DPM Chapter 8-Eve of the Wedding Part 1
Translated by Snowfall77

Ouyang Liu said: “I think the Night Shard will agree with me, yes?”

Mozun showed his teeth. “Yes! I do agree.”

Shi Fei wanted to blast Ouyang Liu’s head off. He fumbled at his waist again, until he recalled he’d lent his gun to Wu Xingyun.

Wu Xingyun was looking to Shi Fei, waiting for Shi Fei to give an order.

But Shi Fei didn’t speak. Instead it was Wen Nuo who stepped forward and asked: “Wu Xingyun, why have you stopped?”

Wu Xingyun said: “Report. Captain Ouyang Liu has raised objections. Does he merit an explanation? Please instruct.”

“What do you think?” Wen Nuo responded.

Wu Xingyun actually had no real opinion on the matter. “I’ll comply with my leadership’s instructions.”

Shi Fei’s formerly red face eased back to a more natural color. Glaring fiercely at Ouyang Liu, Shi Fei stated: “This is an internal affair. The outsider Mozun is not qualified to intervene. Captain, you’d best reevaluate just who you serve.”

Ouyang Liu stole a peek at Mozun, and espied a smile still hung on the Night Shard’s mouth. “I do not accept this! I appeal! This man has a personal grudge against me, and you’re covering for him!”

Shi Fei’s blood pressure spiked back up. “Wu Xingyun!”

Wu Xingyun stood at attention: “Here!”

“Explain to this captain, make him clear on what kind of trash he is.”

Wu Xingyun saluted. “Yes.” With all propriety, Wu Xingyun turned to Ouyang Liu and said: “No…There is no grudge. The president told me I could choose whomever I like. I…I don’t like you.”

Ouyang Liu retorted: “Why? Why don’t you like me?”

Honest to a fault, Wu Xingyun replied: “Because…I don’t think your quality of character is sufficient for this mission.”

A burst of laughter came from the surrounding soldiers. Ouyang Liu hadn’t imagined that Wu Xingyun would completely blunt, offering ‘I don’t like you and you’re too low quality,’ as his reasoning without even trying to hide it.

Ouyang Liu stared viciously at Wu Xingyun, then a moment later directed a question at Shi Fei: “Marshal, this is purely his personal preference. Is that the standard of this screening? Does this not violate Federal law?”

Shi Fei, whose irritableness had been steadily increasing due to the peace talks, felt his temper rise off the charts.

And the end result was that he become icily calm.

Shi Fei scolded no one. He didn’t snatch Wen Nuo’s gun to blow anyone away. He calmly raised his arm and talked into his radio: “Guards, come here and escort Captain Ouyang Liu off the grounds. Transfer him to the military court, to held on trial for his performance today.”

Ouyang Lei heard Shi Fei’s words, deeply shocked. He was stunned that that uncouth old man would dare to treat him, Ouyang Lei, in such a way.

Ouyang Liu looked over to Mozun. The Night Shard retained his pleased expression and even nodded at Ouyang Liu.

Ouyang Liu did not hesitate. He threw his hat to the ground, snorting. Then lifting his head high, he said: “This unfair, biased screening, I withdraw!”

After his declaration, Ouyang Liu left the training ground, noting as he went through the gate that Mozun also got up and left.

While Wu Xingyun remained behind, still choosing his escort team.

Ouyang Liu was keenly aware, that from Mozun’s arrival to his departure, Mozun had pleasantly spoken to Ouyang Liu twice. As for Wu Xingyun, his bride-to-be, Mozun had paid him no attention from beginning to end.

So Ouyang Liu waited by the entrance of the training ground and as Mozun was coming out, Ouyang Liu immediately ran over. “Master Mozun…” Ouyang Liu called, plastering on an aggrieved expression.

Mozun frowned. “What are you doing here?”

“With such an officer and Marshal, it’s no surprise the Federation army collapses at the first blow. Making it a great honor to see my superior with my own eyes.”

Mozun’s eyes crinkled up, his attitude gentle. No hint of his legendary ruthless-reeking of blood.

Ouyang Liu pushed further. “In fact, since I was born, I’ve always admired the Night Shard. But I’m a son of the Ouyang family, otherwise I would definitely seek asylum with my betters.”

Mozun broke down and laughed out loud, tilting his head to look at Ouyang Liu. “Ouyang family? The same Ouyang family that was strong and kindhearted over two thousand years ago?”

“Master knew my ancestors?”

Mozun’s expression grew even careless, yet the depths of his eyes stayed dark and hidden. “They were good, honest, and upright people, your ancestors. Vice President Ouyang, he is your…”

Ouyang gave a slight bow. “He is my father.”

Showing a bit of interest, Mozun reached out a hand and hooked Ouyang Liu’s chin. Ouyang Liu straightaway fell into Mozun’s arms, his voice quivery. “From childhood, I’ve dreamt about you. Even now, I haven’t changed…” Ouyang Liu presented his lips, hoping for a kiss.

Mozun moved his head slightly away, while still appearing indulgent. “If that’s the case, I’ll tell the Federation to include you in the escort.” Then Mozun set Ouyang Liu upright and unceremoniously left.

Ouyang Liu was undoubtedly disappointed. He’d hoped the Night Shard would change his choice of bride and pick Ouyang Liu instead. It was unexpected that he’d forfeited his dignity and offended Shi Fei, only to receive a spot on the escort team.

Ouyang Liu considered Mozun’s back. The slender figure walking away in the fading light, pulling a long shadow, seemed lonely, somewhat quiet and desolate.

When Ouyang Liu saw that shadow, his desire deepened. The god-like figure, who’d been rooted in Ouyang Liu’s heart for a long time, had thoroughly aroused all of Ouyang Liu’s fantasies.

Even if it was just a place in the escort, Ouyang Liu was determined to vigilantly strive.

It was only obvious that the Night Shard had no regard for Wu Xingyun and had chosen the sergeant out of pure revenge. In contrast, to Ouyang Liu, Mozun had spoken to and smiled many times, acting neither brutal or bloodthirsty. Clearly, Ouyang Liu’s chances were good.

But then the guards came, to hustle Ouyang Liu away to the main Federation base. Would he be tried according to Shi Fei’s orders?

Meanwhile, Wu Xingyun had finished the selection, and started getting to know his teachers. They began with learning some of the etiquette and basic knowledge of his upcoming marriage.

A month later, Wu Xingyun was still bunking with Wen Nuo, whilst preparing for his nuptials.

In the mornings, Wen Nuo and a biologist went over fundamental knowledge about the Night Shard, along with general wedding matters.

At first, Wen Nuo had been up to the task, but as the content went deeper and deeper, he couldn’t stand it and requested to withdraw.

The lessons included language and lectures about physiological care.

Wu Xingyun’s original feelings about marrying a man had been that it was nothing much. However, as a female biologist, radiating delight, went into great detail about wedding night activities and the numerous positions they could be enjoyed in, Wu Xingyun’s dread burgeoned.

He was a brave soldier, however. He tried to overcome his fear, listened carefully, and if the teacher requested, took notes.

Every afternoon, Wu Xingyun took part in various training drills with his escort team. The base camp of the Demon army was about a thousand light-years away. Even if they used transmission points, it would take about a month to reach. The escort team was going to be responsible for protecting Wu Xingyun’s safety during that time, therefore mutual understanding and good communication was crucial.
