DPM Chapter 82-The Death of Dai Rong Part 2
Translated by Snowfall77

Ouyang Yi begrudgingly inquired: “You, how did you blast that warhead into space?”

With a small smile and laugh, Mozun answered: “I’ve no desire to give you an explanation. But I’ll tell you that you’d best return Qinglong as soon as possible. Otherwise the next warhead won’t be exploding in empty space. Naturally, you could immediately move yourselves, or……maybe make some last minute nuclear weapons of your own.”

The Federal people eyed each other helplessly, at a loss of what to do. Run around the next few days trying to make enough bombs to destroy the Earth? That was quite the joke! Everyone had a good idea of how many nuclear weapons had been left behind on Earth. And if they were all in the hands of the Night Shard……Mozun could do more than take out the Federation, he could completely pulverize the moon to nothingness eight time overs.

“I’ll give you three days to return Qinglong.” Mozun’s tone was detached. “My hope is that you’ll return him now. If a hair on his head is missing, I can’t tell you the consequences. You should know I’ve got a bad temper.”

Yet what the Federation had set in motion was now impossible to stop……Qinglong……

The Federation couldn’t give Qinglong back. They’d only just nabbed a mutant to conduct research on with great difficulty. How could they relinquish such an opportunity? If they did so, what were the chances they’d fall behind and be eliminated by the principle of natural selection?

Ouyang Yi looked to his left and to his right. His position at the table was the lowest. He would’ve never had the chance to join the delegation in the first place if he’d hadn’t claimed to be on friendly terms with the Night Shard.

Therefore, this was Ouyang Yi’s chance!

He opened his mouth, calling the Night Shard by an old name: “Ye Fan, please know……this is all truly some misunderstanding. I mean, here’s the thing, we absolutely didn’t take Qinglong. The Federation government wouldn’t give this directive. What are you imagining we’d do with Qinglong? Give us those three days, and we’ll help you find out where he is. How about it?”

“One day!” Mozun decided that was concession enough. He was anxious that if he pressed too hard it’d backfire, and if he gave the Federation too much time……well, an undue delay would only make more troubles.

“One day,” Mozun repeated. “I talk face-to-face conversation with Qinglong right here! After I see him, we can talk more. Also, you will stop interfering with local Earth communications in any way.”

" "

The Federation ended the call, trying to hide their relief that the negotiation was over. By the time Mozun went to test it, the Earth’s communication network had been restored.

Promptly sending Wu Xingyun a message, Mozun was warned by Peng Dawei: “Night Shard, the Federation is probably still listening in.”
Mozun gave a slight smile: “Never mind that, I want them to listen.”

Still in Xi’an, Wu Xingyun quickly responded to Mozun. Mozun played down the situation, speaking of what the Federation had done and his own use of a nuclear bomb casually.

Wu Xingyun couldn’t help being curious himself: “How did you get that nuclear warhead into space?”

“I’ve made progress in my practice (cultivation),” Mozun said idly, “Never mind getting it to space, I could get it to the moon if I wanted.”

“Really?!” Wu Xingyun was pleasantly surprised, not aware that Mozun was deliberately talking big for the Federation’s sake. In Wu Xingyun’s mind, Mozun sailed through the cosmos without impediment, needing no shield.

“Very good,” Wu Xingyun continued, “I was wondering the other day about when you’d break through the barrier of the atmosphere and travel the universe unrestricted.”

Mozun softly laughed. Just getting that warhead to explode had used up all his spiritual strength. There was no chance he’d be doing it again any time soon.

When he returned to Wu Xingyun and saw his face, then Mozun would tell the soldier the truth in detail.

But for now, Mozun just exhorted the person he cared for the most: “You have to protect yourself. Dai Rong was deceived and taken away. So no matter what, don’t go anywhere without the mutants I left to guard you. If the Federation doesn’t return Qinglong, I’ll send them all to hell……”

Meanwhile, in a conference hall on the moon, a group of Federal people were heaving sighs and feeling hard-pressed upon receiving the latest information.

