DPM Chapter 96-Story of the Saer Fog
Translated by Snowfall77

The Federal archives had been established on the Federation’s central planet during its heyday. However in the past few years Mozun had greatly grown the Alliance’s territory, taking many planets. He’d changed his tactics, and as a result the Federation suffered defeat after defeat.

There was no equal division of the Milky Way. The Federation had become like a frightened turtle drawing in its head and legs.

Mozun having declared his plan in advance, the Demon Army circumvented the heavily fortified defenses, got boots on the ground, and occupied the desired planet.

The speed of the Alliance’s operation was formidable. Left with barely any time to evacuate, the Federation were obliged to abandon what they already considered worthless records.

When Wu Xingyun and Mozun set foot on the planet, Peng Dawei was already in charge, integrating the ordinary citizens taken captive, cleaning up the streets, and reorganizing the planet’s local government and military.

Peng Dawei was delighted to see Wu Xingyun and Mozun. After Noah’s Ark had left in the last days, Peng Dawei had followed Dai Rong. Although he’d been comrades with Wu Xingyun and Mozun on the desert base before the Federation absconded, their relationship had drifted apart due to circumstances. Now, upon Wu Xingyun’s arrival, Peng Dawei went up to him: “Brother Xingyun, I’ve already arranged a place for you to stay. Would you like to rest first or……”

Mozun was the one who answered: “We won’t inconvenience you. You’re busy right now, all we want is to examine the archives.”

Peng Dawei had the Federal archives vacated, leaving just one elderly administer to assist Mozun and Wu Xingyun.

After telling the administer what they were looking for, he led them to the database of the appropriate year. Some of it was recorded media with visual and audio, some of it paper. Dust covering everything, apparently no one had disturbed this particular section in a very long time.

Voice tinged with regret, the administrator said: “This part of the archive isn’t the most complete……I’m sorry to say that Luoshi Research took away a significant amount of materials. This is just a portion of what used to be here. If you need anything else, please let me know.”

Mozun nodded and the administrator made his exit. Wu Xingyun and Mozun had the entire place to themselves.

The two men split their search, quickly finding what they were looking for.

Wu Xingyun read through a report on the cause of the thick Saer fog. As Luo Guo had written, the Saer substance had been discovered in space, brought down to Earth, and leaked, causing the initial mutations. A little after that, it’d also descended into the Earth’s atmosphere on its own. Then humanity had used nuclear weapons, only increasing the mutations exponentially.

When the Federation made camp on the moon, its scientists observed the continued descension and eventual dissipation of the fog with their own eyes.

They’d even collected sample of the Saer fog again, never minding the mistakes of the past.

While Mozun had been at war with the Wang brothers, clueless of the happenings above them.

The Federation scientists got busy analyzing the Saer substance all over again. This substance that could alter the natural environment of a planet, transform the composition of the atmosphere, and the radiation emittance of objects—where was it from?

A few wanted to believe that it was just a newly evolved phenomenon of the Milky Way itself. Others speculated that the arrival of the Saer fog on Earth was interference from some extraterrestrial lifeform.

But time moved on. The thick Saer fog eventually disappeared. The moon was destroyed. The Federation fled further away from Earth. And the mutants continued practicing their cultivation.

Humanity went on colonizing the galaxy, occasionally encountering alien life, although not any possessing what qualified as higher intelligence.

The thick Saer fog that had befallen the planet Earth, yet never reoccurred again, bit by bit become a disregarded mystery.

Federation research and development was taken over with how to deal with the Night Shard and the Demon Army.

While Mozun’s focus was on the main goal of defeating the Federation.

No one had any interest to give to old events. Weren’t mutants just humans from Earth who’d genetically mutated overnight?

Even if Federal scientists did want to study mutant genes, after the death of Luo Ying, it became impossible. Mozun saw to it that the Federation never got another corpse of a mutant.

Now Mozun sat, looking over old collected data on the Saer fog, knowing that the Federation were also calling the currently invading species Saer—how could it be coincidence?

Without a doubt there was a connection. He’d heard the Federation’s description of the Saer, but he needed to see it or them for himself.

Still, before going to the Federation border……

Mozun eyed Wu Xingyun who was sitting on the floor, deeply engrossed in whatever he was reading. Sunshine fell from the windows, bathing Wu Xingyun in beams of light.

