DPM Chapter 9-Long Voyage Part 2
Translated by Snowfall77

Because of the new, bilateral peace, the Night Shard had sent only one delegate to greet the bride-to-be. The representative flew a small winged ship, first hovering over the square, then following Mozun’s distinct order.

Colored gas shot out the tail-end of the craft, following the ship’s trajectory as the delegate maneuvered it to make a shape in the air. A red, smoky heart. Demonstrating Mozun’s welcome to his wife.

Music from the military band started booming, multitudes of ribbons fluttered in the air, while countless rose petals sprinkled down tenderly. Wu Xingyun marched in the front, one hundred and one people following after him, as they entered their own spaceship.

Next, the Demon Army ship led the way, as Federation ships trailed after, loaded down with the wedding party and the dowry. They ascended into the vast horizon, quickly fading into small dots, and then disappeared.

The Galactic Federation’s citizens on tens of thousands planets had watched the live broadcast. Wu Xingyun’s parents and his three brothers had gathered together, a thousand light-years away from the from the front-line, to see their Xingyun fly away.

When Wu Xingyun’s ship could be seen no more, his family held each other and cried bitterly.

While sailing into boundless starry skies, Wu Xingyun took his first step on the remote journey to his future husband.

Wu Xingyun’s spacecraft, the largest of the Federation group, could stow two hundred people, yet only a dozen were onboard. Just Wu Xingyun’s dowry squad and two female biologists.

Around this main ship were twenty other accompanying ships.

At the head of the convoy flew five guard ships, to watch for any adverse circumstances, readied to fight at any time.

Ouyang Liu, an afterthought, was on one of those guard ships. The interior was a little crowded, the other soldiers ignoring him, so Ouyang stood at a window and watched the scenery.

The nebula outside flowed unpredictably, showing streams of scarlet and indigo, traces of verdant green, lit by flashing stars. A dangerous universe drifted by, dream-like and exquisite.

Ouyang Liu thought of the strenuous effort it’d taken, convincing his father to let him be on the escort team, and felt a burst of humiliation. Ouyang Feng wasn’t one to be moved by fatherly affection, only if Feng benefitted could Feng be convinced.

Pledging to his father that he would gain Mozun’s support was how Ouyang Liu had secured his spot with the escort. Ouyang Liu had spun his father a pleasing tale of borrowing the Demon army, subverting the Federation, then Feng rebuilding it into a personal kingdom.

Only after Ouyang Liu had repeatedly chanted his assurances into his father’s ear, did Feng finally agree to let illegitimate Ouyang Liu go try.

Ouyang Liu eyed his face, reflected in the window, and fantasized about his father’s future success. Naturally and inevitably, Ouyang Liu would be a proper son of that new empire.

Nothing other than a marriage between such a son and Mozun could bring true peace. The lone worthy candidate for Mozun was Ouyang Liu.

As for low-class, unremarkable, non-commissioned sergeants, Ouyang Liu sneered to himself. He hadn’t forgotten the embarrassments the sergeant had heaped on, and vowed to retaliate. Back in the Federation, the military and the president might have backed Wu Xingyun, but in Mozun’s territory, it was Ouyang Liu who would have the support. He’d see Wu Xingyun dead.

The spaceships soon reached a transmission point, jumping five hundred light years away. One after the other, they entered, emerging uncomfortably to where the Demon army would be active and contactable.

The desolateness of previous space voyages dissolved, scattered away by the sight of several times more warships than at Deta-Nuo. The Federation ships, having already heard the nuptial news, lined up to see their compatriots off.

A particle cannon capable of emitting an immense light beam shot into the sky. Blue light shone straight ahead into the deep cosmos, then exploded at the apex, like fireworks blooming.

As the escort ships advanced, the dark universe seemed an feast of unfolding lights, until finally it was the Demon army flight floating before them.

The Demon army also had gathered a large number of ships, but they were worse equipped than Federation vessels. Through the long years of the war, the Demon army not only comprised of mutants, but ordinary people turned refugees, and prisoners from the Federation. The Demon army would absorb these people, but the numbers had been small. However, the amount was increasing a bit in recent years.

The Demon army mutants mostly wore ordinary protective suits, installed with a flight-enabling power system on the back.

To greet the Federation escort team was an ordinary Night army military unit, containing thousands, and one mutant.

The mutant used his suit to fly forward, suspending himself before the main window of Wu Xingyun’s particular ship.

Wu Xingyun, through the transparency, saw the mutant’s appearance clearly. Male and very beautiful.

Unlike Mozun’s languid perfection, this mutant had a lanky figure with a slender waist, muscles well-proportioned, yet an overall delicate and graceful mien.

His chin a little pointed, and a melancholy look affixed his face as his long silver hair and white robe floated around him, seemingly revealing his temperament.

The man bowed slightly to Wu Xingyun.

Wu Xingyun stood at attention and gave the mutant a military salute.

The man moved his lips and his voice immediately wafted out from the ship’s communicator.

A magnetic tone, like a lover’s whisper: “Acknowledging distinguished Wu Xingyun, welcome to our free and independent state. I am Liu Meng, and on behalf of the Alliance and our leader Mozun, I express our highest respects and warmest welcome to you.”

As Liu Meng said it, his eyes held barely hidden dejection. And despite Liu Meng’s immaculate courtesy, Wu Xingyun felt he’d been looked up and down. Liu Meng’s gaze stayed on Wu Xingyun’s face for a long time.

Although Wu Xingyun felt uncomfortable and thought the Demon army referring to themselves as a free, independent Alliance unsuitable, he been sufficiently trained to know ‘Demon Lord, ‘Night Shard,’ and ‘Demon Army’ were Federation names, and not how Mozun’s people called themselves. Wu Xingyun also knew Liu Meng was not a fighter in the Alliance army, but a manager of logistics, careful and meticulous. Mozun, by sending Liu Meng to receive them, showed some level of sincerity.

Wu Xingyun bowed, according to his training in Alliance etiquette, and said to Liu Meng: “Thank you for your hospitality. I am overwhelmed by your favor.” He’d learned those proper words earlier and was not too nervous to say them.

Liu Weng smiled at Wu Xingyun, then turned around and led the way past the lined-up Federation fleet as the escort ships kept pace behind.

Ouyang Liu, on his ship, had seen Liu Meng too. In fact, every ship had heard Liu Meng’s words. Liu Meng’s beauty was shocking to Ouyang Liu. He had known of Liu Meng, even seen pictures of him in some reports. But when Ouyang Liu had observed Liu Meng suspended in the sea of stars, pensive and elegant, like something out of an immortal fairytale, Ouyang Liu had felt shamedly inferior. Worry began to creep in. If there was such a lovely and refined person by Mozun’s side, could Ouyang Liu hope to win Mozun’s heart?

Thus the Federation fleet entered Alliance territory. After a transmission point jump, they were gradually reaching the source planet where Mozun resided.

Wu Xingyun leaned against a window, looking at a blue globe near a small star. It looked so close, but he was well aware it still stretched far away.

The outwardly empty, isolated planet, orbiting its lonely star, hung conspicuously.

It would still take them a month to reach it, then they could have a good rest.

So Wu Xingyun thought. But just as he went to sit in his chair, a sudden alarm reverberated throughout the ship.
