DPM Chapter 69 Part 1
Translated by Snowfall77

All of Xi’an city was sealed off. Excluding the mutants out hunting for food, every person in the city was assigned to a search team, their task being to locate Wu Xingyun.

The search was quite formidable, using a carpet pattern. Meaning, using the outermost circumference of the city as the first circle, the searchers made a series of narrowing circles. Anything that could be torn down was demolished, underground tiles flipped over, and underground tunnels completely blocked. Though eventually Wang Qiang found that too time-consuming, satisfying himself with closing off the major points with huge stones.

With this type of manhunt, even an ant wouldn’t make it out. Wu Xingyun certainly couldn’t.

When he first gone into the bathhouse, Wu Xingyun had simply wanted to break away from Wang Qiang’s line of sight, in order to make concealment easier.

Wang Qiang actually appointing two mutant guards and then leaving had been unexpected.

Next, since Wu Xingyun couldn’t very well leave the bathhouse, thanks to the two guards, Wu Xingyun had gone old-school. Lifting up a tile in the ceiling above the bath, Wu Xingyun hid himself in the narrow crawl space.

Never thinking that Wu Xingyun would still be lurking in the bath room, Wang Qiang had ordered the citywide search. Wang Qiang knew, no matter Wu Xingyun’s skill level, the ordinary man would be no match for the speed of a mutant. Wu Xingyun was certainly still somewhere in the city.

Wu Xingyun himself was clear on the fact that he wouldn’t be able to run out of the city. The best he could do was keep from being found as long as possible and also find a means of informing Ye Fan.

Ye Fan’s keen perceptions were a secret between the two of them. Even if Wu Xingyun couldn’t find a way to tell Ye Fan, there was the slight possibility Ye Fan would be to detect the shifting situation from outside the city.

After Wang Qiang removed the guards from the park, and started the search at the edge of the city, Wu Xingyun felt free enough to come down from the ceiling.

Well aware he’d be discovered sooner or later, there were things he needed to try, possibly allowing him to persevere even after being found.

Wu Xingyun’s first target was the city’s weapons storehouse.

There were a few guns there, but because the Wang brothers didn’t have an ordnance factory, there were no bullets.

Grenade launchers, hand grenades and other such stuff have been used up early on. Therefore, no one guarded the arsenal, considering it no better than scrap metal.

Wu Xingyun couldn’t conjure bullets up himself either. Going through the whole place, he uncovered nothing, just the useless guns.

Actually, these items weren’t completely without usefulness. Grabbing a lot of empty (ammunition) magazines, Wu Xingyun moved to the rudimentary city factory that Wang Qiang had established.

It was there that Wang Qiang had cached some sulfur, laser printer toners, and nitric acid, having some initial expectation of manufacturing gunpowder and weapons. Unfortunetly, lacking anyone with the needed scientific and technical know-how, and being in a new dark age, Wang Qiang couldn’t even use the online Baidu encyclopedia for support.

In the last days such computerized advantages were gone! Thus-having no idea how to make explosives or gunpowder, Wang Qiang’s hoarded materials went to waste.

Now, Wu Xingyun filled up on what he needed, then left the factory. Wang Qiang’s search of the city was already extensive.

Watching the searchers, Wu Xingyun vaguely understood the pattern they were using.

Therefore, Wu Xingyun choose the precise city center as his new hiding place. Warily avoiding anyone, Wu Xingyun began to dig.
Knowing that no matter how careful he was, he still wouldn’t be able to escape.

Even if the pace of Wang Qiang’s search was slow, in every area not so much as a housefly slipped by. Even the ground was dug into by three feet, holes made and buildings torn down without hesitation.

By the tenth day, Wu Xingyun could no longer find a suitable hiding spot. Burying simple landmines he’d made, Wu Xingyun placed them by pipes he felt could be broken. He planned to use the landmines to open up the blocked underground tunnels, and then escape that way.

Being able to find the underground tunnels and knowing where to dig was thanks to Wu Xingyun’s training as a soldier. Even while working, Wu Xingyun would subconsciously heed pipe locations, directions, and where optimum hiding spots were.

Now his instincts were coming in handy. Wu Xingyun remembered Ye Fan saying when he’d left, that the quickest he’d be able to come back would be fifteen days. Ye Fan had now been gone thirteen days, meaning even if Ye Fan moved at his fastest, there were still two more days before his return.

Wu Xingyun hoped not to be forced to the last resort. Killing himself.

Around midnight, Wu Xingyun was found, not unexpectedly. However, no one ventured too close and no one tried to carry him away.

Wang Ruoxu’s command had been to capture Wu Xingyun alive. That, along with the button-triggered bomb in Wu Xingyun’s hands, stopped anyone’s approach.

They didn’t want to die themselves, and could only go inform the Wang brothers.

Furthermore— everyone had more or less heard why Wu Xingyun was to be captured. Many of the mutants were friendly with Ye Fan, and almost all sympathized with Wu Xingyun fighting his bad luck. If not for being constrained by the Wang brothers’ power, there would have been no enmity for Wu Xingyun.

Upon hearing that Wu Xingyun had been discovered, Wang Ruoxu and Wang Qiang hurried out of their beds. Wang Ruoxu didn’t even bother to dress properly. Priest-style hairdo intact, he wore only a raggedy flowered t-shirt and flip-flops, looking all together incongruous.

After rushing to face Wu Xingyun, the two brothers found Wu Xingyun behind a bunker, holding an explosive device. Wang Qiang was fine, but Wang Ruoxu fell into a bit of a panic.