Motes of dust danced in the air. The empty archives, no else there except for the two of them, possessed an exceptionally tranquil silence.

The man with the short hair, concentrating with such an earnest expression, made Mozun infatuated beyond all reason.

Although Mozun had done the soldier repeatedly, enjoying himself to the fullest every time, Mozun couldn’t stop himself from getting hard.

In this peaceful place filled with books, he wanted to enjoy holding his lover in the afternoon sun.

Moreover, there in the middle was a large sturdy wooden desk.

Bending slightly down, Mozun prepared for action.

Innocently seated on the floor, Wu Xingyun had a nagging feeling. In all the recent flurry of activity, he’d kept thinking there was something he should remember. But he couldn’t put his finger on it.

Not until Mozun kissed him, pressing him down onto the thick files, did it abruptly come to Wu Xingyun.

Wu Xingyun reached out to gently push Mozun off, but Mozun was too busy using his teeth to unbutton Wu Xingyun’s shirt. The soldier’s familiar skin was exposed to Mozun. Love bites from previous times were still showing, which Mozun found highly pleasing.

Mozun starting adroitly kissing the old marks only to be interrupted by Wu Xingyun partway.

“Do you remember the secret book you got from Wang Ruoxu?” Wu Xingyun asked, making Mozun stare blankly at him.

“The star chart?! The star chart that was on front of it was a map of the Andromeda galaxy,” Wu Xingyun reminded Mozun. “I found it strange at the time, so……do you still have that book?”

“No,” said Mozun, “It’s been too many years, it’s impossible to keep everything. I’ve had nuclear bombs launched at me a few too many times……”

A little disappointed, Wu Xingyun enjoined: “How about……can you recollect what was written in it?”

Temporarily setting aside the needs of his lower half, Mozun tried to think with his brain: “I remember a little……”

He recited: “You don’t exist yet, but thousands of years from now, Saman will come and the world will die. I cannot bear to see the extinction of this species. Therefore, with the strength of my poor life, I will practice. And I hope that future generations will know. The sin of treason, the crime is great. My thoughts have moved, Saman will know. I sigh with sorrow, is it right or wrong? Who would have thought it of me……”

Back then, both Mozun and Wu Xingyun had thought that “thousands of years from now, Saman will come and the world will die” was referring to the Earth’s last days, yet……perhaps they’d incorrectly inferred.

And they’d never been able to figure out what “the sin of treason, the crime is great, my thoughts have moved, Saman will know,” actually meant. They’d speculated that the writer actually meant ‘Shaman,’ and was sacred of some ancient version of a deity.

Now the words seemed a little clearer.

Thoughtfully discussing, Mozun and Wu Xingyun came to a joint conjecture—Since the cover of the book was a star map of the Andromeda Galaxy, that meant the owner of the book didn’t come from the Milky Way.

An alien come to Earth years before, and with some kind of mission?

The mission could have spanned thousands of years. Perhaps to pave the way for a new species? Therefore, the owner of the book would’ve written with confidence: “Saman will come and the world will die.”

Wu Xingyun guessed that the book owner, despite knowing humanity would be exterminated by its people, must have developed pity or compassion during its time with humans. Not wanting the extinction of humankind, the book owner had put its life experience into written form, hoping that someone would be able to follow the practices and escape the fate of annihilation.

As for where the book owner went, Mozun was fairly certain they were dead.

The book owner had betrayed their species, and had clearly stated that ‘Saman’ would know about it—punishment would inevitably be meted out.

Although Mozun remembered the book owner’s words had been oddly written, some parts hard to decipher.

They personally didn’t know where the book had come from, let alone how Wang Ruoxu had gotten his hands on it. All that was certain was that the cultivation practices from the book had enabled Mozun to grow into the formidable, powerful demon that he was.

And if their new guesses were correct, the book owner had come from the Andromeda Galaxy, and its species either had something analogous to shamans or an entity named Saman.

Therefore, the new species invading along the Federation border from Andromeda would likely have this Saman……

Acting on a plan already put in place thousands of years ago.

No coincidence. Pure premeditation.

Mozun’s amorous mood faded away. They straightened their clothes, minds preoccupied with one thought—going to the border of the Milky Way and meeting this legendary Saman……