Some advocated for returning Dai Rong. Then the Federation should accept their fate, go back down to Earth, surrender to the Night Shard, and wait for the chance to stage a comeback.

" "

Others were firmly opposed to this idea, believing instead that they should persist in their research on mutants. And that it was better to strike out on a boundless voyage, establishing new colonies along the way, than let the Night Shard have the upper hand.

While everyone was clamoring about what was to be done, Ouyang Yi scurried into the hall. He was more distraught than he’d been about his divorce years ago, for in trying to locate Qinglong for the sake of the negotiations, he’d just discovered that Qinglong was already dead.

Three days before, Dai Rong had been brought back to the moon and handed over to the military.

Aware of the past relationship between Dai Rong and Luo Ying, the military decided not to inform Luoshi Research of the identity of the captured mutant, afraid that Luo Ying would not cooperate.

Dai Rong’s old cronies were also not apprised.

In order to move Luo Ying’s research along, the military provided Luoshi Research some of Dai Rong’s cells. However, those cells did not give Luo Ying enough to work with. She was personally overseeing the research the military had tasked her with—the supposed issue of mutating extraterrestrial life. Therefore, for the best results, she needed the entire body.

After studying the cells the military had supplied, Luo Ying had found that the mutated alien life’s DNA structure was analogous to human DNA. The majority of the genes were identical, so Luo Ying confidently informed the military that if she could have the whole living body, there would be quick results.

Worried that Luo Ying would recognize Dai Rong, the military broke all of Dai Rong’s facial bones and destroyed his central nervous system. They delivered him to Luo Ying in that condition, claiming that he’d been in that state at the time of capture.

Brow knitting, Luo Ying scowled at what she saw. A man covered in tattoos, including one of an ancient dragon.

“This isn’t extraterrestrial life,” Luo Ying realized, “This is a mutant from Earth, isn’t it?”

The top officer nodded: “Since Professor Luo knows, we won’t try to conceal it. The last time we went to Earth, we happened to run across this mutant. Seeing as it was already dying, we brought it back. We hope you can study it and report.”

Luo Ying inspected the body, asking: “The central nervous system has been damaged? You didn’t do this, did you? It’ll make the research harder.”

“How is that possible?” The officer shook his head. “We want you to achieve quick results for the betterment of all humanity. Why would we deliberately destroy anything that could help you? It was probably the doing of other mutants. You know, we hear that they war amongst themselves a great deal. That mutant the Night Shard, they say his methods are quite savage. This one, when we happened upon it already like this, we thought to mercy-kill it, but then remembered your words at the last meeting. That’s why we brought it back to the moon.”

Luo Ying had heard all kinds of gossip about Ye Fan these days. Initially she’d argued with others over it, until realizing that doing so was pointless.

When she tried to speak up for Ye Fan, she only drew out more derision towards the Night Shard. Considering the officer before her, Luo Ying knew that if she contested his words ‘the Night Shard, his methods are savage,’ the officer would only heap a hundred times more censure on Ye Fan.

She didn’t want to hear it. She really didn’t want to hear it from this officer standing opposite her. So she ignored the topic and busied herself with her examination.

It never occurred to her that the mutant she studied, whose central nervous system was ruined, who’d completely lost consciousness, the one who couldn’t ever recover, could be someone she’d known very well.

Luo Ying attempted to keep the specimen alive. Yet it was too weak. Even after soaking in nutrient fluid at Luoshi Research, it died after three days.

When Ouyang Yi ran to the military to retrieve Qinglong, all he got was—the news of Qinglong’s death.

“That bitch! Anything for fame and fortune!” Ouyang Yi ferociously cursed Luo Ying in his heart, suddenly glad that she’d divorced him years ago. Rushing back to the hall, he told himself: “That divorce, the cost was worth it……I haven’t been missing out whatsoever, from the beginning I wasn’t wrong!”

Ouyang Yi hustled up the Federation President’s ear, whispering: “There’s no need for this discussion, Qinglong……is dead.”
