DPM Chapter 98-Collision Part 1
Translated by Snowfall77

Without thinking Mozun employed his energy, covering Wu Xingyun and himself in his singular golden shield. The next moment the shining white figure raised a hand and blinding light instantaneously erupted. Accompanied by a bluish-purple lightening, the dark universe was lit with dazzling rays.

Mozun’s gold shield was exposed, the faint light of it isolated amongst the white glare, like a ball riding the roaring waves of an ocean.

“What’s that?!” The hitherto utterly calm Wen Nuo found his hands shaking as the white light rolled towards the Federation ships. The second the white light hit them, their electronic equipment failed. Wen Nuo couldn’t even command the Federal troops, he could only helplessly watch what was occurring before him.

“It seems to be an electromagnetic storm, sir!” A technology official tried to analyze through his fear. “A person! A living being capable of making such an electromagnetic storm! This……has a more powerful, dreadful mutant arisen?”

The Federal ships hovered in place, their systems not working. They manually tried to start their engines. But meanwhile, thanks to the electromagnetic storm, the hulls were left weak and easily finished. The Federal ship’s frames fracturing like glass, blood-curdling screams echoed as commanders futilely cursed.

“Go to the escape pods!” Unable to communicate with their superiors, soldiers knew that disaster had struck, that they had encountered a force they were incapable of dealing with. Yet as soon they ejected themselves from their motionless ships, they discovered that more gold mecha had appeared. The mecha slaughtered those trying to escape with ruthless speed.

In the soundlessness of space, no noise intruded, the scene unfolding before the eyes like a silent movie.

Some kept flailing trying to restart their electronics, others turned their heads, staring in shock.

For they were watching the unimaginable.

From within a golden transparent sphere, a man’s figure gradually solidified. He was wearing a long black overcoat, elongating his slender form. And his long black hair fluttered as he slightly raised his hands.

His perfect face showed a grave expression, his long and narrow eyes profoundly deep.

""

The gold glow surrounded him, clearly illuminating him in every direction.

The old nightmare of each Federation soldier—the Night Shard.

What Federal soldier had lived to tell tales of how he battled? In over two thousand years, hadn’t they all gone to their graves?

But Federation soldiers didn’t need to have witnessed the Night Shard in action. They recognized this terrible demon immediately.

The mechas who were chasing escape pods also turned, diving for Mozun in a flash.

Mozun slightly spread his hands, his eyes wide and fierce. The approaching mecha were brought down by his power, broken into fragments.

The white figure in the distance finally registered Mozun’s presence. It lifted its hands high above its head and let loose another electromagnetic assault.

In the same moment Mozun used exactly the same motions, brilliant rays of red going out through his golden barrier towards the white figure.

Two opposing forces blazed radiant in the darkness. What had originally manifested as orbs now became beams of light, colliding like two dragons tearing at each other with tooth and claw.

Any Federal ship unlucky enough to be between them was instantly scattered apart like dust. And the rays of light the two emitted did not dwindle, but increased more and more, as if to illuminate the entire cosmos.

Blinded as if by an exploding star, every onlooker was shaken to their core.

The purplish-red nebula silently whirled in the background while the black-clad man with flowing black hair smiled from within his golden shield, like a god arisen from hell to play with the living.

To the soldiers still alive in their escape pods, watching the scene from afar, it was clear. The unexpectedly appearing Night Shard had saved them.

Before the Federal soldiers would have been wary and not necessarily grateful.

Now, watching the Night Shard battle the Saer being, the Federal soldiers’ vigilance and malice melted away.

They didn’t possess the strength or technology to battle their new foe. The terrifying light that lit up space was not a power they could contend with. Yet the Night Shard could.

Some unconsciously shed tears, not even knowing why. Possibly what was unfolding before them was too strangely sublime. Or maybe they were too small against the grandness.

“We can’t fight that,” a soldier whispered in shock. “We’re only human……

Those Federal soldiers that witnessed the alien encounter with their own eyes became believers in the Night Shard. When they returned home, they took their families into the depths of Alliance territory, seeking asylum. Because they firmly trusted that they were safer there.

Wen Nuo also escaped the battle. Although when he’d seen Mozun appear at that time, Wen Nuo had felt far from reassured.

From Wen Nuo’s viewpoint, Mozun had first refused the Federation’s offer of peace. And then, turning up out of nowhere, Mozun was at the border with the same capabilities as the alien……What did it mean? Was the Demon Army joining forces with the aliens in order to utterly wipe out the human race?

Wen Nuo pursed his lips, replaying in his mind what he’d observed. Previously he’d read descriptions of Mozun’s fighting powers from Federal files, but the shock of witnessing it in person was another thing entirely.

So that was the strength of the mutant……

Was it really like some fusty biologist had claimed long ago? The way of natural selection was survival of the fittest? If that was truly the case, wouldn’t humanity one day be weeded out?

Bowing his head, a tremendous sense of powerlessness washed over Wen Nuo. Still, he had made it back in one piece. Walking up the steps of the Federation Government Administration hall, Wen Nuo once again rekindled his will to fight.

Electromagnetic storm

In gamma-ray astronomy, gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are immensely energetic explosions that have been observed in distant galaxies. They are the brightest and most energetic electromagnetic events known to occur in the universe.[1] Bursts can last from ten milliseconds to several hours

A magnetic storm is a period of rapid magnetic field variation. It can last from hours to days.

Magnetic storms have two basic causes:

The Sun sometimes emits a strong surge of solar wind called a coronal mass ejection. This gust of solar wind disturbs the outer part of the Earth’s magnetic field, which undergoes a complex oscillation. This generates associated electric currents in the near-Earth space environment, which in turn generates additional magnetic-field variations — all of which constitute a “magnetic storm.”
Occasionally, the Sun’s magnetic field directly links with that of the Earth. This direct magnetic connection is not the normal state of affairs, but when it occurs, charged particles, traveling along magnetic-field lines, can easily enter the magnetosphere, generate currents, and cause the magnetic field to undergo time-dependent variation.
Sometimes the Sun emits a coronal mass ejection at a time when the magnetic-field lines of the Earth and Sun are directly connected. When these events occur, we can experience a truly large magnetic storm.

What are the hazards of magnetic storms?
Our technology-based infrastructure can be adversely affected by rapid magnetic-field variations. This is especially true during “magnetic storms.”

Because the ionosphere is heated and distorted during storms, long-range radio communication that relies on sub-ionospheric reflection can be difficult or impossible and global-positioning system (GPS) communications can be degraded.
Ionospheric expansion can increase satellite drag and make their orbits difficult to control.
During magnetic storms, satellite electronics can be damaged through the buildup and discharge of static-electric charges. Astronauts and high-altitude pilots can be subjected to increased levels of radiation.
Even though rapid magnetic-field variations are generated by currents in space, very real effects can result down here on the Earth’s surface. That includes voltage surges in power grids that cause blackouts.
