Chapter 95-Saer Reappeared Part 2
Translated by Snowfall77

Mozun unhappily watched Wu Xingyun follow Wen Nuo out of the room. Depressed, he particularly regretted trying to shake Wen Nuo’s hand in friendship!

Delighting in the misfortune of others, Liu Meng chuckled: “I hope they get along well together. Maybe Wu Xingyun will toss you aside!”

That only worsened Mozun’s mood. Not that Liu Meng cared, as he kept on going: “You might get a taste of how I felt!”

“Fuck off!” Mozun lost his temper and the crowd of mutants left, silent but smirking. Not needing to be told, they set about their own tasks.

In the corridor outside, Wen Nuo lit a cigarette. Blowing smoke rings, he didn’t know how to start, so he just kept inhaling and exhaling.

“General, you should stop smoking,” Wu Xingyun told him, “It’s not good for your health.”

“Mmm.” Wen Nuo put out his cigarette. Finally he asked: “Is he……is he good to you?”

Wu Xingyun softly smiled, exposing his white teeth: “He’s very good.”

“Oh, that’s……that’s nice.”

Finished with that matter, Wen Nuo was at a loss again.

Wu Xingyun took the conversational initiative: “General, are you married? I’d like to meet your wife one day.”

Wen Nuo threw a quick look at Wu Xingyun and shook his head: “No……I……I’ve stayed single.”

Whereupon Wu Xingyun realized he wasn’t that great at casual conversation, having inadvertently touched a sore spot.

Sick of the oppressive atmosphere around them, Wen Nuo choose what he considered a less serious topic: “How are your parents? I asked Marshal Shi Fei to take care of them, but then this planet fell to the Demon Army, and the elders didn’t have time to evacuate.”

“My parents are deceased,” Wu Xingyun said, “My mother passed only about a week ago……Right, how is Marshal Shi Fei? I’ve been catching up on the news, but I haven’t seen him.”

“Dead.”

They fell quiet again. Wen Nuo puffed on another cigarette, Wu Xingyun peaceably keeping him company.

It took a long while before Wen Nuo spoke again: “I came to see you this time……to ask you a favor. I think……if you talk to the Night Shard about the extraterrestrial life invasion, he’ll probably listen to you.”

“It’s true? I thought……” Wu Xingyun was a little taken aback.

“What? You think I’m making it up for kicks?”

Wu Xingyun hurriedly explained: “No……that’s not it. I just……never mind, I was wrong. Let’s please drop it.” The lies and sins of the Federation from the last days were still fresh wounds to Wu Xingyun. Therefore he’d had no trust in Wen Nuo’s words. But now, seeing Wen Nuo’s irate expression, Wu Xingyun figured he’d better not say another damned word.

Sighing, Wen Nuo turned his head to peer at Wu Xingyun: “You’re still the same as before. Stupid and foolish! Be careful you don’t get deceived by the Night Shard.”

Wu Xingyun gave a beaming smile in response: “He won’t lie to me.”

Those words only made Wen Nuo gloomier. He’d thought of many things to say to Wu Xingyun when the Federal government had told him to go sound out Mozun. Now he found them unnecessary to speak.

Throwing his cigarette in the trash, Wen Nuo turned and walked away, not looking back once.

Wu Xingyun watched Wen Nuo’s receding back, a little dazed. Was the Federation really that close to being done for? Or……were they simply trying negotiate peace again?

Whatever was going on, Wu Xingyun didn’t like it.

Standing there lost in thought, Wu Xingyun’s ear was tickled by someone’s breath: “What are you thinking about?”

Wu Xingyun didn’t need to move to know it was Mozun, so he answered honestly: “I’m wondering if what he said was true. If there really is some scary alien invasion happening.” Then Wu Xingyun turned to face Mozun: “What will you do?”

Mozun lightly laughed: “If the Federation is willing to negotiate peace, I’d consider it a victory unstained with blood, besides sparing me some effort. Only I don’t think they’ll agree to my terms, so nevermind that. Let’s talk about how long you took with him!”

“So what?” Wu Xingyun asked rhetorically, “Can’t I do that?”

“Hmm, but I’m jealous.” Mozun’s hands started rubbing Wu Xingyun’s body. “Kiss me, soothe my wounded heart.”

Wu Xingyun kissed.

“One more!”

Wu Xingyun kissed again.

“Not enough!”

The kissing continued……

Ten days later the Federation and the Alliance had their official meeting via video call. The Federation took the initiative to propose peace talks, to which Mozun offered no opposition.

And when the Federation President Aili pointed out how the ‘emblem of peace’ Wu Xingyun had returned, alive and well, Mozun even showed a sappy expression.

President Aili, quite keen on taking advantage of Mozun’s sentiments, made her requirements known—both sides would resolve their prejudices, there would a complete cease-fire, and together they would handle the extraterrestrial life invasion.

Mozun smiled faintly and tossed out his conditions.

Speaking at will, he stated: “I have confidence in my power to utterly destroy the Federation in the near future. But……Alliance citizens are human beings too. Thousands of years ago we lived together on Earth. Now we’re in crisis where we should unite against a common enemy. Therefore I can agree to a cease-fire, under three simple conditions. First, severe punishment for the culprits who committed war crimes against the Demon Army. Second, the Federation military is put under my command. Third, the establishment of a new Federation government with a candidate approved by me.”

Pausing for a moment, the corners of Mozun’s mouth curled up: “After all, the true purpose of this meeting isn’t a truce, but the conjoined fight against an outside threat. I have to trust in the reliability of my allies, don’t I? And……when it comes to this ally, I’m running short on trust.”

The polite expressions plastered on the Federation officials’ faces promptly disappeared. When they’d first been told that the Night Shard agreed to peace negotiations, they’d supposed he’d ask for more of what he’d wanted during the previous peace talks. He probably demand more technology or scientists and what not. Who expected him to want to set up a puppet government?!

President Aili’s diplomatic smile morphed into a dark glare. Heavily snorting, she cut the call. The negotiations had broken down.

“Outrageous! Who does that bastard think he is? Punish war criminals? What, does he want us to dig up the bodies of our war heroes and flog the bodies?!”

“Damn it! So what if the Demon Army is currently stronger than ours? He thinks he can destroy us overnight? How can he be so overly arrogant?”

“But……if the Night Shard doesn’t help us, how will we face our colonists on the borders?”
Silence fell.

Over on his side, Mozun flipped through the latest Federal intel, focused on the new encroachment into the Milky Way.

“It appeared as a heavy white fog?” Deeply thoughtful, Mozun’s fingers tapped the table.

Sitting beside him, Wu Xingyun was also reading and answered: “Yes. And apparently this unknown species can emit electromagnetic interference too. Isn’t……isn’t this awfully similar to back then?”

“There’ll be signs of mutation in local species of the invaded planet. The composition of the atmosphere will change……?” Mozun didn’t like what he was hearing.

It was similar, far too similar to what had happened to Earth thousands of years in the past.

Coincidence? Or premeditation?

“Look, the name the Federation gave this new species is—Saer!? The same name Luo Guo gave the fog on Earth?” Wu Xingyun cocked his head, staring at the name. The text was naturally different, but the pronunciation was exactly the same.

Wu Xingyun and Mozun looked at each other, speaking with one voice: “Saer……thick Saer fog?”

Mozun abruptly stood up, pulling Wu Xingyun up along with him, already fixed on his next step: “Let’s move……we’re going to go to the Federal archives. We’ll search for anything the scientists back then had on the Saer fog……”
