DPM Chapter 7- Mozun Makes His Appearance Part 2
Translated by Snowfall77

The other soldiers on the field were stupified by Mozun. They still held their guns, but were drenched in a cold sweat, remaining deathly silent. The whole square was quiet, except for the painful moans of the soldiers suspended.

Still with that languid expression, Mozun said in a calm voice: “Is this the opening gift you bestow before our peace talks? If that’s the case, why talk? Let’s fight again!” As he spoke, his head slightly shifted, and the mid-air soldiers were thrown to the ground. Even though they had been wearing protective suits, horrible cracks sounded as their spines fractured.

Having finished speaking, Mozun strode towards the riddled podium.

Wu Xingyun, angered, shouted: “Stop!”

Simultaneously, Shi Fei, equally as enraged, bellowed the same thing.

Mozun did not turn around nor did he halt, instead he replied in an unperturbed voice: “I go where I please. Who will bar my way?”

The soldiers on field immediately dispersed to combat positions. They were prepared, on Shi Fei’s orders, and even if cost them their lives, to prevent Mozun from leaving the grounds.

Then one soldier came out.

Appearing pale and delicate, he pranced forward with a slight sway. Ouyang Liu.

When he came close to Mozun, Ouyang Liu dropped down to one knee, humbly saying: “Master Mozun, please stay. Those people were ignorant, and offended their betters. They deserved to die. Let me assure you, the Galactic Federation is sincere in our hopes for peace. So we ask that you don’t leave. If you’re unhappy with your proposed spouse, say the words, and it can be immediately changed.”

Shi Fei’s face, upon discovering that he had such a simpering scum in his troops, turned ashen. He couldn’t withhold his snort and whispered to Wu Xingyun: “What a degenerate! Willing to betray his Federation for personal gain!”

Wu Xingyun said nothing. He stood straight besides Shi Fei, the hand on his gun gripping tighter and tighter.

Mozun examined the man kneeling before him. The man had chosen his angle cleverly, revealing a slender neck and a longing, admiring face. Those moist eyes were quite flattering.

“Is that so?” Mozun inquired relaxedly. “I’m really not satisfied with all this. But, out of everyone here, you’re the most pleasing. I’ll accept your words and stay. What’s your name?”

Surprise flickered in Ouyang Liu’s eyes, then he bowed his head, exposing more of his beautiful neck. “My name is Ouyang Liu. Master Mozun, have you forgotten?” Ouyang Liu’s tone a mixture of thrilled and aggrieved. “We’ve spoken before, and you praised my accent as very proper.”

“Oh,” Mozun replied. “My memory must not be very clear.” Proceeding to the podium, Mozun found a corner chair, seated himself and ceased speaking.

Having witnessed the traitorous scene before him, Shi Fei was having a hard time swallowing. His chest kept wanting to explode. Mozun had humiliated him and his people. Then to top it off, one of Shi Fei’s own had heaped on even more shame. Throwing a mental apology to his ancestors, Shi Fei gestured at the more even-tempered Wen Nuo to play host for Mozun.

Wen Nuo took a deep look at Wu Xingyun, and then made his way to stand by Mozun. Wen Nuo, making no effort to entertain, instead said in a low, firm voice: “One day, the dishonor you gave the Federation, I’ll repay it! And what’s ours, I’ll get back!”

Mozun’s indifferent smile didn’t falter the slightest.

Meanwhile, Shi Fei spoke only to Wu Xingyun: “Don’t mind him. We’ll continue our business. You can start picking people!”

“Are you going to test their fighting ability?” Wu Xingyun asked.

Shi Fei shook his head. “Don’t expose our strength. Go with your gut and choose who stands out to you. That freak Ouyang Liu is an outlier! There won’t be second one like him in our army.”

Wu Xingyun stepped out in front of the thousands of men and shouted the order: “Attention!”

Although full of resentment towards Mozun, the soldiers promptly stood at attention.

“At ease!” Wu Xingyun’s initial nerves dissipated as he entered training mode.

He stepped off the podium and started selecting people based on the shooting he had observed when first entering the training field.

His first picks were two long-range shooters, then some close combat personnel. After questioning, he also selected two senior civilian officials, one specializing in biological research, the other in weapons research.

As Wu Xingyun walked, sometimes he leaned in to whisper a few words, and the soldiers he decided on would step out and salute Shi Fei.

When Wu Xingyun passed in front of Ouyang Liu, he completely ignored Ouyang Liu, directly moving onto the civilian official next in line. Wu Xingyun discovered the official’s mental strength assessment was A-level, so Wu Xingyun selected that official also.

Ouyang Liu had been wondering who the sergeant by the Marshal’s side was, and what criteria the sergeant was using to choose people.

It wasn’t until Wu Xingyun walked by Ouyang Liu, that Ouyang Liu could see into the tinted helmet to discern it was Wu Xingyun.

Ouyang Liu thought of his special performance that had received the affirmation of Mozun. Wu Xingyun, picking people, wouldn’t look at the one who’d not that long ago saved all their skins? If not for Ouyang Liu, the peace would have been over before it started. Clearly, Ouyang Liu was highly meritorious, and Wu Xingyun couldn’t summon up even a half-hearted question for him, and then skipped him?

Flushed with outrage, Ouyang Liu figured Wu Xingyun was acting out of personal spite. Watching Wu Xingyun move further and further away, without looking back, Ouyang Liu couldn’t hold it in. He stepped out of his place in the ranks, saying loudly: “Report!”

Shi Fei, detesting the sight of the soldier who’d kneeled to the enemy, frowned impatiently. “What are you yelling about?”

Ouyang Liu: “This selection is unfair. I ask for a fair selection!” After spouting this, Ouyang Liu noticed Mozun’s eyes on him again. Feeling even more emboldened, he added: “I think the Night Shard will agree with me, yes?”
