DPM Chapter 94-Home
Translated by Snowfall77

Wu Xingyun couldn’t hold back any longer. He threw himself at his mother, wrapping her in a hug: “Mom……it’s me, I’ve come back……”

Mother Wu’s eyes glistened with joyful tears as she clutched her son, too emotional to speak.

Sensing something was up, Father Wu had come to the door and grabbed his trusty metal rod upon spotting Mozun. But then he saw that his son who’d been lost for so many years had somehow miraculously returned. Dropping the steel bar to the floor, Father Wu’s voice was choked with sobs: “Little bastard, you……you’re really back!”

Stooping down, Mozun picked up Father Wu’s rod and put it back in its place, telling the reunited family: “Father, Mother, go back inside and talk. He’s not going anywhere for a while, take your time.”

Walking back into the house, the men sat down while Mother Wu poured Mozun a cup of water: “You……you really weren’t deceiving us. Thank you. Thank you for bringing Xingyun back home.”

Mozun hurriedly got back up: “Mother, don’t mention it. There’s no need for ‘thank you’ between family.”

Seated on the sofa, Wu Xingyun carefully inspected his surroundings, finding that the furniture and decor seemed the same as they’d always been. It was his parents who’d changed. When he’d last seen them, they’d been in their fifties, and now they were in their white-haired seventies.

He was also surprised to see some of his old comics, including his treasured copy of “The Destruction of the Great Night Shard,” neatly displayed on a book shelf. Looking at their tidy spines, Wu Xingyun’s eyes misted.

Of his own accord, Mozun went to cook dinner, leaving the other three to catch up on the past twenty years.

“Mom, where are my brothers?” Wu Xingyun asked.

Mother Wu heaved a sigh, casting a quick glance at her husband.

" "

Father Wu said: “Your eldest brother is enlisted in the Federation Army. Your second brother evacuated from here a long time ago. And your third bother still lives here. He works in the mines, but he’ll be coming for a visit tomorrow.”

“Oh.” Wu Xingyun couldn’t help being dismayed in his heart, learning that the fighting between the Alliance and the Federation had divided his family.

“This place has gone downhill the past ten years……” Father Wu opined, “It’s too bad, all the bigshots here have forgotten the Federation……Not only are we still enemy-occupied, some people are actually joining the Demon Army! No fucking filial piety!”

Mother Wu rushed to interrupt: “Don’t say such things! The Night Shard, your son-in-law, is cooking a meal for you right now. You feel so strongly about it, don’t eat your dinner. Just starve to death!”

After contenting himself a declaration that people’s hearts weren’t loyal like they used to be, Father Wu fell silent. Although deep down he was elated to see his youngest son again. No matter how irritable his words, he couldn’t hide the smile in his eyes.

“Xingyun,” Mother Wu changed the topic, “Where have you been all this time? When your father heard of your sacrifice, his health relapsed and he was in the hospital for half a year. If we hadn’t finally heard the Night Shard’s insistence that you were still alive, I don’t know how we would have made it now.” Both Father Wu and Mother Wu teared up again.

When they’d heard what’d happened to Wu Xingyun, his parents truly were lost in their grief for a long time. Eventually, Mozun had contacted Wu Xingyun’s third brother, telling him to inform his parents that Wu Xingyun wasn’t dead and would return someday.

So Father and Mother Wu had kept on living in the hopes of seeing Wu Xingyun again.

Wu Xingyun hardly knew where to start, but he did his best to tell his story clearly to the dear elders.

Starting with being captured by Mozun, Wen Nuo exploding the bomb, and next falling into the black hole, Wu Xingyun slowly spoke of things even he found almost unimaginable.

His parents wheezed in astonishment at his account of meeting Luo Ying for the first time.

Then it was on to worse things. Trapped and abandoned on Earth, the painful struggle for survival in the last days. Living in the past for ten years before being restored to his proper time by accident.

At some point when Wu Xingyun was talking, Mozun came to sit beside him, reaching out and holding his hand.

The food on the table had already grown cold, no one keeping track of the time. Wu Xingyun’s parents raptly listened to his entire story before witnessing his invisibility with their own eyes. After Wu Xingyun made himself visible again, Father and Mother Wu gave deep sighs. And Mozun was pleased to note that the traces of hostility in their gaze towards him were gone.

Mother Wu took Mozun’s other hand, her voice aged and tremulous: “Son-in-law, from now on we’ll place Wu Xingyun in your care. He’s been stupid since he was a child, but his heart is honest and sincere. You mustn’t bully him.”

Mozun gave a sharp nod: “Yes! I understand.”

Father Wu hardly knew what to say, finally muttering: “I’ve hated mutants all my life……and now I find out I fathered one……Oh well, I guess it’s fate. Xingyun, to see you, to see you come back alive, it’s good! Very good!”

“Live well from now on. Your parents are old, we can’t look after you any more……”

Father Wu closed his eyes.

Initially Wu Xingyun assumed his father was tired, going to another room to grab a blanket for him. It was when Wu Xingyun came back a moment later that he realized his father was dead.

Bursting into tears, Wu Xingyun fell on his father. Eventually Mother Wu had Mozun pull him back.

