelling: “It’s alright! Don’t be afraid, I’ll carry you down. You won’t fall and die.”

Still refusing, Ye Fan replied: “No, you seem to be……How can I let you carry me down? Doesn’t that just increase your burden? I have hands and feet, I can climb down.”

Wu Xingyun didn’t have the time or strength to argue with Ye Fan. He threw the fur at the young man. Giving Ye Fan an embittered glance, Wu Xingyun silently thought to himself: If you won’t let me carry you, you should slip on a rock and fall to your death! Spare me and the whole universe a whole lot of harm in the future!

Using the rope, Wu Xingyun quickly plummeted down, kicking his feet off the cliffside, his body light like a soaring bird. His movements were smoothly perfect, without hitches. For a Ghost soldier brutally trained to deal with the Night Shard, this harsh environment couldn’t compare.

Wu Xingyun landed down on the slope soon enough. Snowflakes still floated in the air, and the temperature was still freezing. At least the storm was less vicious.

""

He beckoned to Ye Fan, motioning him to follow Wu Xingyun’s path down.

Yet while this environment was nothing to Wu Xingyun, to Ye Fan it was simply terrible.

Ye Fan had grown up a good, studious child. At school he listened to his teacher’s words, at home he had listened to his parents. He never skipped class, never got in fights. He liked being a homebody, spending his vacations playing games and reading novels.

Occasionally, he’d done some rock climbing activities. But that had been on the artificial cliffs of the health club, while wearing belts and a helmet, a instructor right next to him.

Now, he was the top of a mountain, fierce wind making him unsteady, his hands about to fall off from the cold, bursts of snowfall threatening to bury him in an instant.

Standing on the edge, peering down, Ye Fan felt dizzy.

However, it had been absolutely unacceptable. Ye Fan had hands and feet. He couldn’t be carried down by a man almost the same age as himself.

Ye Fan took a deep breath, then slowly started sliding down, trying to copy Wu Xingyun’s actions.

Having just watched Wu Xingyun easily descend, Ye Fan soon found it more difficult than expected. Sliding too fast, the rope ripped up the skin of his palm. Trying to unsteadily get a foothold on the cliffside, he horribly banged a knee. And suffered fits of vertigo, while dangling in midair, with the awful feeling of being about to fall at any minute. Ye Fan almost broke down.

During the whole process, misstepping and swaying around, Ye Fan about fell several times.

Down below, Wu Xingyun watched the black-haired youth.

So, the cold, arrogant, tearing apart ships with his bare hands, dreadful Night Demon that made everyone tremble, used to be an ordinary teenager……

Moreover, was currently awkwardly flailing around on a rope. It was an appalling spectacle, too tragic to bear……

Figuring he was witnessing the dark, shameful history of the Night Shard, Wu Xingyun decided that if one day he met Mozun again, Wu Xingyun would use this to laugh at him.

Though when Wu Xingyun thought about it, heavy gloom weighed on him—how could he possibly make it back? Even the latest Federation technology hadn’t been able to time travel, let alone the technology of two thousand years in the past.

While Wu Xingyun was pondering, something fell at his feet. Ye Fan had lost grasp of the rope part of the way down.