“Xingyun, your father hasn’t been well for a long time……” Mother Wu said, “Last time he went to the hospital for a cerebral hemorrhage , the doctor said he only had about five years left, and that was more than ten years ago. He was happy. He was happy to see you alive and well again. He could go in peace.”

The elderly woman wiped away her own tears as she consoled her son.

The next day Wu Xingyun’s third brother came back. Together, the two of them made the funeral arrangements and dealt with any necessary business. But before they could wrap everything up, Mother Wu fell gravely ill.

Seriously unwell, Mother Wu envied her husband who’d passed so gently. Why did she have to endure hardships?

Having missed twenty years, Wu Xingyun spent every day by his mother’s sickbed, taking care of her. No matter how busy, Mozun also made sure to visit Mother Wu once a day.

Ten days later, Mother Wu likewise passed on.

Confronted with Mozun’s intense questioning, the doctor trepidatiously explained: “Your elder was too old. A common cold could’ve been fatal to her. Besides which her health hasn’t been good for a long time. It was just that she was making herself go on. Her husband passed before her, her son had returned safe and sound. I think……she left at ease.”

Losing both his parents so quickly after being reunited with them left Wu Xingyun grieving and directionless. Despite Mozun’s companionship, Wu Xingyun felt something missing.

He hadn’t just lost two family members, he’d lost the ones dearest to him.

Although Wu Xingyun found he could now emphasize with Mozun’s feelings more.

The agony as people close to you died one by one, but you kept living on in unending pain and loneliness. How could you not be broken-hearted?

Wu Xingyun’s third brother rushed back to his job after the mourning was over. He’d eventually carried on their father’s profession of being an interstellar miner, and took his family off to work a distant planet rich with ore.

Leaving only Wu Xingyun and Mozun in an old apartment.

“Yun, I know your parents are gone……But don’t be too sad. I’ll always be at your side. Didn’t you say you wanted to visit Luoshi Research? Let’s go together.” Mozun offered.

Wu Xingyun shook his head: “It doesn’t matter, don’t mind what I said.”

Disinterestedly flipping through Wu Xingyun’s comics, Mozun found something tucked away behind he didn’t particularly appreciate.

It was a copy of ‘The Great Night Shard and His One Hundred and Eight Lovers,’ the publication date of the book unclear.

Eyebrows raised, Mozun inspected the publication closely: “ Tell me this then, when you were young, did you spend the whole day with this lovely thing?”

His attention successfully diverted, Wu Xingyun spent the next few days devoting all his efforts to explaining that the book was never really his, but accidently left behind by an old playmate.

Yet no matter how much Wu Xingyun tried to clarify, it was useless. Mozun conscientiously explored position after position with Wu Xingyun. There were a hundred and eight of them after all.

By the time Wu Xingyun felt he was about to perish and was desperately begging for mercy, the shadow of his parents’ death had abated. He started to feel—if only Mozun would cease his harassment, there would be clear skies!

The day they decided to leave, Wu Xingyun and Mozun stood looking around the place. Even though it’d probably be a long time before anyone lived there again, Wu Xingyun wanted to keep the apartment where his parents had lived as it was.

Then Wu Xingyun’s phone buzzed.

Fishing it out of his pocket to check, Wu Xingyun couldn’t help finding it a bit strange. It was a new phone, and hardly anyone had the number. Who would be trying to contact him?

He opened the new message and read: “I’m downstairs. Can you come down alone? I have something to discuss with you.”

Signed off by: “Wen Nuo.”

In shock, Wu Xingyun stared blankly at his phone.

A little over ten years ago, Wu Xingyun had been in this same place and received almost the same message.

At the time he’d obeyed, gone downstairs alone, and had his life completely turned upside down.

But that had been then. Did Wu Xingyun want to go alone this time?

Wu Xingyun turned to look at his lover, and Mozun inquired: “What’s going on? Is there something else you need to do?”

Taking Mozun’s hand in his own, Wu Xingyun nodded: “Let’s go downstairs together. Wen Nuo is here. He says there’s something he wants to talk about with me.”

Mozun’s mouth curled up in a somewhat mocking smile.

“Smiling?” Wu Xingyun asked. “Why are you smiling?!”

Bending down, Mozun kissed Wu Xingyun’s lips: “Smiling because you’re not leaving me here alone.”

Wu Xingyun didn’t mind, cooperating with the other. But in the end, given an inch and wanting a mile, Mozun’s kiss turned to a deep kiss. The deep kiss turned into an embrace. And the embrace turned into being picked up and carried to the bedroom.

Worried, Wu Xingyun exclaimed: “Are you never done?!”

Mozun laughed and shook his head: “One round. It won’t take too long. Last time he made me wait three days for you. This time……it doesn’t matter if he waits two or three hours.”

With a sudden leap out of Mozun’s arms, Wu Xingyun turned invisible. Bang. The front door opened and shut by an unseen hand. Wu Xingyun had made his speedy escape.

" "

Licking his lips in regret, Mozun followed the soldier out the door and caught up with him by the elevator.

Mozun held Wu Xingyun’s hand firmly, his tone reproachful and forlorn: “As soon as your old sweetheart wants to meet, you run so fast……It’s truly a different treatment……”
